View Full Version : What New Australian Touring Car Models Do We Want Biante to Make?
Unsure of what is on the drawing board at Biante HQ yet this is my little wish list:
RX7's Enables the various Moffat ATCC Champ winners, Bathurst Cars, & then the other classics including McLeod, Morris etc
Nissan Bluebirds
XU1's, HDT Beast, The Brock Rallycross, Bob Jane's XU1, Bob Morris XU1
The Jane & Geoghegan Monaro sports sedans. Would also buy the model in Brock colours
Johnson Mustangs
Bob Morris XD & XE's. There's a number of others that would look great also.
Camaros, Lets go. The Bathurst Pole sitters & KB even had an ATCC race win or two. The old BBQ Galores ones didn't look to bad either.
The VN/VP Commodores, Perkins, Brock, HRT, etc.
Brock Commodore Repco Trial winner
The VK/VL Commodores that represented Australia in Europe/NZ. A number of different cars could be done. Brock/Mobil, Moffat/Rothmans, Grice/?

All of the above plus Especially 1984 Fury Bathurst Bluebird

I'm not a big ute fan, but a few come to mind....
Brock farewell ute (Oran Park)
Skaife farewell ute
HSV Fastest ute Land Speed Record holder
and something very different.....
HJ, HX, HZ Holden Overlander 4x4, either ute, station wagon, panelvan, or Statesman.
(My brother built a ute from one of the last genuine kits available years ago)
Also, we can never have enough Brock models......

Without doubt, I'd like to see the Moffat/Hansford or Katayama RX-7 and the Fury/Scott '84 Bathurst Bluebird. There are plenty of cars that have been forgotten and I guess it all comes down to profitability as it's no good making a car that won't sell.
How about the Johnson/Perkins Mustang from '85, any of the 635 csi BMW's from the early to mid '80's - Charlie O'Brien's Bob Jane or the JPS, Kevin Bartlett's Starion? Larry's '86 Enzed Commodore?
Even Aussie Formula 1 cars in 1/18 like Alan Jones 1980 Williams F1 or any of the cars that Schuppan or Perkins raced in? Do we have to only request ATCC, Group A, Group C or V8 Supercars all the time?
ViperSRT10

Here's some of Larry's cars that I'd like to see, the Le Mans 88 entry of Larry Perkins / Kevin Cogan / Derek Daly which has been done as a slot car, but in 1/18? This car finished 4th overall that year, well worth a spot in our collections surely?

oh yeah, I can't wait to see this mighty beast, I would if Biante could post some images of how this model is progressing seeing we all know it's currently in production ???
Also speaking of Dick Johnson cars, it would be great to see a little more variety in what Biante release in this series as compared to the Brock collection it seems that ole Dick has nearly been forgotten.

I remember reading late last year in a Diecast Mag an interview with someone at Biante (cannot recall the name now) and they first EB will be the John Bowe 1993 car and prototype shots would appear in the first half of 09.
Something like that anyway, hope the 94 winner is sometime next year at latest!
Put me down for ANY DJR Mustangs. If Biante can tool a Brock 01, a Mustang should be a no brainer with the possible repaints.

Well GMP have a mold for the mid 80's Mustangs so Biante could maybe borrow one of those molds.
I'm hearing (including from this site) that Auto Art are doing a couple of 1985 Jags which would then mean that Biante can do a 1:18 1985 Bathurst Winner. Great.
No rush but nice to know that it will be done at some stage is the 1986 Volvo (ATCC Winner). I would have thought that a Volvo would have been done by Auto Art by now?
And yeh as above, I'd certainly be up for a Johnson Mustang. Unfortunately I think that the commercial options available to Biante for several cars from the one mould are pretty limited. There were also big variations between the 1985 & 1986 models.

Is that the Robbie Francevic Volvo you're referring to? If that one is done then we should get the 1979 Volvo with road tyres that Moff was complaing about at Bathurst as well.
The Johnson Mustang was released along with the JPS 635csi in the late 80's. I think from memory they were 1/24 scale and wood base mounted. I haven't seen one in a long time but I'm sure evilbay might reveal one every so often???
Yes Viper it is the Robbie Francevic Volvo, but no thanks on the thing that raced in 1979. Does anyone know of Auto Art perhaps did this car as raced in Europe at the same time? (The 1986 car that is)
I'm after 1:18 for the Mustang, but prepared to wait. Guess they've got a few of the Faclons to do from the mid 1990's first, but all in good time.

