Right..we now have clearance for Possums car (and Cody's too if you want) from iXO. May do a set! Must both be from the same rally.
Select your rally and indicate the extent of your pictures. Keep in mind we need EVERY decal...clear and concise.
Dont send them by email..please.
Email Richard with any info you have..PLEASE do NOT email pictures. There is so much coming thru now, it will clog the system.
SUGGESTION.
Maybe one of you volunteers to collect all the pics..prints them out and then forwards them to us.
We would do it, but you have no idea of how much stuff we have in the system to clear already. This way we will get it quicker
Lets see if we can do a collective model!!

Make sure it's a 1/43 box set HRT gift pack styling.
Have both Poosums and Codys with STI headlights and Herridges with normal WRX headlights.
Just can't think on which 2002 rally to base them off.

How cool is this! I cant wait to get my dirty little mitts on them.
As for which rally to do.....
Rally of Canberra, as its an Asia Pacific round or
Rally of Perth cause its a WRC round.
This would also make them more popular over seas.
There must be heaps of pics out there to get the decals right, and don't forget there right hand drive.
I would love to help, I have a few photos of this years Canberra rally I could send to Biante, I'm sure we could all find pics somewere to send in.
I hope every body gets behind this!

This is really good news...

I would like to see either Rally Australia or Rally NZ, as both are full rounds of the WRC, and would probably have the most appeal world-wide.

Here's my suggestion, from a Kiwi point of view...

How about Rally NZ 2001...

Both Possum and Cody competed. Possum finished 13th overall, mixing it with the WRC cars. I think it was Cody's first Rally NZ, but unfortunately he didn't have a good rally, rolling big-time on the final stage on leg 2.

I guess we are probably looking at a 1/43 set, but a Possum car in 1/18 would be even better!

Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of these particular cars, but being a round of WRC, there should be some around. I guess getting full photos will be the hard bit.

Maybe base them of a ARC rally were cody and possum got a 1-2 with a top 10 result from herridge.
Or a Canberra rally set might be sensible because it was sponsered by Subaru but Tasmania Safari rally ones would be good as well because that rally was also sponsered by Subaru and the team did well.

Personally,
I'd love the Rally of Melbourne cars because it was the final round of the championship & some of the years it was the round that decided the years champion - hense it's siginificance !!!
A two pack of the WRC car & Cody's group N car would be great for the years where this was the case, other wise a 3 pack of the 3 Subaru Team Australia 2002 Group N cars of Possum, Cody & Dean, would be my pick as it would be the best to compliment my picture that I have purchased from Subaru of the 3 above mentioned cars.
cheers.
ps,
if your looking for picks of the cars, try the rally section of Subaru Australia's web site.

I'd go for Rally Oz myself, not only is it part of the ARC and a WRC event, it allows our drivers to go up against the top drivers in the world. as has been mentioned it would probably sell overseas. Plus, IXO would have rally oz decals!!!! the cars would also fit in with ppl who collect rally oz cars, if there are any lol!
Well that's my 2 cents worth

I'm being parochial here, but I honestly believe that Subaru Safari Rally Tasmania is the rally to model. The event was sponsored by Subaru, and the team finished 1-2. So it is doubly important.

But I think the fact that we are getting the ARC Subaru's modelled is fantastic - I just hope that they sell well enough to warrant future releases, and that Biante doesn't get burnt just for showing their faith in their collectors' wishes on this issue.

PS. Admin or Richard, is there any chance that Possums' cars will extend into modelling his WRCars? And his Group A four doors? A Championship series of 1:43 cars for Possum is a fitting tribute to his dominance and success....

How about a Possum twin-set comprising Rally Australia and Rally NZ cars from the same year. These would have appeal in both countries, and may also be attractive to collectors world-wide.

iXO did decals for both rallys last year, including the Richard Burns Rally NZ Impreza winner. I guess they will do the same this year.

Also, regarding decals. On the diecast.co.nz website, there are Studio 27 decal sets for Possums 1999 and 2000 Rally NZ cars (DC 315, DC374). If one of these cars were done, Biante wouldn't need to do as much research!.

Just wanted to get this back on the first page of the forum cause I really want these models to be made.
I still think it should be Rally of Canberra or Perth, No offence KiwiRallyFan but I would prefer an Aussie set than a NZ set, but I can understand why you would like the NZ set.

Andrew

Agreed Lachlan. Possum was the Australian Rally Champion so it should be an Australian car, despite the fact he is a kiwi.
But hold onto that Rally New Zealand thought, because if this car goes off, there may be scope for other Possum releases in the future...
Here's hoping.

everyone has stated which rally they want but we need good (sorry, GREAT) pictures of the cars from all angles and some interior shots as well. Use all of your resources that are available (photos, internet etc), and hopefuly someone can volunteer to gather them together, print them out, and forward them on to us.

Let's get the ball rolling.

Lachlan and Andrew, point taken.

