View Full Version : XC Cobra 25th anniversary Bathurst celebrations
I saw a poster in Sherrifs mini cars promoting a XC Cobra 25th anniversary event being held at Bathurst,September 22-24.
I wonder if Nick Short would come to it.
Also what are the differences between normal XC Cobra and XC Cobra option 97 pack?

Hi SWRT,
I have been invited, but I may be trogging over Scottish mountains making maps, which isn't my favoured choice! Ideally, if I could make it, I would take 257 as well, but I think my wife might regard that as a bit extravagant!
From a model point of view, the differences between the Cobra (Option 96) and Bathurst Cobra (Option 97) would be a deeper front spoiler, bonnet scoop with circular hole underneath for induction, twin electric fans, shock tower brace and black Scheel seats. I don't know whether any of the other differences would be big enough to model...
Oh yes, I forgot the oil cooler behind the grille!
Are you thinking of bring your Bathurst Cobra over as well?
I might be expensive to fly it out here to Australia.
Any word if Jackie Ickx is coming along to it?
He probably hasn't seen Moffat for years.

257 isn't a Bathurst Cobra, but a modified car, produced by the first owner who wanted something a bit more poky, and thankfully did it using proper Ford parts. Of course I'd love a Bathurst Option 97, but they're a bit thin on the ground....257 will have to do for now!
I have no idea about Jacky Ickx - I haven't had much success contacting him via several addresses, but he does attend various classic car events, so maybe would go to Bathurst. Of course the '77 and '78 drives were only minor events in his career - at the time he was an F1 driver, sportscar driver, rally driver and CanAm driver, winning the CanAm championship in '79, and going on to win Le Mans a record number of times, plus the Paris-Dakar rally for Porsche!
And you might be right about Petter Solberg!

That is right, according to this guy who has a picture of the yet-to-be-produced Bathurst Cobra and a description that says it is "Extremely rare to find as this model is long out of production."
Here is the link (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3122690994) for all you people that just have to have one... NOT

I was looking at the Falocn Cobra Car club webiste and it shows the gathering in Melbourne on the 12th-14th of September 2003. Are they going to have 2 showings or just 1?

I was just lumping together everything that bit me last time I was working up there - clouds of midges, horseflies the size of sparrows, and sandflies (I think). And now it seems I have werewolves to worry about....
As for the model Cobra for sale on eBay, I reckon he's just not got a digital camera and so used a picture off the Biante website, even though it's not the right car. I'd like to think it wasn't any attempt to pass the model off as an Option 97.

There were approx 30 - 40 XC Cobras on display at Sandown raceway - 14th September 2003.
They did a lap of honour prior to the Sandown 500.
What a sight.... Truly remarkable....
I have 8 photos, hopefully Admin will approve them, because none of yesterday's photos have been published yet.
I don't know why, maybe admin hasn't seen them yet.. I hope that is the answer.

50 Cobra’s in attendance.
There was a Cobra ute made as a promotional unit along with a Transit Van. I also have a magazine with a replica Cobra ute in it. From memory it was an XA that a signwriter did up for his business.

Great photos.
Notice how the width of the stripes varies on the cars, especially noticeable in the head on shots.
All the best

Ford in the Loop , here in W.A.(YARLOOP) was a success and the turnout was sensational. I guess aprox 130 odd cars if not more.
There was only 1 COBRA, and also not that many XA/BC Coupe's.
Rows and rows of X/R/W/Y's and all interesting.
The day was organised by the retired state manager of CLARION who is a car enthusiast , with his Lady.
The amount of people was amazing for such a small and out of the way village. All proceeds went to the Bustfire brigade and the like.
an even bigger day is planned for halfway April wit ANY make and model welcome.
I did enjoy it.

Thanks so much for the excellent photos, Wayne! It must have been incredible. I never knew that the stripes were different widths.
I do have one question, though. Was it really cold that day or do you guys don coats and hats in anything below 13C? :D
Come on over to Ohio in a few months. I can guarantee you there won't be any wildfires. Better bring that coat, though.

This picture and article was in the Melbourne Herald Sun - Car Section - on Friday 19th Sep.
It appears that there were approx 50 Cobras at Ford Headquarters, Broadmeadows on Saturday before Sunday's Sandown round.
Wait for Admin to approve the picture....