The Volvo was a 242GT from memory & was driven by Spencer Martin & David McKay. Had SVM number plates as in Scuderia Veloce Motors. They finished which is more than Moff can claim that year.
The 1/24 Stangs & Bimmers you refer to were done by Auscar Models based at the Birdwood motoring museum. Converted from Bburago models with parts he made himself. I have the BMW & would like the Mustang if anyone has one theyd like to part with.

I'd like to see some more ATCC winners in 1:43 like;
Beechey's 65 Mustang
Geoghegan's Mustangs from 66-69
Dick Johnson's 88 and 89 Sierras and maybe even a 1:43 1988 DJR twinset
As far as 1:43 Ford non-supercar ATCC winners go, the Biante 1984 Johnson XE is the only quality model available. Now that's a big gap in my collection that needs filling.

Does anybody remember the white Mustang #71 that Johnson used in practice for Bathurst 85 or for what purpose this car was entered?
Pug205
21-04-2009, 02:48 PM
Was Bathurst 1984 Viper.
It was his first Mustang fresh off the boat. Used it only as a back up in practice at Bathurst in case something happened to his Falcon (like it did in 1983). Even qualified it too from memory before withdrawing the car.
Does anybody remember the white Mustang #71 that Johnson used in practice for Bathurst 85 or for what purpose this car was entered?
Yeh was 1984. They did plenty of laps in this car, I guess as some solid testing in readiness for 1985.
Would have taken a real disaster for DJ to start this car as obviously going for the race win glory in the Falcon, which was obviously a well sorted good car in 1984, & suited to the mount.
History will tell us, did not work out that way though, & no tears here..

Not great quality though being a Bburago. Have a JPS version and a SPA see through version of the BMW.

Biante did a version of Richards JPS 635CSi Bimmer about 2 years ago:) (in 1:18 that is..)
Been looking at the 1:18 XD/XE Falcons. Now by my calcs Biante have done 8 Johnson Falcons, 1 for Moffat & 1 for Masterton. I'm really after a little bit more diversity here. I'd be up for the Morris 1982 Oran Park AEC Winner and the 1981 Morris/Fitz Bathurst Runner up.
There were also a number of great looking second tier cars that could also be done down the track in low numbers.
As most of the moulds for these cars have been done already & I believe that Morris is on-side with Biante hopefully we could see at least one of these in 2009?

Yeh there were a few more being the BBQ's Gallore pair plus a Yellow Dickson one I think.
That I guess answers it though david5.
I still don't really understand all this licensing stuff though. I would love to understand more. Bowden obviously does not own the 9 Sports logo, nor Bartlett's name. He also does not own Chev (going cheap though). Yes he might own the car now, yet I can't see how he could determine who produces it as a model. Sure he could not allow one of the manufacturers access to measure it up, but that would be it.
I'd assume that when Bowden or whoever buys one of these classics, they buy the car & not every god given right that may come with it.

Now that the 1:18 Autoart 1980 Alfa GTV has been released (http://www.biante.com.au/product_19958.htm), the base is there for a whole range of 1977 - 1985 Alfa GTV's from Bathurst and the ATCC that Biante could be released.
Being realistic I don't think there is enough interest for most of them to be commercially viable, with the possible exception of the Bond's 1985 "IGNIS" GTV6. Is there enough interest here for the Bathurst version ? :

Biante wouldn't sell thousands, but if they are prepared to do 1,008 pieces of the GIO Skyline perhaps they'd do 1,000 or so of the above.
Edit : I should add that Bond finished 6th in the ATCC Championship with this car in 1985 (including two 4th placed finishes towards the end of the season), so while it might not have been a V8 it was still very competitive.

