Hey Brad, 99% of us on here appreciate what the mods do.
It may be a thankless job but people still notice that the mods still do a heap of stuff behind the scenes that we dont ever get to see.
Cheers
James
The way i see it is that Brchi17 is a collector that has every right to say what he wants. A moderators job is to keep thing cival not to bite his tounge when he feels the need to comment. I would never buy a model of a few shops hear that have commented here. I could go on but I dead set could not be bothered

Tell you one thing that gives me the squirts, In the past, I've heard retailers saying "Oh these go for $xxx on eBay" Case in point was the 60th when they were going for $500. Funny how I dont hear about what the Tuxedo A9X is worth on eBay when buying one of those. Whether or not its relevant to this thread I don't know. I think most of us only say what suits us and when hey?

Such a defensive back-peddling post compared to your previous one Mark.
I don't mind retailers having an opinion at all, encourage it infact, but apparently I am not allowed to have a differing opinion? That is where you will draw me in everytime.
It was a long time ago now, but when I was looking for a new retailer, you were recommended, however you told me over the phone that you did not have a particular model in stock...had you provided that one model you would have landed my business...funnily enough I know somebody who bought that exact model the very next day from you. Dishonesty is what got you on my blacklist.
Prior to that I had ordered and purchased one model off of you...
Maybe I'm on the blacklist circulated between retailers for having differing opinions? Should be easy to find me then...
Leigh, can't really see where I have back peddaled, just defending my business that you yourself have stated you badmouth at every oportunity you get.
As far as you not being allowed to have an opinion, well I didn't know you from a bar of soap until you started jumping down my throat for having an opinion (check your posts).
As for the transaction you mention well I really have no idea even which car you are on about or even which year (more info please) but there could be many reasons for this happening.
Senario A:
Have you considered that between your phone call and your friends phone call the day after one might have become available due to a cancellation.
Senario B:
I might have had 1 or 2 left that were only available to one of my regulars, was your friend a regular customer of mine.
In a case like this my regulars really appreciate when they forgot to pre-order a car and I still have one available to them only because they support my business and it is a 2 way street between retailers and regulars.
Sometimes its is easier to say "sorry sold out" than to say "yes I have 2 left however you can't have one as they are put aside in case one of my regulars forgot to order and will be available in 2 weeks if no-one takes them"
If this guy was not a regular well you would have to ask yourself why I would say sold out to you but not to him and consider that senario A is probably your answer.
You would not be on my blacklists for having an opinion, the only way you would be on there was if you were a habitual canceller of pre-orders or if your very first pre-order turned to crap as in this case I consider if a new customer duds me on their very first pre-order then we are definately on a road to nowhere.
This below is off topic a bit and not in reply to Leigh but relevent to the thread in general:
In the case of many requests for a pre-order on the recent Winterbottom Cobra my first question was "do you buy your models from me", if the answer was no then my answer was "sorry these are only for available for pre-order to my regular customers"
I can't see a problem with this as their was no way I was going to be able to even go close to covering my regulars on this one however I am sure my regulars are happy with this policy as it gives them the best chance I can to secure these rarer models.

Unfortunately this is the risk we as retailers take by commenting on these forums however I would think that many collectors like hearing the retailers point of view every now and again even if they don't always agree with what we think.

Exactly who cares what models are going for on Ebay! Ebay is a good place to buy hard to find models. Model shops buy these models at cost from Classic, Biante etc for a fraction of the price? I would love to know the retail mark up.........a few years ago I bought a Biante Model. The RRP was $185 but as the model was not selling the model shop was selling them at cost $99 (well that's what they were saying).
So my question would be how much did they actually pay for the model if they were selling it for $99 may be $79??? If that's the case then the mark up would've been just over $100..
And yes yes I know that they have expenses like rent, wages etc..................

I *think* wholesale price is around $125 for items with rrp of $215-might be slightly higher now? I imagine it'll be a lot higher for cc's products with rrp of $240.

What model was it? I may be able to fill in some gaps ;)
I think if the models are sold at $99, Biante may have reduced the wholesale cost.
I recall CC sold to some retailers some of the crappy 1/18 V8SC that didnt sell (2002 AUs of Cam McLean, Paul Weel and Steve Ellery, 2005 Ritter and Ellery) to sell off for $60. Not to mention Biante retailers selling off some 1/18 BA Falcon FPV/XR6 utes/sedans for $60.

Thanks mate ;)
and to honestly answer the question, how do model shops sell items....
I get a delivery..... Enter the product into the computer.... In a perfect world id put 50% mark up on it... However due to various circumstances including amount of releases in that period of time, popularity etc it could end up being anything between 35% to 45% mark up in relation to pricing on ticket or my website..... Send a sms or call those who pre ordered and then hope for the best on the rest ;)
I just wish i could buy them @ $99 and sell them at $185 as that would be about 85% mark up, that would be impressive :D
