what are the best driving games on playstation 3, with real damage and handling????

Road Runner 72

Grid "still a little like arcade tho" but very good as it covers most driving styles!

I still love Burnout Paradise for fun, damage is awesome but its an arcade style game with a bucket load of things to do!

Nascar 09 is pretty good, even if it isn't 100% simulation.

When/If V8 supercars 4 is made, that should be a good race simulator as V8 3 has good graphics, handling and damage and I would assume on PS3 it would be an excellent game.

Need for Speed Pro Street isn't too bad, has damage and the handling feels better than Grid. Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is good for the handling but no damage, but i read they might bring out an update with damage.

Need for speed pro street is good fun but didnt last long enough, "drag is fun" and Grid handling is good as it takes a few laps to get the gist of it, as for me I like a little challenge, but both good fun.

Driving an Audi LMP1 in Grid in the dark around Lemans then having brain fade and turned left instead of right, scared the crap out of me as I had my AMP up a little to high lol.

Kashmir is right Nascar 09 is great, been having some fun the the truck series!

I finally got the router that I needed and connected to the net on the weekend. Sorry if this has been done before, but who else has a connection and what username do you use? Lastly, which game(s) do you prefer for online?
My handle is Jynweythek; games that I own - Grid, GT5P, GTAIV, Fear and Motostorm - although I haven't used the last 2 online yet.
Cheers.

Anyone have Guitar Hero 3 or Aerosmith? I was originally sceptical but once I played the I was hooked. a good party game where everyone can join in and have a laugh. You don't need to be into racing or know button combo's for fighting games, just press buttons.

Good for a laugh.

I have Guitar Hero 3 and i will probably fork out for Aerosmith when it comes down in price. i too was surprised by it as i had never played the PS2 version previously and didnt really know what to expect. only thing i dont like about it is that you will get some good songs, then you will get some really questionable ones, but i guess it needs to cater for as many people as possible... its a real test of some people's hand-eye co-ordination though:D:p

Aerosmith is heaps easier than GH3. I prefer GH3 for the variety of songs but bought Aerosmith as GH3 was sold out everywhere I went.

Like Mike said, it's just a good fun game that with a couple goes most people can get into it and have a laugh. Guitar battles are good fun as well (my brother has GH3).

GH World Tour looks good with drums and vocals.

I got myself a PS3 about a month ago just to see what this Bluray fuss was all about, I had no intention of buying games for it apart from GTA4 which it came with. I figured I would play it a little as an added bonus as I'm not a Sony gamer. Well I just got SBK 08 in the mail today and I have been having a lot of fun with it so far and I have GT5 Prologue with a Driving Force GT wheel in the mail at the moment. Funny thing is I only got it for the Bluray player and I'm yet to see one.

I have to prop up my coffee table using four yellow page ph books to get the g25 at a decent height and use 2 pillows for my back but thats motor racing lol... grab the silvia and go drifting .. give it some practice, its tricky at first.. I gaurantee you'll love it.. and with the jmc1000 open wheelers ... brake as little as possible ... just use gears and throttle control... Happy Motoring.

Richard Poole
24-10-2008, 06:51 AM
While I have never run a dedicated blu-ray through my TV I can safely say the PS3 runs extremely well as a blu-ray. With the built in wireless internet it automatically downloads online content when the disc starts. Watched Iron Man last weekend and there is quite a bit of online content not included on the disc. I can see more and more blu-rays going this way.

Highly recommended. Don't have the remote as yet so just using the standard controller but even then, no problems.

Same here, never played a bike game that I liked. They just can't get the physics and handling right. Read a review on this one and it didn't sound too positive but it'd be good to get another opinion.

Only have the sound running through the TV at the moment. Only just got into the house and haven't bought a speaker pack yet. Trying to work out which one's to get. Must be low profile (in the open plan lounge room). We'll see. Sound out of the TV is good (52" Sony X series LCD) so I'm happy to wait and get the right speaker pack.

