View Full Version : CV8 Monaro gets destoyed by fire
A Family man with 2 young children had just exited his CV8 Monaro, walked away from the car,got to the door, turned around and saw the engine bay of his Monaro burst into flames and destoy the car.The engine had only done 5000kms.
On contacting Holden and reassuring them that no one else had been contacted about the fire,Holden immediatly sent a truck out with a HSV GTS Coupe on the back in exchange for his burnt out vehicale-no questions asked.
Another Chev V8 misfire.

B**l S**t, Why would Holden give away a HSV in place of a CV8, Do you mean it was a loner?
Engine bay fires in Holdens with Chev V8 engines a do happen,it's a well known problem the happens in the States and it has happen in Australia a few times.
Holden gave this guy a HSV GTS coupe so he wouldn't tell(simply to shut him up) insurance companys etc.
I got this story from one of my dads workmates, this happened to thier neighbour.
A CV8 would be worth about $50 000,so this guy lost Holden about 40 grand.

I agree with Aussiecollector. Sounds like a 'my mates neighbours work mates uncles friends' type of story to me. Why would Holden give away a HSV GTS coupe. They are seperate companies so the HSV isn't theirs to give away.

What a load of crap,SWRT you are so full of it.I notice that alot of your posts are negative about holdens. Is that the best you can do,what about the EF Ford Falcon(ex taxi-lpg) that blew up in a coles carpark on a thursday evening in Victoria and killed the driver and about 40 shoppers.Ford gave him a brand new BA XR6 turbo, and told him to keep quite about it.:)

If the GTS was to shut up the fathers, work mates, neighbour, then how did the story end up here, there are plenty of Holden employees & Holden associates who are on this forum so I guess the "jig is up" and the ex gratia letter that the guy would have signed has been breached and Holden should be pulling up in the tray truck to take back the GTS any day now.

This story about the fire is rubbish, a typical urban myth. Not
even worth talking about!

Sounds to me like the story I heard the other day...A P plater bought the second BA off of the production line (apparently by chance)that was also a V8 (unlikely), which, on insistance of the dealer, must be thrashed and returned to ford every 6 weeks for "new experimental parts" to be fitted for testing!!! (Gave me a good laugh)
Imagine if this were true, and it got out to the media...
How much deeper can the B.S. get!!!
How 'bout everybody post the most outragous B.S. that they have heard about the latest cars, if not anything else it could be amusing...(including the one about "my $95K HSV has spat out 3 V8's and is close to its 4th AND I don't thrash it...honest ;) ..."

Someone told me once that his brother ( a man in a blue uniform) told him that all pursuit cars in WA went thru a place in Midland (on the outskirts of Perth) where all sorts of hi-po parts were fitted so that they were a bit faster than standard. And to top it off the parts were all removed before sale to the public.LOL,LOL,LOL.
Some guys really need two hands.:D

Well not always - my brother was told of a undercover cop car that went into a workshop for a set of "special performance parts", but another bloke took his identical model in for a service and the mechanics got the cars mixed up. So this guy, thinking he'd just had an oil change, found he had twice as much power as before and superb racetrack handling. Could happen....

I'm sure that people can read their vehicles number plate and I doubt that they had the same key ring.....sounds as bad as the father mother sister uncle story.

Yes, that was my point - I was being sarcastic!
Going through some old Motor/Wheels mags I saw a story about a VT cop car that got infernoed because of a electric seat problem, nothing to do with engines.

Maybe if my 1/10th scale petrol powered remote control Monaro was to catch fire, HSV will replace it with the real mc'coy, i'd even settle for a cv6:)

I've spoken to a couple of mechanics and they both tell me that the new holden V8 is having a lot of probs. Biggest one I've heard is bearing seizure. Chev in the states has had the same prob but won't admit it and now holden here is getting it. Not realy holdens fault, what can you do when the parent company says use it, there's nothing wrong with it. Do car companies sometimes replace a car with a better car to keep the customer happy and quiet? I don't know. I do know car companies have these little geeks working for them that tell them that a faulty production part is worth so many deaths before it is required to recall the vehicles. Anyone hear remember the Ford, Firestone battle in the states. A lot of people have come out of the wood work over there now and are spilling their guts as to what goes on. I'll stick to my 70s classic.
