V8 Supercar Tipping Comp

[Oh Five]

Hi guys. Just opened up a tipping league for the supercar tipping comp on their website. If any of you want to join could you PM me your email and I'll send the "invite". You can enter on your own or into 4 different leagues, so if you join my Biante one you wont be confined to just that one.


Tipping format

The V8 Supercars Tipping season comprises of 14 "Tipping Weeks"
All Tipping Weeks are made up of two Races, except Phillip Island and Bathurst weeks
Phillip Island and Bathurst weeks will only have one Race in their Tipping Weeks
Tipsters need to select the following in each Tipping Week:
Pole position
Tipsters need to select the following in each Race:

Race Winner
Top 3 Teams (in any order) [this is not placings, it is top 3 (unique) teams]
Top 5 Drivers (in any order)
Bonus Points at start of competition:

Team Championship Winner
Driver Championship Winner
NOTE: The Bonus Points will close after Week 5 of the Comp.
Discriminator:

Fastest lap time in the first Race of the Tipping Week
NOTE: No points are awarded for this entry, it is used as a Discriminator only
Points allocation

Pole Position - 5 points
Race Winner - 10 points
Top 3 Teams (in any order) - 1 point (per correct selection)
Top 5 Teams (in any order) - 1 point (per correct selection)
Team championship winner - Sliding scale*
Driver championship winner - Sliding scale*
The "sliding scale" scoring mechanism allocates points to a Tipster based on the Week they make their selection:
Week 1 - 10 points
Week 2 - 8 points
Week 3 - 6 points
Week 4 - 4 points
Week 5 - 2 points
NOTE: Once you save your selections, you can NOT re-submit your selections once the Week has Closed for Tipping; so please be sure you want to submit your Tips in the Week you select to do so.
Bonus Points close after Week 5
Bonus Points are scored at the end of Week 14 and added to a Tipster's total scoreWeekly Tip cut-offs

Tipping will close 1-hour before the first qualifying race in each Tipping Week 14Discriminator

In the event that two or more Tipsters are tied in a Week, a Discriminator selection will be used to rank Tipsters
Tipsters will be asked to enter the fastest lap time for the first Race of each Tipping Week to 3 decimal places (ie. 1/1000ths of a second)
The Tipster who selects closest to the actual fastest lap time, without going over, wins
If there are still two or more Tipsters tied using the Discriminator, the Weekly Winner will be determined as whoever submitted their Tips first for that Tipping Week

Actually, Tander said in the Clipsal program that the lap times should stay about the same as the Victoria park section of the track has been resurfaced and is offering more grip, even thought turn 8 will be about 20km/h slower.

Who is the general_2.... He had a good round 10th to 2nd.

The General_2 is a mate of mine who I work with and I asked him to join the comp, wish I hadn't now because he is giving it to me at the moment!!!

Not only did he go from 10th to 2nd in our comp, but he went from 4,500ish overall to 575th. Talk about a massive jump in one week. Jason also scored 34 for the round and the highest point scorer was 4 guys on 35 points, so he was 1 point off the highest score of the round and in line for a prize. He picked Tander for the pole, first race and then Whincup for the 2nd race - nailed it.

If you read this Jason - there are plenty of rounds to come back - I aint laying over yet.

I actually got most of my 1st race tips correct, but 2nd race not so good as i dont think alot of people would have went for the people that finsihed in the top 5 in race 2

Well The General is streaking us now, another 18 points this week and highest in our comp. He currently is sitting in 11th spot in the total rankings of 9000 tipsters. He is 18 odd points off the lead score, so still has a chance to get to the top and win a prize. And to make things worse he had Tander for pole so was a couple hundreths off another 10 points!!

I think everyone was still playing because there were points scored by everyone, if they were not playing then there would have been a few zeros in the scorecards. I know I went for a few risks in the last rounds to try and get in the top 10, but sadly failed.

Always next year.

BTW - I work with The General and he was happy about the win. He played it safe and took Tander Tander and Tander for pole, race 1 and 2. He was hoping to get one 10 pointer up and he did, so he cleared out in the end. Worst part for me is I have to hear about it every day!!

Generally you pick:
- Poll Sitter
- Race 1 Winner
- Top 3 teams or drivers

- Race 2 Winner
- Top 3 teams or drivers

I've set up a team tipping comp on the v8supercars website and its free for anyone who wants to join. I've stolen the name that Bruce used last year just to make it easier. (i hope thats ok).
See pg 1 of this thread for the rules - slightly different though due to the extra rounds. First round is this coming WEEKEND! So make sure your tips for round 1 are in before then.
Re team and driver champ winner - you can get those in at a later date (10pts if its in by round 1, 8 by round 2, 6 by round 3 and so on) - or something like that.

Once you've confirmed registration and have logged in, go to

Thomas - join up and get in on it, there is no limit to how many players are in a comp, so the more the merrier.

P.S Boys The General when reapplying for a log in did not realise that when it asked for the name at the beginning he could put his alias in, so he is now called Jason Cam this year, so don't be fooled by the new name!!

Sorry to everyone who's having trouble registering and logging in. We probably should have looked at using a different server and not the v8supercars based one. Last years site was very easy to use and access but this years is absolutely shocking. Hopefully they'll iron out the bugs - but we probably shouldnt get our hopes up too much

Thomas, this pick is mainly for bonus points at the end of the season, just another tip where you can score points. I think its 10 points for the team and 10 points for the driver, so if you bag both you may jump up the ladder substantially.

Well points should be in by lunch today, will be interesting to see how everyone goes. Who would have thought HRT would bomb out and Triple 8 clean sweep it (myabe someone did!!)

I know the Geneals tips and everyone will be glad to know I dont think he will hit double figures for round 1, so the defending champ is off to a bad start :D

Hey General reminder that not only are we tipping for pride of taking out the Biante comp, but there are serious prizes on offer each round. If you can not take out the major prize you are still in it each round for the round prize. The site actually states that there are only 1727 tipsters, Biante Boys are 25 of that. Very interesting to note only 1700 tipsters this year in total, last year over 9,000. Maybe because the comp started so late and was so difficult to join is the reason for the low numbers. Anyway better chance of hitting the prizes.

Yes 100% correct, he is a mate from my work who was a ring in last year and he flogged us all, and didn't I hear about it for weeks!!!!!

In saying that he has been squeeling like a pig in the last 2 days with his current form and in true Aussie style the rest of the boys from work are joining me in giving him stick. Just hope he does not pick his game up otherwise I will hear about it :D