PS3 as a blu-ray player works fine, but I have not tried a standalone player.

I have mine hooked up to a HD Sony Bravia via the HDMI cable and use optical for the sound. Denon amp probably around 4years old with a nice Velodyne amp and the speakers I can't think of the brand at the moment (hate that)...... but it all does the trick, the sub is fantastic and had it for about a year now and it rumbles the house!!!

The quality of the blu ray movies is fantastic and after watching a normal dvd you can tell the difference. Although with the price of blu-ray movies around $40-$50 I only buy the 'blockbuster' ones....

Richard Poole

Watching DVD's through the PS3 and receiver upscales extremely well. Picture on an upscaled DVD compared to Blu-ray is very even. Very happy. Like watching movies all over again.

Ok, spent about 30mins last night having a crack at MotoGP 08. Wow it is hard! Not use to playing bike games and it is hard getting use to riding. I had it on arcade mode and this is fairly easy, and less spinning and falling off, but took it up the next level and it is alot harder.
Sliding around corners, falling off if you touch someone and generally pretty hard. Have not tried the simulation mode - hate to imagine!
There are quite a few different perspectives when riding although I was almost sick trying to do the first person view... Holy cow these guys must have you know whats the size of watermelons!!! It is seriously a hard view to get use to and I stuck to the view of being behind the rider and seeing the entire bike. I normally place racing games where all you see is the track/road but in this it is too hard for me especially with all the leaning and such, I was getting sea sick...haha
The graphics are pretty good, didn't watch any of the replays yet.
I do not know how real it is but it was alot of fun/frustrating at the same time and will take a while to get use to the braking and where to brake for corners. I found I could catch up quite easy though especially along the straights, so not sure why that is, because I would have thought that the bikes would be fairly well matched.
I had a few big stacks and if it was in real life I am sure Casey (who I played as) would not be walking away and getting back on his bike to keep going...
It is something different for me and hopefully a bit of fun. Career season mode should be good.
Hope that helps a bit...

I found the same thing with SBK08. The first person view is impossible to use and thats the only view I ever use in racing games too. When I played SBK for the first time I thought what did I buy this for I am so bad at it but now I'm quite good compared to where I started. I tend to catch everyone on the straights in SBK too but I've noticed its because I'm on the throttle a lot earlier off the corner than everyone else. What do you think of the tracks? When I tried Phillip Island on SBK I thought it seemed too narrow personally. Also have you tried it online? I just found out that SBK08 and MotoGP08 are developed by the same team so chances are they are very similar games.

No worries guys... Yeah that is possible.

Great fun and I am looking forward to starting my career and riding on the different tracks.

Will take more note of the graphics when I play it again, but at first glance they seem pretty darn good. I remember finding some old PS1 games and put them in the PS2 and thought, jeez - and I thought these were good! Games like cool boarders and TOCA for example... how the times have changed for the good old playstation and gaming in general.

Also started downloading the demo of the new Motostorm this morning, hopefully it comes down while I am at work :) Love the first game and still playing it, plus bought some new cars from the store and the devils weekend pack. Such a fast action packed racing game, although some parts of the game can be a little dark and hard to see where you are going... Great way to relieve some stress, or get stressed trying to win - haha.

I've just been playing Prologue online and while I'm quite bad at it I was having some mild success. I was racing a guy from the Netherlands and another Aussie. I was slipstreaming the guy from the netherlands when he slammed his brakes on right in front of me and forced me spinning onto the grass on the infield. Anyway race over, so I entered again and raced the same 2 guys. I was first and I was looking in my mirror and saw the same guy from the Netherlands punt the Aussie off the track onto the grass. Do you guys come across many dirty racers while your online?

Sometimes drivers suddenly swerving out of control is caused by a slow or bad internet connection. Generally these cars fade out if that happens so it doesn't effect other drivers. Haven't really come across many dirty drivers in my experience. I stand by my moves being forceful, not dirty! ;)

Haha! Yeah I thought they faded when they drove dirty. I wouldnt have been bothered much by being turned around like the other guy was, when you're racing side by side things like that a bound to happen. It was the brake testing that I didnt appreciate when there was absolutely no need to even consider touching the break pedal he slams on the anchors.

Anyway some of these events are pretty hard to pass. I can generally get silvers but the golds are proving difficult. I burst out laughing the other night because I had 180,000 credits and thought the ferrari F1 said 200,000 instead of 2,000,000 so I was trying to save until I got the extra 20,000 to buy it. I hadn't been drinking I swear! I'm itching for the F1 but fear I will never get enough credits for it.

Hey guys - update on MotoGP 08

Started my career last night, starting from the 125 class and it is awesome. Start off with free practice and then you do qualifying and then into the race.
1 thing I have noticed though in all of these (practice/qualifying/race) is that the frame rate drops a bit (slows down). You will be going into a corner and then all of a sudden the frame rate drops and can be a little annoying. This is when there are no other riders in the frame too... If there were other riders in the frame I might accept it but can be annoying.

Great fun though. You also get to upgrade your bike when you earn points, eg you can start increasing max speed, traction, braking and acceleration.

I qualified 5th in the first round and won the race, was pretty exciting racing and was great fun. Got my heart beat racing... 2nd round qualified 1st on my last lap and have not raced yet... Qualifying is fun and now I know what it feels like when you are on a hot lap and someone comes out of the pits in front of you and puts you off and slows you down!!!

Replays are not the greatest I have seen but so far I think the game play is alot of fun and once you get use to the bikes you start to know when and where to brake. The 125's are great fun.

I just purchased MotoGP today, just gotta wait for it to arrive now. In SBK08 you can do all the sessions warm ups etc. and when I first saw it and started doing it I thought it was a brilliant idea, but after a few races I got bored of it as it ended up taking too long to finish a race weekend so I skip them all now except qualifying, superpole and the races.

the_goldie
31-10-2008, 12:03 PM
Yeah I was thinking this also, but like to setup the bike to get a good time in Practice before heading into the qualifying. Plus it gives you a good chance to get use to the track. I find the bikes harder than racing cars.

Hey Mike,

No have not tried the online... Also with the frame lag, I did not get it the other night when I played -- so that was weird?
I have changed my mind on the replays too... they are pretty good and some of the different angles they use are awesome with some great detail, especially on the leathers and the bike and the reflections etc... Guess I was a bit too quick to judge ;)

Was fun racing around Shanghai in the wet! It's great fun when you are in a tussle with a few other riders and you are all faster at different parts of the track.

I've had Moto GP 08 for two days now. Online worked fine on day one, smooth as, day two however was a different story. I continually got disconnected (nothing wrong with my end) from every race I joined and there were hardly any to join anyway. The practice/qual/race thing is quite good. The reason it drove me crazy in SBK is because you have FP1/FP2/Qual1/Qual2/Superpole/Warmup/Race1/Race2 for every weekend and that just sent me mad so I skipped them all. At least in motogp theres only 3.

Also looking forward to the need for speed game coming soon, download the vids, looks like the old skool games mixed up with a story line!

I must be about the only person here who doesn't like Grid! I found it too unrealistic, ie brake half a second too early and you get rear ended by 30 cars - very frustrating! Then again I only hired it for a couple of days, maybe a bit more time to get used to it would be helpful.

I got GT5p a couple of weeks ago, it plays well with a driving force pro wheel. Just a pity I can't utilise the clutch function with it. Can't wait till the full version comes out, but that could be 2010, apparently:mad:

I actually built myself a "Simulator". Just a rough one, mounted a Commodore seat onto a sheet of mdf, screwed the pedal box to it and made a "Table top" to mount the wheel on. Sat it in front of my LCD projector screen, it's an awesome way to play racing games!:D

But as we all know some peole likes games while other don't!, I just like to play with buddies.

