New Year - New Poll.
I don't think this has been done before but I was curious as to which scale people collect.

The 1:18 scale is around $140 - $180 delivered from BIANTE.
The 1:43 scale is around $60 delivered from BIANTE.
The 1:64 scale is around $20 delivered from BIANTE.

I know some people can afford all scales :) but some of us can only get a certain scale. Road or Race doesn't matter, just which scale, now that BIANTE seem to be releasing alot more cars in 1:43 and 1:64 (old monaros are in Production Planned mode, so there could be a few more) scales.

My main scale is 1:18 with limited 1:43's and 1:64's.

From when I first started this hobby, 1/18 always looked the ideal scale for a replica diecast to be.
I find anything smaller non appealing. They look good, but to small to me.

I personally prefer the 1:43 as I can afford more and thereby obtain a greater variety of cars. However, i do admit that the level of detail on 1:18's are sensational.

I use 1:18th as centre piece for my 43rds, I think they complement each other but it comes down to affordability. 1:18th are absolutely fantastic with their attention to detail (Excepts horns), but 43rds give you great variety in the colour range.

I know that the 18th scale is the flagship for Biante, but I hope to see the LX Torana range in 43rd with the Option 97 XC in 1:18th soon...

i collect a bit of all scales but 1:18 would be my most praised, the detail in them are awsome but like all of my models i only collect one varient, like i dont go and get the #1 and 2 hrt car and i dont buy cars of the same type just in a different colour. i do however try to get atlease one race car of each of my road cars, they look nice next to each other. but i cant wait for the 1:64s to come out, the toranas, Monaros, utes, i cant wait.

With more Bathurst winners in 1:18, more 1:43s and ALOT more 1:64 road cars plus the odd race car(from the old days) being released by Biante and some news that there will be some interesting developments in the 1:43 scale(already seeing some Bathurst winners produced), I was wondering if anyone has changed their minds in scaling down to the 1:43s/1:64s or scaling up to the 1:18s?

Plus its a good reason to get this thread going again with so many new members joining :)

I collect some of all three scales. With so monay great cars starting to come out I am finding that I am just buying what I like in whatever scale the model happens to be made in.

1:18 are probably 1st choice due to the excellent detail. When the funds aren't there I settle for 1:43

This is sometimes very hard to do.

Will try and get all of the Holden 1:64's Great little models.

1:18 for me, except for 1 1:43 of Team kiwi which is about to get relegated when the 1:18 finally turns up.

Two yr old son has 3 1:64's minus the spoliers (don't tell any collectors)!!!

Mainly 1:43 for me but I have tended to buy more 1:18's lately as I love the detail. Need more cabinets!!!

I even have some 1:64 but am very selective about this scale. Will perhaps buy some of the new ones coming out like Bond & Brock.

Hey Kiwiracing, your son didn't chew the spoilers off did he:D

1:43 are the preferred scale, affordable and compact. 1:18 for those 'special' cars eg Brock Bathurst winners, Lowndes Bathurst winners, classic road cars (still waiting for the anouncement from Biante of the 1:18 EH). 1:64 for the little tacker (2yo). As with Kiwiracings son, he removes the rear spoiler within 5 minutes of opening the packet...and Timbo, no chewing necessary...:D

I like to collect the 1/18's purely for its historical significance and signed certs...not to mention the detail.

The 1/43's are great if you do not wish to have a particular vehicle at the expense and would like it in the collection as a fill in between years and or manufacturer...I have a bit of both.

What I call my 'hero' cars are in 1:18, like Brock's 28C, Moffat's GTHO's and a couple of his XB's, Johnson's True Blue and Green's Tuf (the one he destroyed), the Winfiel' Nissan etc etc, Ayrton Senna Collection complete with offensive advertising!! Only bought one road car in 1:18, Nissan Skyline GTR V-Spec II, a definite Hero.
All my road cars are 1:43 as is the remainder of my F1 collection.
It all boils down to $$$'s, space and avoiding a divorce settlement!!!

All my Brock cars except for the 2002 VX bathurst which I have in all scales, are 1:18 and I have a HG (indy orange), silver CV8 and a few HRT in 1:18. Have a couple of others in 1:64 but I'll stay with da big ones please.:D

The 1:43s are passable, the 1:64s are microscopic (smaller than Matchbox cars)

I will stick to 1:18 (and bigger).

Leigh

Matchbox cars are 1:64

Yeah, they vary though... I have seen odd scales like 1:56 as well...

The 1:43 scale is the traditional collectors' scale, while the 1:18 is for those who prefer something more substantial.

I'm not quite sure where the demand for the 1:64 scale arose from. The cars are serioulsy tiny.

I agree, Matchbox do have some weird scales to make the cars the same size, but in general they are 1:64.

As I implied above, the 1:64 are great for kids, and keeps them away from my 1:43 and 1:18 models. The tyke is proud as punch having the same model cars as Dad, even if they are a wee bit smaller...

I remember the craze in the late 80's early 90's of Micro Machines. You could park them with ALL 4 wheels on a single 10c piece...now they were seriously small...:D

Shhhhhhhh!

Don't compare them to toys.. You will have a whole bunch of grown men (who admitedly collect 1:64s) get all worked up and upset.

The 1/43rd scale is the main cars that I collect have been collecting them for a while now. Only Australian cars both road and race versions.
Also have some 1/18 that I like "Brock" Bathurst Winners etc for the greater detail.;)

1/43 for me. Space, price & convenience of display. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there more diversity & therefore choice in 1/43?

Started out in 1:43 with the Dick Johnson Sierra's back in that late '80 & ever since I've been trying to get a 1:43 Falcon of each model ever made. Usually a road car & a race car.

Then Biante started out the Dick Johnson collection & considering he's my childhoon hero, I just got to have them all, so I'm now getting some 1:18 as well !!!

Oh & those minicars are too bad either.

I just hope the bank balance can handle this obsesion.

cheers.:)
