10 years ago this following model was produced. This model was special for many reasons.
It was the first australian 1:18 model that most australian die cast collectors, car enthusiast, and anyone with a passion for the 70's could relate to. I am sure that many people purchased this mode 10 years ago not knowing what the are getting them self into.
on a personal note i have been collecting model cars since the early 70,s but this was my first 1:18 scale car, and at the time I purchased 2 of them, One for me and one for my son. I have purchase one more since for my other son ( 2000).
enough of my jibber.......here are some facts

July 1998 :
#22721 - 1:18 Ford XY Falcon GTHO - Track Red - 5,000 pcs in window box.
All of these models have external mirrors on both front doors.
This is the first ever 1:18 scale diecast model of an Australian car.

current value last 20 average is $546
last 100 average is $495

2007 = $471
2006 = $471
2005 = $436
2004 = $386
2003 = $350
2002 = $206
2001 = $158
2000 = $145
1999 = $125
1998 = $120

record sale = $2500 feb 2008
lowest sale = $78 april 2000 ( my purchase :D)

This is a tru classic and will stand in time as such?
currently the value of models cars is dropping due to external forces ( economy, fuel prices, less expendable income) but this model is still going strong.

I never really looked at it & thought of the $$$ its worth, but you are right about what it started as it was a car I pre-ordered from a flyer in the Gamesworld at northland & was thinking if I'm about to waste $120 on a toy lol, never did I know the hobby was going to cost me well over $10k in 10 years.

In either 1996 or 1997, Trevor showed acouple of prototypes in a Modelcarshow in South Perth to gage reactions on if they were saleable.
I remember this very well and was the birth of the Biante enterprise in earnest.
One was a red one and the other was a white one, the back doors were not of the openable variety and was still worked on to make it happen.
Looka a the collection now!!

thank you , your information is truly amazing.
and it is great that you find time for the family and hopefully other things.
i first saw this model in a TV lift out magazine and wanted one.
to no avail sold out everywhere, finally managed to get one some time later.
swapped a rare factory model of a Fokker F27 aircraft for it with no regrets.

Trevor presented the WA GT Club with one of the first 2 pre production run red cars and it was auctioned at the GT Nationals that year held jointly by the SA & WA clubs (about 2000?) I think that one went for about $2100-2200 at the time with proceeds going to charity. It was very generous of Trevor to release one of the companies first cars in this way.

Currently ranked the 16th most valuable Biante model.

I guess this model has special meaning to me, it was the first model that i really showed off and displayed to many people coming over to my place ( i did not get the chance to display my model cars in full till 2006).
i kept all my models in boxes for nearly 10 years only rotated a few.........back on topic.
This is the models that introduced collection to some of my friends and even and it evoked many momories of my 30 something (age) friends

Finally a diecast manufacturer can bring back many happy thoughs in a well defined scale replica that was big enough ( 1:18 to touch and feel)

This it the model that sealed my full appreciation of 1:18 scale cars ( thank you Biante). It was the first Allan Moffat model and also the first racing model produced. This was and probably is one of my top 5 fav models and at the time it was the model. I am sure that many die hard racing fans have been dreaming for a company to produce a racing model that evoked their fondest memory, Both Holdnen and Ford fans . It reached a high in vales in 2006 and many eager collectors paid more than that for one. Since then CC has produce a copy model and it has influenced the average value of this car. But to me the CC car does not have the charm of the Biante model ( not CC bashing, just my opinion)

This it the 3rd road Ford made by Biante and for the first 5 year it was not a very popular model. In 2003 the model suddenly increase in value ( less available) and many people tried to capitalize on this in the following years. It is currently the same value as it was late 2002 and still looks like dropping.
On a personal note, I have this model due to the fact that it is part of a theme I collect………but this is my least favorite of the road going falcons ( no offence Biante). I basically dislike the colour.

In May 1969 the first of the XW GT's rolled off the Broadmeadows assembly line. Ford had upped the ante with the XW by fitting the 351 cubic inch (5.8 litre) Windsor V8 with an output of 290 BHP (217KW) and 385 ft/lbs. of torque. With bigger brakes, a final drive ratio of 3.25:1, a huge 36-gallon (164 litre) fuel tank and suspension modifications to take the extra power and torque, the XW seemed to be the ultimate Grand Tourer.

Can not belive that this model is now 10 years old, how time flies. As most models will go up in value this has gone against the trend. Still relatively cheap and easy to get. A must for any ford fan

This was the first road going torana produced by Biante in 1:18 scale,

Pricing has been steady, it had a spike in 2007 ( like many models) but has since stabilized. I don’t currently own one of these models so some one my want to add to this topic ( who owns one, maybe a photo)

Hi Leigh,
going by memory which can play some tricks at our age!
The Brock 28c was the first Torana produced.
The March 17th Green was the first road car, the Mustard was released a short time later.

Richard Poole

Leigh is correct. The green LJ Torana was the first Holden we produced. The 28C Brock car was released 2 months later, followed by the Mustard Torana two months after that.

This was one of the first model cars I ever bought. When I saw it I could not believe a company was making 1:18 scale Australian Muscle cars. I never really liked the traxx cars, they just looked odd to me.
Anyhow I swapped my Grecian Gold XW for a Johnson Tru Blu XD Bathurst Winner.... not a bad trade looking back now.

I did work experience at a model shop in Sydney in 2000 and they had a Biante Phase 3 1 18 in that mustard yellow colour with a broken aerial and no box/certificate. They gave it to me as a Thanks for work experience and I sold it last year for $200+

Didn't expect a lot for it, but it just shows how valuable those cars can be. I didn't keep it because it didn't go with what I'm collecting these days.

