All I can say is - Absolutely amazing !! .. The races are a small part of the overall events on in Monterey for almost a week - 3 major classic car auctions, fairs, car shows, races, and the Pebble Beach Concours D'elegance ... Its actually hard to get around to see everything as a lot of stuff overlaps. I would recommend this event to anybody and I am already planning to go back next year !! Per the other thread about the 250TR that crashed - it is amazing to see these mega dollar cars being punted around a racetrack and yes they do get driven properly !!

I managed to get to the auction previews and then spent the rest of my time at the racetrack !! .... You can spend hours and hours in the pits, then there is the market alley with books, art, diecast cars, apparel and just about anything to do with a racecar !! ... Pete Brock was signing 1:18 BRE Datto's .. other guys signing autographs were George Follmer, Vic Elford, Brian Redman and Derek Bell. I got to meet Vic and Christi Edelbrock which for me was pretty cool.

The featured marque of the event was Porsche so everything was pitched to the Porsche fans and I reckon there was conservatively 1500 porsche road cars in the carpark !!

Anyway - here are some photo's - starting with a couple of auction cars ...

Here's a link to all the photo's I took - over 600 ! and sorry Brad but some are out of focus as I only have a Sony point and shoot camera and I'm not much of a photographer ! :D

For Mal and RR72

Love the Corvette, Warwick Henderson had a similar looking beast to that in the 80s, did'nt run much in the GT/Sports Sedan Class.... Think it later ran a few Historic meets...

Oh sir, all I can say is wow, feel in love with the 69 Camaro photos, thanks a bunch for that, also nice GT 350? (Yeah and the old P-car ;) ) in the background which I feel Mal would of had a wander over to.

But then the rest of the photos you posted, the history of Le mans porsches, Short tail 956! yum
A Dan Gurney Stang, Penske's Sunco cars even the Martini Porker!

Thank so much for sharing, how I would of loved to be there and learnt a whole bunch of stuff I never knew about!

They really did race these. Marshall Teague had a lot of success with a Hudson Hornet, prepared by Smokey Yunick. They even really said 'Fabulous Hudson Hornet' down the sides - just the eyes are an add-on! http://prekladys.blog.auto.cz/files/2009/03/2005-11-2_marshallteagueweb-large.jpg

Fantastic photos - how I wish I could have been there - must be absolutely brilliant. Three AC Cobras together - all those fantastic Can-Am and LeMans cars and a Scarab. Anyone interested in cars of this age should read Burt Levy's books - you can get them from www.lastopenroad.com - great novels set in the 50s and 60s about racing.

And Rusty French was there with his cars - good to see Australia represented.

Bruce, I did not think they had the nascar boot spoiler with bracing, modern wheels etc though. This is from the Cars movie. They built a few for advertising purposes. If you go into Bill's album, there is another in there. Also I spied a Fast & furious car the RR72 would love.

Bill, you have some pearlers in your album. I know I would have been arrested for excessive drooling if I had been there.

Buffalo - thank you for posting these pics.

Now I just have to wipe the drool off the keyboard....... Any pics of Pete Brock signing the 1:18 BRE 510's? Love the 917's and that Camaro was also gorgeous.

And the Mustangs. And the Maseratis. And the Ferraris.

So Bill, did you paw all over the Stang to possibly get ideas for yours?

Certainly did paw over them - its the most Shelby Mustangs I have ever seen in one spot and the first time I have seen a GT350 R Model in the flesh - and I got to see two of them ! .. ... Actually I saw a lot of cars for the first time in the flesh that I had only ever seen video, pics or diecast models of !! ..

The other amazing thing is the track itself - so many elevation changes, it goes around a hill , the corkscrew and the pit straight that goes uphill into blue sky !!

When ( not if ! ) I go back next year I will have to contact the VHRR and get some posters and flyers for the Phillip Island Historic Event to garner some interest amongst the yanks !!

Some cool incar footage from the Maeco Motorsport '63 Falcon sprint - if you look closely you can see me by the fence at the control tower on the pit straight :p ! This gives a good perspective on the track layout for anyone that has not seen it before ...

For those who love the old cars, get a towel to mop up the drool on your keyboards.

Here is a link to photos of what is called the Quail Gathering. This is on at the same time as Monterey, but is a quieter event.
