View Full Version : Classic Australian Tour Car Race DVD's. What's Next?
Guys,
Does anyone out there know or could find out what we will see in upcoming releases? These are great products & would love to know what Chevron has in their library or what they have access to?
Thanks

So Chevron are the "Duke Video" of Australia.....
How well have the Classic Australian Touring Car Races DVDs been selling? Is it a big money spinner for them to remove it from ABC2?

I would of thought from Chevron's point of view it would of been better to get them on the air than not, as judging from the sound/vision quality (more the lack of it) of previous Chevron DVD's, I won't be buying....Had I viewed the footage on free-to-air, then I might of been persuaded to change my opinion & give them a 2nd chance.

Two things to consider -
The show Late Night Legends has not returned to TV showing any of the sports they used to show. Therefore how can it be said that their deal with Chevron has removed the possibility of seeing the races on TV?
All of the Classic Aust. Touring Car Races DVD contain excellent quality footage taking into account the technology available at the time. Remember a live sports broadcast from the sixties or seventies was only meant to go to air once and certainly never intended for broadcast on a 42 inch Plasma TV.
Overall, with the exception of Volume 2, I have enjoyed the series even though I already had a number of the races already. Seeing them in original broadcast quality (warts and all) has been a delight.

I have Volumes 3,5, and 6 and am very impressed with the quality of the footage - esp the 80's Group C races. It is fantastic for its time. well worth the money I think.
The green Bathurst DVD's of the old highlight tapes are not so good - look to be taken from VHS copies not an original master. Still it helps give the races a feel for the time when they took place.
Not a bad list as per the link posted by gab73. From what has been released & what will come in time, there is a crying gap of the years 1974-1982 as far as ATCC & AEC goes. It would be a shame if this footage is gone for ever. I cant remember back that far but surely ABC must have telecast some it & these will be unearthed in time. Can only hope.

Late Night Legends ran for at least 1 year with no Motorsport. At the time there was a forum on ABC2 with many people complaining about no motorsport been shown but fell on deaf ears.
