It's a mystery to me nick.

I like the model a lot, I think it's great and it is a Bathurst winner. Like you, I can't understand why it hasn't been a sellout.

Maybe it's because of the drivers - The Mad Hatter and Percy the Pom - not up there in the popularity stakes compared to the likes of Brock, Johnson and Moffat!

i agree goggles
can anyone help with the list of bathurst winners from biante????

Oi, what's this about Poms being unpopular?

I guess Win Percy always looked like someone's granddad, and never caught the imagination. He did however have one of the biggest crashes in Le Mans history, and that's got to be worth something! His XJR took off on the Mulsanne Straight at 240 mph and he said he closed his eyes tight. After what seemed like a long time with nothing happening, he opened them and saw that he was above the treeline, and thought "This is going to hurt"! The Jag landed and turned over, still doing over 200 mph, slid for several hundred metres and wore away not only the roof, but the top of Win's helmet as well! Not bad, I'm sure you'll agree!

There are quite a few Bathurst winners released, but as for the "actual" Bathurst Winners collection, this consists of the '90 grice/percy, '92 Richards/skaife, '00 tander/barg and '01 skaife/longhurst.

Nick,
Do you have this car?
If not do you have his autograph?
Have you ordered a 2 set?
If so you have, you'd have the better chance than anyone else on this forum getting Jackie Ickx to sign yours.

@Nick Short....hmmm...a signiture of Ickx would look really good on the certificate ....is there a slight chance of meeting him during a racing event next year? If yes let me please know...:D

My best chance of meeting him is at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (if any of you guys get a chance, you have to go - it's awesome!) in our summer. He's been several times, generally when I haven't been able to go (I'm sure it's nothing personal), but I'll make an effort in 2003. He's usually driving his ex-Le Mans Porsches up the Goodwood hill, and for those of you who don't know, this is a narrow strip of bitumen, maybe 4m wide and perhaps 1.5km long, that forms part of the drive in the grounds of Goodwood House stately home. It's pretty twisty in parts, and runs past the lawn in front of the house and up a wooded hill. At the FoS a variety of competition cars and bikes take turns to blast up the hill, either as demonstration runs (untimed) or full-bore, foot to the floor timed runs. The sight of a Le Mans Ferrari 512M, Porsche 917K or 962, WRC Subaru, NASCar, Williams F1 car, or even 5000hp dragster, trying to negotiate the road, smoke pouring off the tyres, is amazing! And often these cars are driven by the guys who drove them originally, or by current competition drivers. So hopefully Mr Ickx will be there, but when I wrote to ask last year I didn't get any answer, so it might not be possible to know beforehand. They do tend to just breeze in by helicopter, and sometimes turn up for only one of the 3 days - there's no knowing.

Nick Short, got room for a visitor?. I'm saving already. I have seen a few videos on the FoS and it looks awesome.

I have to see a Mclaren F1 GTR but I would settle for a 333sp, P4, 250 GTO, 917K etc (if I had to choose that is). My Dad reckons there is no better sound than an old Ferrari V12 at redline but I haven't heard one to compare. He still talks about watching Chris Amon in the 330 P4 Ferrari at Longford (I was talking to John Goss about Longford and he was in that race, driving as hard as he could and Amon just flew past like Gossy was stopped, even John thought it was an awesome machine) and the 250LM at Warwick Farm.

Remember when you go, TAKE A DIGITAL CAMERA!

Richard, you have to go!!! I'll meet you there (and anyone else who makes it). As for the GTR, how about a road-registered Gulf racer? It might be there again....Ferrari and Porsche-wise, on occasions I've been there have also been (and many of these were plural) 333SP, P4 and P3 uprated to P4 spec, 250LM, 250GTO, 512M (1971 Le Mans racer, not recent model road car), 288GTO, F40LM, 275GTB, 917K, 934, 935, 936, 937, 956, 962, 911GT1, 911GT2, plus as many other historic rally and race cars of any kind you care to mention, from way back when to the present day. Many are Le Mans winners, hot from the previous weekend's race and covered in brake dust and dead insects! All of these cars are just parked on the grass outside the house, no fences, no security, just wander around and drool! It's so relaxed that in 2000, while the Audi Le Mans cars were being fired up for a run (mechanics and drivers sat on the grass with crowds sat around them!), spectators were using Ickx's Le Mans-winning Rothmans 962 as a bench! I've had to step out of the way of a Le Mans Ferrari 512M squeezing past on a footpath, had to get up and move my picnic as one of the Audi works drivers decided to take a shortcut across the lawn to the track, and watched some of the world's most famous drivers ambling about, waiting to jump in their car and go for a run up the hill. If I can work out how to do it, I'll post a couple of photos for you, and anyone else who might be interested.

Hi Nick Short,

I know this is getting way off the line of the original thread, but I have a couple of questions regarding Goodwood....

1. Where exactly is it?

2. How bad are the crowds and parking?

Thanks in advance.

PS. I enjoy reading all your comments. It's nice reading the thoughts of another Biante fan outside Australia.

Hi KiwiRallyFan - Goodwood is in West Sussex, near the south coast of England, not too far from Portsmouth. It's quite easy to get to from London and elsewhere and I've always found parking very easy, but then again I try to get there for when the gates open at 6am! That way I can park closest to the event (the event is held on a posh country estate, and all parking is in open grass fields - there's space for thousands of cars) and there's virtually nobody there. So I have the cars to myself for a couple of hours, as they're just parked on the grass all over the place, and have been all night, in rain and heavy dew. Once I've fixed my scanner I'll post some pics - In 1999 (I think) they had about 25 past Le Mans winners just parked in a curve on the grass, including the two-times winning Gulf GT40 and New Man Porsche 956, both conservatively valued at US$10 million! And no security, as I said before! As the day wears on the crowds get bigger (Sunday is the biggest day of the three), but I've always had no problem with getting access to any of the cars I want to see - the grounds are so big that there's plenty of room for everyone. And you can wander along the course, so you can get a number of different viewpoints. It's rightly considered one of the best events of its type in the world, and I think it's the informality of it that sets it apart. Where else could you stand in the Williams F1 pit and watch them work, or chat to a guy changing the sparkplugs on a Le Mans Porsche 917, let alone get photos of stars like Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx and Alan Jones, all waiting by their old cars, ready to go for a blast?

sorry to change the subject (goodwood sounds great-if only i could go to england).
back to my original post, if i get the 1990 and 2000 bathurs winner, both selling extremely cheap for bathurst winners, do u think the value will gain, seeing as i imagine lots of people will be trying to collect all bathurst winners(me included)

nick - regardless of the price rising on these 'sleepers' if you like them or are collecting bathurst winners then I would suggest you pick them up @ that price while you can, as you never know when the market will rise on these 2 cars. The VL is a great looking car one of my favourites and the 2000 is great also the wets on this car look good unlike the others with slicks.

nick short - that event sounds awesome! would love to see some pics when you can.

As has been stated by others , There are Video's etc. out of various years on this uniqe event.
I seem to remember that they encourage old fassion clothing for entry to the Pitarea at a particular year and the Pics were awsome.
This is the event that Sir Jack got hurt and another Australian got Killed in a Lotus if I am not mistaken.
You can get pics in a motorsportmagazine called ## MOTORSPORT ## this was founded in 1924 and is still going as strong as ever before. sometimes you get a complimentary video/dvd with the issue and once a CD with the sounds of Goodwood !! plus indebt articles and foto's of the days gone bye on all forms of motorsport.