Up and down, that's the price trend due to CC's introduction of their 64E which retailed at $215. If the CC's version did not exist, this would be an $800+ model car today. I know of people who paid $1250 for the 65E.

Really wasnt expecting that since maybe a couple of weeks ago one sold for $1700.... You wouldve thought that the highest bidder of the $2500 auction would have placed bids for the earlier one... But anyway

Im not sure but did you guys read the description of the model? He xplains why some came in twin mirror and others in single. From what i understood, basically, Biante needed to show their models since Track Red was sold out instantly so they got 134 track red and painted em white. Then the remainder was the moffat one (i think) which was obviously single mirror...

Jeez has it dropped that much, have not looked at prices for models for so long... I remember paying about $460 for this a few years ago and that was a good price.

Also remember paying $600 for the 65E when it was fetching $1000-$1200. Have it sitting in the cupboard with the CC version on display... sigh... Was my holy grail in the day.

I think if Biante worked on advertising that their models are collectable not just for sentimental reasons but also for investment then maybe models will not go down as much??????
Just Maybe?

the could work on volume numbers ( lower), possible quicker reaction time for release and also informing customers/members on current values.

advertising and informing potential buyers on current values and selling as an investment would leave Biante open to litigation. Licensed real estate agents are forbidden to sell homes on this basis. An agent cannot tell a buyer that you should purchase this home because it will be worth double in 10 years (even though it's true on most occaisions)... Yes true.....but they are not selling second hand models they are selling new.

This is like telling coin collectors they are not allowed to state that the 1930 penny is worth a fortune.

This is showing that there is more than one reason to collect.

Now ive got it on display and to this day surprisingly the antenna hasnt budged. I bought the perfect glue for it as well just in case the day came when i needed to repair it. I can respond to this question, i used to respond to all of them until my threads got moved to the Buy and sell section.
That caused a whole pile of new posters to use the info tomake profits.

I can continue to provide a similar service to what i used to if it helpfull.

So I ask fellow members,

Would you like me to provide this service again?
Would it be helpfull?
would the moderators like it?My only issue is responding to members who have just a few post and or members who do not contribute to the forum but just take and take......but i think i am ugly and enough and big enough to tell them were to go????

basically it is up you guys? I have not stopped gathering info...i just dont shared it around any more

In the past, I offered a bit (not much) to the members here and allowed a few idiots to spoil an enjoyable thing. They aren't worth thier weight in poop, tell them where to get off.

Ric, I did also love reading your stats, but did think towards the end that people were demanding too much and some were not very appreciative of your time.

I think the best way to answer your question is to say, do what you feel comfortable with. If you decide to start posting the figures again and it gets too much, then stop. This is something you should enjoy and not feel to be a chore.

I must have joined this Forum about the time you stopped providing your regular "Values" service....I now recall having seen your "10 years ago", etc, posts, then they ceased appearing.....now I know why. But I, for one, am happy to see them return, since you ask. Not that I actually use the info in any material way - I collect what I collect to collect them, not to resell nor make a profit. But it is nonetheless very interesting to read and muse over - and since you're doing it anyway, some of us enjoy that you share it. As for people that get demanding - send 'em a PM, and tell 'em to go bite their........! That's my 2c worth. Cheers, Jim.

perhaps make yourself up a mailing list of the people you are happy to do it for, and distribute just to them every 3 months or whatever? It limits people asking at least.

I've trawled through your previous posts to get pricing for everything i have a possible interest in down the track when $$ are available and made up my own spreadsheet, although the prices are now over a year old :D

Ric,

I've alway found your posts to be a valuable resource.

I've always found your Averages to be accurate esp for prchase & insurance purposes.

I for 1, would be pleased if you'd start to post again as some of the quips were amusing;)

As has been already said, do what you feel comfortable with.

Many thanks for your help in the past (esp the provision of the recent CD):)

Cheers

Still got 3 years to go before I discovered biante when i was on holiday in Australia in 2003. It was the 1975 Moffat XB that I saw in a shop in Wagga and the shopkeeper said that it was a one off model and there was no other cars being made. Must have heard my accent and tried it on lol.

The value of certain modles baffles me. You would think this model, being the first Biante V8SC would be a valuable model.

I'm with you - some that you'd expect to be "high demand" just don't seem to have much of a market, and vice versa. And it doesn't always seem to relate to how many were produced. Also, the fluctuations, over the years, that some models have is interesting (witness the Moffat XC car that "inter" posted up, after the post that you commented on). Other cars have a fairly flat line over the years (some consistently high, some consistently low) EG the Skaife car in the same post.

It's no wonder that Biante find it difficult to match the limit of the release, to the actual market demand. (Good example: [in comparative road car models] there were more, IIRC, Walky 1:18 GpA VL's than HDT 1:18 GpA VL's produced [and in 1:1, both are famous/collectable, both won Bathurst, etc], and the two 1:18's are of similar quality - yet the Walky is valued above current RRP's, and the HDT is being off-loaded at Autobarn at almost half current RRP for a Biante 1:18. How would you estimate the release limit ? It would be interesting to spend time with "inter's" stats, and try to determine if there is a pattern, and if so, what it is !!

there is a pattern,
with out CC ( copy releases) influence i general;

Brock, Moffat and Johnson cars go up in value
Race cars 25% of releases go up about 15% stay static and the remaining 50% go down ( i general)
road cars 7% go up in value 12% stay static and 81% go down ( 53% actually go down by double)
the 4th year after release is 78% of the time the peak year

Interesting, once again, Inter.
These last few posts show fairly high release numbers back then. Out of interest, what sort of number limits do the recently released V8SC's have by comparison ?
Just wondering if the release numbers 10 years ago were a bit optimistic, compared to actual sales, and compared to more recent "limited number" releases.
Cheers, Jim.
