Hi Guys, Glad u like the them, plenty more to come.
Unfortunatly other conflicting suff means I'm back in front of the TV this morning. I think it's my first Sunday I have missed for 10years reminds me of when I was a kid getting up early to watch it on TV except I'm not still in my PJs
I'm a full time photog now but I do more than motorsport, the motorsort stuff is just freelance.
I'm shooting wth a canon 40D which is a great semi pro camera. I use a selection of lenses but mainly swap between my 10 - 22 Which the above images where taken with and my 100 - 400 L series lens which I love.
The pic of the ausdril car was taken on the inside of the cutting which is the most awesome spot in aus to take a photos.
Attached pix shows just how close you get to the cars

Do you have similar ones of the UTES? Grant Johnson??
or even the 888 car?

No not me, I took the photo to show how close you get to the track. You take turns and order is based on your position in the pecking order LOL.
Sorry I was only up on the mountian for the V8s and Porsche Cup. I have some great shots of 888 just need to sort them all out.

i am thinking about the canon 50D with the 28 -200 mm
but it is out of reach at the moment due to priorities.

My advice with Cameras is always buy new and hang out for the best camera. The 50D is a great camera and worth the wait.

I have a 300D that is my back up camera and it is excellent. In fact during the rain on Sat I got some water on my 40D and it stoped working, pulled out the 300D and clicked on my lenses. I challenge anyone to spot the diffirence.

Funnily enough every time Skaife's new livery came over the mountain it had a bit of a 84 VK look about it, the way the new bonnet had the already mainly dayglo bonnet and the race tape went red white red, thus giving that "V" look about it. Maybe it was Skaifies way of bringing back the 84 !!

Quite a common theme I have noticed already that a few members were all around the same spots on the same day. BB and yourself were at Forest Elbow on Thursday morning, so was I. You were down on Murray's corner the same time I was there and after looking at Wayno's shots on Sat night the boys from Club Wayno were there as well.

that last shot , I was there taking pictures.
those two cars just hit each other?
And back to your question Inter, yes they did touch, but my shot was just after they hit. I was taking close in shots and was looking up at that moment, I saw them coming into the corner and new there was going to be trouble, I lifted the camera back up and wound out the zoom and just shot that. But the Sprint Gas boys were the most agressive all weekend, here is another of car 3 going the inside of one of the Vodaphone cars through the chase, similar circumstances, I saw this coming and knew it would be on!!

Just 3 from me. I was on words, not pictures this year so "Happy Hour" on Saturday was my only chance to get some shots.
Oh, here's one from pit lane, anyway - Alex Davison and Fabian Coulthard practice driver swaps.

A shot very late in car 15's career - this is the start of the lap where Paul crashed. I quite like Paul - he's a nice guy and this is pretty sad. Hopefully he can be back next year.

I'm one of the editorial writers for The Great Race (the annual hard-cover book). I was covering TKR, Glenfords, Perkins, Jones and Ford Rising Stars. Interesting. Even got my head (and stomach, they tell me) on TV, in the background.

Did anyone else find that some cars seemed easier to get in focus then others? I had real trouble with the 888 and HRT especially as well as FPR car 6. While some seemed to work much better more often - Perkins, Irwin car, TKR, HSV, PWR, PCR.

But here's a dumb ass question (as I'm not up on the finer technical details of of the V8 super car). What is the red light for in the right hand side of the windscreen? (as seen on the JD car on the previous page) I noticed this when watching the race, and some cars have it on and some don't.

During the enduro's, if its on, it tells you the designated co-driver is in the car. During the regular season it gets turned off once the compulsory pit stop is done.

Maybe the organisers should think twice about having the mini's do their stuff around the mountain? .....and yes, I do know a mini has won the great race in 1966.

Wouldn't think the type of car would be at issue - but the track is getting narrow for the speeds of modern cars. They should be looking at some way of softening blows (NASCAR SAFER Barriers maybe?) and increasing / adding run-off areas, as well as improving sight-lines across the apex of some corners - Reid and McPhillarmy Parks especially.
That said, this has been an unusally bad year - three injuries is unusually high. But I'll admit my first thought on seeing the TKR crash was of Mark Porter.

Yes
"Matters arising from Practice Friday:
Following an investigation and an admission by Chris Pither Car #021 that he had driven in a careless manner, contact with Car #50 Paul Weel, and he failed to slow for a waved yellow flag, the Stewards imposed a Fine of $6,000 with $3,000 suspended until 31/12/08. Supposedly reverting back to the 2008 season livery...this was a one off...
Judging by the result, I'm sure HRT will be happy so see the back of it.

Thats exactly what I thought when it came past me....glad it wasn't just me:D

Whitlam - Nice shot of the grid, first I have seen of it so far. Do you have a panoramic shot of the starting grid?
Panoramic shots might be in short supply this year.
The new helicopter operators didn't want to listen to Chevron's chief photographer and decided what he really wanted was a joy flight around the track, not to hover where he was effing well told so we could get aerial shots of the start.
Why don't people listen? I think the parting words were to the effect "Don't even THINK about sending me an invoice..."
Like I said, I could only get away for a short time so shot at Hell Corner only. Last year I got to the top of the mountain and got a lot more photos, like this one...

Looking at your angles you were most likely just in front of me on the grass.
Next year with our Club Wayno T-Shirts we will be able to recongnise each other :D
I was surprised they let people up there too because last year the cop told me I couldn't stand there until after the start, then this year I got there at 930 and it was already 4 deep so I just decided to go at the fence under the bridge where there weren't many people

Actually I was supprised I was there at all, in years gone past you were not allowed to stop on the walk bridges and security moved you on, this year the security walked on by and said nothing, for the start of the race it was about 4 deep on the walk bridge. Looking at your angles you were most likely just in front of me on the grass.

I ws told to move off there on the Thursday......and there was no bloody racing on at the time....all I wanted was a pic down the straight....was in no-ones way:rolleyes:

:D! Maybe we could wear them on alternate days? even seven days in the same shirt is pushing my Bathurst limits of endurance!
I know for a fact I need a change of clothes after our walking lap every year!