I'm only on the second mission so far, they seem hard, but I guess getting through them you need good tactics and patience to flush the enemy out. It's no good running into a fire fight with guns blazing because as you know you get cut down pretty quick. Looking forward to the last mission......if I ever get there! :)

In my opinion cod4 (game of the year) kills cod5 world at war (lag fest spawn kill extravaganza) the only thing good about cod5 is the Zombie co-op.,farcry 2 is a great game, underated in my opinion... the ability to make your own maps and share them gives the game longevity.. I think if farcry 2 wasnt released just before cod 5, socom, and resi 2... lot more ppl would be playing farcry.. another thing to consider with shooters is, are you getting it to mash other ppl online or just play the single player campaigns?.. coz if single player is all your after Id recommend going with cod4 or even resistance fall of man for that matter... after all it was the game that carried sony's Ps3 for a good 12 months,.. the storyline/plots in cod5 & resi2 are pretty weak in comparison..
I read someone mention MOH .. Ive played a few of these on ps2... great shooters didnt know they had an MOH for ps3..
As for racing games.. I pretty much just play grid online with Roadrunner72 from this forum.. hoping for a decent f1 to come out soon

Anywho.. enough rambling...

Its set in post nuclear war ravaged Washington DC, its completely open ended. you can go anywhere, do anything, the maps huge, i really really enjoy it. it will take hours and hours to get anywhere near finishing it.

i highly recommend it.

skaifeyfan2

yeah similar to Far Cry ;)

no vehicles, you get around on foot. which means a bit of walking, although once you reach destinations you can teleport back to them, if that makes sense.

mega ultra sexy weapons. combat shotguns, nuclear weapons, pistols, sledgehammers, if you can think of it, its in Fallout.

Zen

Personally I think farcry2 is a great game.. its a huge open map.. and how you get to places or what you do is up to you.. there are vehicles to drive or you can simply catch a bus to get to a destination.. lots of weps and just recently in the playstation store you can purchase for $15.00, an expansion pack with 4 new multiplayer maps new weps and 2 or 3 new vehicles.. farcry also comes with its own map editor which allows you to make your own multiplayer maps and share them online with evryone

some video rental store's rent games.. might be worth a ph call to your local to see if they rent games... good way to try before you buy any game

Cheers, Zen.

i'm up to the bit right at the start of the game where you leave megatron (or whatever it's called) the town and you have to go to that galaxy tower or whatever it's called but i just can't get there without getting killed.

talk to everyone in Megaton, especially Moira Brown in Craterside Supply, they give you easy quests to do, and you get good guns from doing them, which makes killing super mutants (which i assume is what you're encountering) much easier.:cool:

dya understand how to use VATS?

Quick question. I mainly want my PS 3 to be a blu-ray player and will not be gaming much.
What's the difference in having a 40 gig or 80 gig model and is it really worth having the extra memory?

Not too sure about the differences but I have the 40gb model and I have connected my extenal hard drive to it so I can watch all my Top Gear and other shows I have on the computer.

So if it is just a difference in space then it wouldn't really matter as you can connect a bigger hard drive to it

Road Runner 72

You know it also plays divx and a bunch of ago's that can be stored on the ps3 hard drive, it also can store music CDs & photos which look awesome on a plasma, so for you buddy I would go the larger one, and remember you can always install larger hard drives in the ps3 aswell. Hope that helps a little.

Zen
16-01-2009, 01:30 PM
I think Mike meant Avi's not ago's...

Wayno... if all your doing with your ps3 is watching movies.. and not planning on using it to store photos and music, games and game demo's etc... makes no difference then to the hdd size you buy

Cheers

Joint called GAME.. They had a massive post xmas sale, also got Baja Racing for $35.. For some reason only one copy had a 'Reduced By Half' sticker on it (normaly $70) so i took that copy to the counter and scored the discount. But the manager was spewin a bit coz apparently that game went off sale the day before and one of the workers had missed peeling off the sticker on my copy, so he had to honour it... :D :D

Still dont like the command bit.. Id rather work alone.. lol
