I went and saw the Sydney FC v LA Galaxy last night, and I have to say the hype about Beckham is worth it.

Yes he's overpaid, on the downside of his career, has a joke of a wife etc. but when you are at the ground and see him score a goal like he did last night you have to acknowledge how great he is.

Clint Bolton is probably one of the top 3 of goalies in the A-League (not world-class but he's no hack) and I'm sure he and everyone else knew the kick was going to curl towards the top corner of the net, yet he didn't get a glove on it.

It was without the doubt the highlight of the night.

The atmosphere was electric every time he had a set-piece (corner, free-kick etc) and his ability to put others through gaps in-stride with both short and long balls was amazing to watch.

I was impressed with the way he conducted himself - unlike some in sport in my view he is a great role model.

I went with my son and he was in awe - now more than ever he wants to be a professional soccer player.

Check the replays Matt, the ball slapped through the goaly's hand. Awesome strike. I always thought of him as a knob, but he seems like a very genuine good bloke, very humble and appreciative.

Haven't seen a slow-mo yet. All I saw was at the ground. The point was even though Bolton knew where the ball was going he couldn't stop it.

Inch perfect wasnt it. How loud was it when it hit the net?

I think this has changed a lot of peoples perspective of him because I used to think the same

Yes, like Schumacher, Warne, and Lockyer - its certainly worth the admiration to see someone who is at the top of their chosen sport. Kudo's to you, Becks, you are a legend !!!

Just shows that even a team with a man of his calibre and monetary funds, cannot beat a lonely little football team from Sydney ! His salary can pay for ALL a-league players.... and they still got hammered ! 5-3 !

But, even better was the biff that was ensuing in the 85th minute ! Aussies dont take lightly to nancy-pancies players. If they wanna bring back the biff in this sport - thatll get me going back :D ... but what a typical lowlife the Galaxy player was throwing his head into the knee then treading on his arm with studs !!!
I wouldve socked him one ! ! ! ! !

Interesting to see how Ruud Gullit would take them to new highs since taking over as coach though...

It was an exhibition match on paper, but the game was nothing but! Although I have never liked Beckham, he is a superstar. Only in Sydney were they able to pull that match because it was the US glamour club Vs the AUS glamour club, Beckham Vs Junino and it lived up to its billing.

Having never really fully watched a game with Becks playing in it i was can only say that i am kicking myself for not having done so before last night.

The way he has carried himself whilst being in OZ for this short trip i can only hope that we ave an event like this again featuring Beck's and which ever team he plays for. Given he was only contracted to play 55 miins and the trouble he seemed in for the last 10-15 of the game i tip my hat as he could have gone off at any time.

He had to be good to be so well known in the sport & for the money he gets to play it!
I've seen a few of his games on the box over the years, yes the boy has talent & yes he has haters!

He's done well for a player with only one trick in his locker. Can only cross a ball can't tackle can't beat a man can't run and can't head a ball either.
