Element 6 is basic Photoshop.
CS3 is Professional Photoshop.

Yeap I gathered that......
Well if one is for beginners and one is for pro, surely the pro one would have everything the beginner one does and alot more, i think that's what toecutter was getting at.
Photoshop Elements does most of what the pro version does but is only 1/10 of the price. I've been using it for several years as a photographer and I still don't use all its capabilities.
Its more than enough for most people. For most users, the pro version is wasted.

I see, so alot of the stuff is the same? I didn't want to get there thinking it was like the pro version and it to turn out to be completely different.
While a lot of the stuff is essentially the same, the way some of the tools work is a bit different to the pro version. Also Elements lacks some tools like colour channels and brightness/exposure curves (which can be useful tools) but it does have a few simplified tools that allow you to do similar things. Unless you are doing some pretty complex image alterations and artwork, Elements should be all you need.
