Was just given the Johnson '80 Bathurst XD in 1/43 as a gift from Wifey. Don't get me wrong, I love it & finally have a DJ XD in my collection, but for a new casting, it's a puzzling model. Leaving aside the steering wheel that points at the roof, it's more the underbody the surprises me. Unlike all my other Biante models, it's not highly detailed plastic, but diecast with bits (eg:rear suspension) added. The motor doesn't show at all (again, unlike other Biante examples) & the front wheels don't steer.
Compare this against my only other BRL model (so far) - the #1 Brock/Chivas LJ Torana - & it's chalk & cheese. I hesitate to say it, but the XD looks more Trax than Trax. Indeed, held against my Trax VB Bathurst Commodore, the underbody of the Commode is more & BETTER detailed, for less money.
Like I said, don't get me wrong, I'm not miffed or upset, more bemused & puzzled. Especially when you then throw the Trax "Opals" into the equation or CC's latest 1/43's like the Moffat Ph.3, complete with opening bonnet & engine detail. Time for the game to be lifted, perhaps?

its strange that Biante would release about 6 Ford XDs in about a month and most are DJRs.

Esses, I agree that the XD model is a major step backwards compared to all of the other Legends releases. All the other ones are better detailed and have steering. I will still get them, just not as impressed.

That I understand. Anything with "Brock", "Johnson", "Moffat", "Lowndes", "Skaife" etc on it will sell, sell, sell.................;)