One comment though...I think Rally Australia would have a wider appeal than one of the ARC rallies. Possum may be 7 times Australian Rally Champ, but he also has a large following in NZ and parts of Asia. If Biante are trying out the rally market, I think a WRC rally car would sell more than an ARC car (probably both inside and outside Australia).

Richard, I am in the process of compiling as much information as possible, but the photos are going to be harder for me to get. If only I'd known this was going to be the case (ie. that we would have some input into the creation of a new model), then I would have taken dozens of photos of the type you require.
I just hope that something comes of all this.

By the way, the first post says to email you. Do you have a direct email address, or just address our email to the general contact details on the site?

Have any of you guys heard that Possum has placed an entry into Group N for the WRC ???
I saw this in todays AA.
There was talk that the entry was subject to finding some more sponsorship to help with the entry.

Richard - take a look at the Subaru web page for some pics of Possum's car.

cheers.

To be honest KiwiRallyFan, I too would prefer one of Possum's WRCars rather than this year's Group N car, but I'll take whatever I can at the moment.

One of Possum's Asia-Pacific cars, or his Havoline sponsored Rally New Zealand 2000 (or was it 2001?) car would be especially nice as it would be unique. But at the same time, I would love to see the Impreza WRC '99 and WRC 2000 that he campaigned in the Australian Championship. Then there is his old 4dr Group A's...

We all seem to have a half dozen notable cars we are desperate to see, which makes it all the more criminal that it has taken so long for Possum's cars to be modelled.

But thank goodness it's now happening.

brchi17 - this news was out last week on the www.wrc.com website. Possum would be a good bet to beat the reigning champion Kuramjit Singh, as well as the gaggle of superfast South American and European Group N drivers. He has the talent - although Sweden will be a challenge for him - and hopefully he will get the backing.

For more info on Possum taking on the world in Group N, see the following website...

http://www.rally.com.au

There are also lots of photos of Possums cars on this site, from many different rallies. They are accessible through the aforementioned story, and there are about 194 of them!

OK if you guys won't agree on a Rally NZ car, it has to be Rally Australia, has to be 2002 as IXO do not do any other versions that Possum drove. :)

brchi17
18-12-2002, 07:18 PM
Personally, I really don't want a Rally Australia verson because Possum always had to run with a high number, rather than his #1 or #2 that we were used to seeing him with in the ARC.
I don't have many pics of the group N car, but I have about 12 pics of the Group A one (taken off the net over the years).
Either way, I can't wait - this is one model that I think we're all very excited about !!!!
cheers.

This is still happening, but obviously things have changed somewhat since we first asked you for preferences.
Please just allow some time and then it will happen.
In the meantime, the 1:18th is almost at the sample stage and we will post a pic as soon as it arrives.
This will be an Advance Order item which will go on site when it is about 3 weeks away from delivery.

Great news !!!

Now I could be wrong but I do remember hearing something about the #62 car that Possum drove in the WRC Group N championship being made, because it's an international Subaru entry.

At least sometime down the track, (while I'll never get the chance to meet the man at least) I'll be able to have a few of his car's which I've enjoyed watching over the years.

Thanks for the update admin.

cheers. :)

According to Possum his greatest victory ever was the NZ race to the sky pikes peak style rally in 2001 when he won in his WRC impreza in Caltex colours and had NO navigator.
Australian motor racing in thier most recent magazine had a story about Possum with featured the car I've meanchened above.

FWIW I believe that Possums car should be his WRCar, this was the one that he loved, not "Ole Bug Eyes" that he was forced by a rule change to drive later. Actual event, not worried about 'cos I'll collect it regardless.

Unfortunately I only have 1 reasonable picture of Possums car from Rally NZ 2001 on the podium after the event with the silver fern flags hanging out the windows.

Cody Crockers car, I do have a number of pictures of engine bay, boot, interior and exterior from Rally of Adelaide 2001 that I took for an article for the car club magazine.

If someone is collecting these pictures to onforward to Biante let me know and I'll be happy to send them to you.

Well spotted Rex555. It's hard to tell if the photo is of the real car or the model. My guess is that it might be the real car.

Great choice for the Possum model & I hope this is the 1st of many to come.

The pre bug-eyed WRX's are always the best looking ones (in my opinion) & you've got to wonder what would the be premier class in the ARC if Possum hadn't dominated for so long in his trusty WRC WRX.

Attched is a couple (don't worry admin, this isn't a repeat of the motorshow thread !!! :D ) of pic I had of the 1999 WRX, that I downloaded a long time a go from www.subaru.com.au

As you would have read earlier, it is planned to get Possum's model out before the end of this year, but it's been a while since we're heard any news on this model, so hopefully in time all of those other Australian Suby's should come us well.

Welcome to the forum,

I wouldn't mind some Australian issue WRXs in road going trim. We got the UK issue STIs by the look of them. I think the 2000 model Aussie versions look great, and we haven't had any STI Version Vs or VIs yet. Even the Club Spec models would look good, especially the Club Spec Evo 3 in Blue Steel Mica would be great in the collection.