3 Camaro Group C cars that raced between 79 and 84
1 for Kev Bartlett raced also by Tesoriero and Tindall Bathurst 84
2 for Ron Dickson raced in Avco Finance, BBQ Galore colours to name a few... Alan Jones having a run along with Graham Moore to name a few..... As well as American's like Sam Posey and Dick Barbour....
Both Ron Dickson cars eventually sold to the late Mike Burgmann, 1 car appearing in Blue and Silver.... wrecked at Oran Park 83 ATCC round....
Other car purchased from Dicko and ran with Longhurst @ Bathurst 83 in Yellow with i think Dreamworld? sponsorship.....
Sold to Bryan Thomson and ran with John Mann in 84 Edition of the Great Race....

Oops....before I'm correct the #75 Alfa was from Bathurst in 1986 not 1985, where the car was a DNF.
Here's the 1985 car, where it finished 8th at Bathurst, 5 laps down on the leaders.

The 1985 car was more successful, the 1986 car looked more striking. If Biante were going to produce one, which one should it be ?

According to a post on the Ten-Tenth forum it was the same car :
- Built 1984 as a Group E Production racer for Colin Bond
- Converted to Group A for Bathurst 84, and used by Bond in the 1985 ATCC (in yellow livery)
- Sold to Sydney exotic car specialists 'The Toy Shop' prior to the end of the 1985 ATCC (in plain white livery). Used by Greg Hansford at the Oran Park ATCC finale, then driven by Allan Grice a few weeks later at the first Endurance Series race, the "Better Brakes 300" at Amaroo Park.
- Bond then borrowed the car back for the Adelaide AGP support race at the end of 1985, as the Luigi car had been written off the weekend before at Surfers.
- Reappeared as Network Alfa's 2nd car for Bathurst 86, (in blue 'Pye' colours) for car owner Warwick Rooklyn and Lucio Cesario.

Now that the 1:18 Autoart 1980 Alfa GTV has been released (http://www.biante.com.au/product_19958.htm), the base is there for a whole range of 1977 - 1985 Alfa GTV's from Bathurst and the ATCC that Biante could be released.

LOL ya nut.....
As for the XD's i wonder if a white version would be of interest?
Absolutely. I really hope that biante do cleanskins of these..
The Army reserve car would make a very striking model indeed. Would be popular just based on the livery alone.
I reckon that biante would almost have to get a crack at this one Pleeeease. Bearing in mind that it would be a very time consuming not to mention expensive exercise to paint this livery. After seeing the job cc did on the red dust i'd hate to see the same happen to such an intriguing car. When you think about it each colour or even each blotch would have to nearly be done singularly just to get it looking authentic which means each model would be more or less a work of art in itself. I dare say we'll be waiting for the economy to recover a little before they try this one.. Sooooo can't wait.

Sure, and you can go back another 15 years before that to the various 105 series GTA coupes (or even the 105 series sedans) that did so well at the Sandown 6 hour races in the mid 1960's as well :
http://www.autopics.com.au/images/66042.jpg
Minichamps and AutoArt have the basic moulds for both, but if Biante were only going to produce one Australian Alfa Romeo I figured the '85 - '86 Bond GTV6 was the one that would be most likely to sell in an economic quantity.

Do we have to have a whole list of want's for Sandown? What about Clipsal 500 or Phillip Island Winners? Not saying that I want either of these variations, just that it can really get out of hand when you think about it.
Guys, Is it confirmed that the Bright/Winterbottom Sandown winner was done? I know the 2006 Bright "season car" was done.
As far as model collecting getting out of hand, to late for me but I'm not complaining. There are nearly 40 cars above & I certainly would not buy them all, particularly when they are only such a slight variation to an existing Bathurst winner, ATCC winner (ie 1983 Moff RX7, 1984 VK, 1996 HRT) etc.
Personal preference, but I would rather have the 1981 Brock Sandown winner vs. 1981 Brock Bathurst 21st place. Same also applies to the 1995 DJR car. I know guys would prefer it the other way & that's fine.

I doubt that they would as they've got a little more class and respect for the drivers than to rip them off like that ;)
Think between Biante & CC there have been plenty of XW/XY GTHO’s over the last couple of years along with a number of Toranas. Been some time since the last Monaro touring car.
I’m looking for 1:18’s of:
