Hello All,

As a follower of Fords racing at Bathurst it would appear that Murray Carter was one of the great supporters and racers of the cars. Does anyone have any information about him, where he is now, who he raced for, and how he is doing ?

He seems to have been particularily faithful to Ford during the lean coupe years, and it would be nice to know a little about him and hope that he is doing well.

My apologies if this veers a little from model talk.

All the best
Sandy (in Scotland)

Murray is doing well & was at the 24 hour race at bathurst.
He still races & was driving a corvette. Last time I spoke to him he was still planning on driving this year but Im not sure if thats still the case. If I hear any more Ill let you know.

www.topgear.com.au sell Murray Carter Bathurst 1978 3rd place models in 1/43.
I caught up with Murray at the Bathurst 24 hour and Murray was there to see PROCAR so he can get his Chev Corvette eligable/make it competitive for the 2003 Nations cup.
He last raced his Chev Corvette in the 2000 Nations cup before it became uncompetitive quickly.

Sandy,

Murray Carter Motors is still located in Bay Rd, Cheltenham, Victoria over the road from the Southland Shopping complex.

His racecar transporter is always parked nearby.

I haven't personally seen him for years, but during the mid 70s he used to tune my Ford XB GT Coupe. That was the time when Murray was racing the XB no 18. A magic car.

I can vouch for the 1/43 XC Coupe. While it's not up to Biante standards, it's one of Trax' better efforts. Always admired Murray, along with Janson, Grice, Miedecke etc.

Many thanks to you all for the replies.

I am glad that he is still well and racing too. None of my Bathurst tapes seem to go by without a mention of Murray, and he appears a lot in my old Chevron book about 'The Great Race'.

Best of luck to him in the future.

I haven't really been in Melbourne since early 80s, I used to love visiting his workshop (Phase Auto's used to share the same workshop) Murray Carter and Bob McWilliam - two of the nicest people you could ever speak to and always had time for a visit and a chat.
I was last there when Murray was racing the RX7 and there was heaps of racing XD/XE Falcon parts around. It wouldn't surprise me if some were still there!

Cheers

Speaking of XD/XE racing Ford parts, his Brian Wood Racing XC hardtops, and his Brian Wood Consulting sponsored XD would be excellent additions to the Biante range.....!!

I also think Murray Carter's XC/XD/XE Falcons would make great models. The major tooling for these models has already been done, so could Biante maybe look at some limited edition runs of these cars?

I'd also like to see the Army Reserve XD, or the King George Tavern Falcons!!

I remember seeing his Xc race at Sandown just before Bathurst. It has to be one of the best looking racing XC'c EVER. Trax has donne a poor version of it in 1:43.

Trevor - you gotta do this one!!!!
