Not a bad effort. I think it looks nice. Wouldn't hesitate to buy the diecast equivalent

Gee theres not a lot of difference between the new & old when its painted up like that. The VZ to VE change was huge, not saying eithers wrong or right, Its just a bit anti climatic.

I think there's been the same general sentiment with the actual FG road cars...difficult at first glance to pic from the BF it replaces....

And It's cousin the Mondeo....
I find it hard to like the new FG.....BA/F looked so much better.
At least the racoon eyes aren't on the supercar...

From looking at the car, the front and sides seem to be missing something. The side looks to flat and it doesn't have an aggressive look to it.

Just talking to a friend who works at the local Ford garage & he was telling me they had a new diesel Mondeo in & it wouldnt go. They looked for the computer & its located INSIDE the front guard. Pulled it out & drained nearly 100mm of water from it. Nothing like cars built for Aussie conditions.

As a plain blue racecar I don't mind the look of the new panda, but I think the white colouring makes it look a little hidden in it's proportions. I'll admit I was expecting to see a bird of something linking this to the Falcon heritage (like they did with T1) on it as to me the livery doesn't seem to exploit the vehicles assets, or perhaps that's their intentions.
I do wonder if it will ever race with that rear wing as it's seems to be angled a long way towards the back of the car compared to the BA-F.

An interesting article has been posted on the VESA website (http://www.v8supercar.com.au/content/hero_news/ju ne08/fg_falcon_supercar_tech_specs/) which is worth the read. Thinking out of centre field, after reading the article (where it said the seat was utilising the drive shaft tunnel for mounting the drivers seat & seat belts), I was starting to wonder if one day we may see the drivers sitting dead centre in the car aka Mclaren F1 style to better protect them from side impact crashes ???

They'd be sitting pretty high unless you used an offset driveline!!!!!!!!

Courtney takes FG on maiden public run
Release date: 07/06/2008

Ford launched its FG Falcon V8 Supercar to the public at Sandown today, but it was James Courtney driving it instead of Craig Lowndes. Yesterday afternoon, Ford became aware of a contractual obligation requiring Lowndes to wear his TeamVodafone racing suit while taking the car on its maiden public run. But Ford wanted the driver to wear a Ford racing suit to match the blue livery of the first FG Supercar, named FG01. Courtney was more than happy to swap his Stone Brothers Racing suit for a Ford one and climbed in the hot seat.
Lowndes said he was disappointed he did not get to show off the car, but was all smiles at the FG01 pit with the rest of Ford’s V8 Supercar drivers – including teammate Jamie Whincup – for the launch. A Ford spokeswoman said Channel 7 was keen to have Courtney as the replacement because of his relationship with the television broadcaster, given his past involvement with the show Dancing With The Stars. Courtney said he was honoured to end up as the first to drive the FG01 in front of the public. “It’s a great opportunity and it’s good to be able to bring the car here and show the fans what we have been working on,” he said. “If it’s as good as it looks we will be on a good thing.” Courtney said his Dancing With the Stars appearance had been great. “It’s opened a lot of opportunities and I guess this is one of them,” he said. “I’ve got a good relationship with Channel 7 and it’s starting to really pay off, not only for me and Ford but for our sponsors, including Jeld Wen, as well.”
Channel 7 pit reporter and Matthew White Motorsport driver Grant Denyer, who was passenger to Courtney, joked that he was nervous with the change of drivers. “James is as wild as his reputation is and unfortunately for me the steering wheel is too far away for my short hands to grab,” he laughed. Denyer said he was a Ford man “through and through” and that he was glad to be experiencing the new car. “When the newest, shiniest toy arrives, it’s a race to get inside it and as the first person to be in it, even if it’s the passenger seat, you still won’t miss my smile,” he said.
Denyer said the FG01 highlighted the future direction of Ford. “It is showing all the positive signs of becoming next year’s Championship winner,” he said. “It’s gift wrapped with a nice big bow for us today and you might as well call it Christmas.” It is not only Ford’s drivers who are confident of the FG’s Championship hopes next year. Ford Performance Racing truck driver ‘Tommo’, who is known to write messages on the FPR cars’ tyres, scribed a special message on one of the tyres on the FG01. It read: “Come race day, lion will be on the menu for this bird of prey”.

My first thought on seeing the rear of the FG V8 Supercar design was along the lines of "how vulnerable is the boot panel (as opposed to the bumper) to rear-end impact damage?"

Hope it goes as fast as it looks. Graeme U could be right there as an impact could force the boot up and effect downforce. Hope its got pins like the bonnet to keep it locked down

They do now. Part of the regs. With a decent thump, you can always pull the panels off the pins though, leaving a nice big hole.

cost containment design feature - standard road-car boot cheaper to replace then composite rear bumper:D

yep promo car.. thats why you cant see in the windows..
I was at a car show a couple years ago (around 2000) and they had the "HRT VT Supercar" on display...
sept it was a done up executive with real dark windows... that or I didnt know they drove standard interiors on the track.. sad really.. I was so exited to see a real supercar as I had never seen on until then... well.. until I found out it was fake.

Unless my memory has succumbed to CRS, fuel caps on Falcons, pretty much all the way back down the line to the XRs have been on the LH side ?? I have never found it a problem, just park with the LH side to the pumps. Only requires knowing where the LH side is in relation to the pumps without sticking your bollard out the breeze hatch....:D

Concur that david. The odd Falcon had everyone scanning the LH side looking for the cap because they at Ford decided a change was better than a holiday...:D Had an XD once but way back in the Stone Age !!
