Its getting close to that time of year again ;) the 2008 Historic Sandown....Nov 7,8,9. This meeting is Round 1 of the 2008/09 New Zealand F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series... 20 F5000's already entered, fingeres crossed that the Chris Hocking ex John Goss AGP Winning Matich A53 races..... hard charging veteran racer Kenny Smith is down to drive the second Dave Abbott owned Lola T430's..... 30 years since its fearful crash with Alan Hamilton at the wheel.... Hopefully Chris Hyde returns to OZ, id think a 1m07 is possible ;).....
For the Tin Top fans so far a decent feild of Group C and A cars has entered.... Notables include Paul Stubber in the A9X, Frank Binding in the ex Muir XD, Bob Tweedie in the Sierra and Mike Roddy in the Jaguar XJS....
Mike will be busy as he is also down to run the awesome sounding XJS Sports Sedan.... Darren Hossack and the fast Audi A4 will be hoping to beat his previous record of 1:08.5689.... Just 2 tenths off the outright record of Roger Williams in the McRae GM1 F5000...
Im counting down the days :D

I start holidays in the last week of october so will be a definate starter for this one this year if they open the back of the circuit up.
I refuse to take photos from the front straight as it's boring.

it's unlikely that they will. although crowd numbers are usually good, there not big enough to open the back up to spectators. i don't remember them doing it in the 9 years i've been a flagmarshall.

you can always do what the cheaskates do. park just inside the Dandenong road gate and take photos of the cars coming down the hill.

Dandenong road (ie Red Hill car park) will be open for spectators to drive and park at the fence, this section is the bit from turn 9 to the final corner. Entry wont be extra just use the ticket you get normally or buy a ticket at that entrance. There will be buses to and from the Red Hill car park to the grandstand for those that dont want to walk/use their cars.
Bob Tweedie will be running 2x Sierra's, the PJ car for himself and an ex BTCC car for his Son in Group A/C. F5000's are expected to top 25 but how many will show? Group S is waaaaaaaaay oversubscribed which is unusual as Group N are usually the ones for that and entries are on target for 300 at closing date. I can't wait...

This sounds like a great day out. Wish I could go.
Can anyone who goes please take some pics of the ex- BTCC Sierra when they are there? Id love to see how it looks. It is an ex Andy Rouse machine that Tweedie had advertised at the Muscle Car Masters as being already for sale as well as his GSR Sierra.

G'day everyone,
In the mail on Friday I received an apprentice complimentary pass for both Saturday and Sunday to the 2008 VACC Hisoric Sandown.
Its on the 8th and 9th of November 2008 at Sandown.
I was just wondering if anyone is going, or have been in the past?

Great to see Tony Floreani in the ex John Walker/Stan Keen/Peter Midleton/Mike Adams/Paul Trevethan/Ranald McLurkin/Peter Brennan/David Doubtfire Elfin MR5 having a run.... did i forget anyone..... This car for a while ran as a Elfin 815 and sported semi ground effects iirc.... Also ran Ford power for a while.... Is now in original Elfin MR5 form.....
Interesting to note Lindsay O'Donnell's Begg FM5... I believe this is ex Chas Talbot who is running a Sports Sedan at the Sandown meet..... 30 years ago Chas rolled the Begg during the Rothmans Sandown round, had it put back on all fours and continued on before crashing again iirc....
No Chris Hyde.... so the Roger Williams lap record may be safe, but will the outright record stay? Mr Hossack will hopefully be trying hard ;)

Mate is that the one with the MR9 on it, i vaguely remember those....
Sandown's F5000 entry features 3 Elfin variants....They'll be a MR5, the MR6 and a MR8 (the one that ran as a Can Am for a spell)

The F5000 sounded fantastic when they blasted off on the rolling start...Group C & A Touring Cars had a good field, some cars i hadnt seen on track before in VIC.
No ex Team GTR's but some of the usuals on track included the PJ Sierra, the TWR Jag, GIO Walkinshaw and Malboro A9X Torana.
Got some great pics of all fields, crowd very small today.

Yep the Teddy Yip Theodore Lola T332 was driven by Alan Jones in the Rothmans series and the Kleber F5000 race in 1977.... Purchased by Jon Davison.... raced by Keith Holland @ the Sandown 78 Rothmans round.... After F5000 wound up went through a series of owners.... Now owned by 1980 Australian Formula 2 Champion Richard Davison, bro of Jon and father of Will and Alex......

I am fairly much in the same position except for the fact that she is already converted and actually got me more involved in cars/racing........ Just have to get another 1:1 now to even up the garage as it is a bit uneven at present with her in front!!!!

Won't be 1:18 although i have tried to convince Will and Rich to do a Elfin MR8 as they could get at least Bowe, Hunt, Perkins and Schuppan out of the mould.....
If the Lola T332 in 1:18 would appeal to the Euro and US market maybe there is hope of some Aussie Lola's as well.....

Just had a look at the Australian Motor Racing Yearbook from 85/86 and the "John Player & Sons" on the front bumper is what was on the car when it raced in 85.
Does anyone have any pics of my Pink Walkinshaw commodore from Sandown Historics 2008. the ex Tim Slako car from Bathurst 1989.
