I've seen on an overseas website Trofeu have announced they will produce Dick Johnson's Sierra from Silverstone in 1988.

Not many Australian shops carry Trofeu models, so if you want one you'll probably have to order it from overseas. For those that are interested, the code is TR123.

Biante are bringing out Sierra's for the Biante Legends Series, so you never know ;)
Interesting, I would love see models of Aussie race cars that competed overseas.
On this site:
http://www.trax-models.co.uk/pdf/Touring%20Car%20Fact%20File.pdf
They will be this much:
TBA TR123 D Johnson FORD Sierra Cosworth PP - Silverstone 1988 TROFEU 43 £44.99
Hmm, I better start saving MORE for models.....

The old Trax Sierra's bear no resemblence to the Sierra's being produced by Trofeu :

I realise that, I just thought they made those old cars.

Another potentially cheaper source is www. Rally-models.com.
Andy, the owner sends me one of every Ford Trofeu produces as they are not imported here to NZ either. He specializes in code 3 rally models sourcing all the base models from Trofeu, so has an excellent relationship with them.
I'm sure most rally guys on here are aware of his products.

How do they compare to the Minichamps 1/43 Sierras.

personally i like the trofeu quality better - smaller manufacturer and on the whole less glaring defects and good overall finish

Was it Brad, or just at the time? The Sierras still had a few years of racing left before the end of GrpA. Think it was Seto who was the one with the best package come the end.

Yes Mal it was the Fastest in 1988 and you'd almost have to say DJR Sierra's were the fastest world wide for most of the Sierra era after that....I know Seto got the upper hand during the ATTC in 92, but by then Dick had moved his attention onto the EB ;)

And Seto beat him to the punch there too. Still DJR had a pretty show car. What ever became of Mr Lowe ??

I knew it ran away and made the European cars look second rate at Silverstone until the water pump (I think/vaguely remember) went bang. After it was repaired, it again posted substantially quicker times than everyone else. If I could source some decent decals, I have a spare ATCC Johnson car I would love to convert.
After getting flogged by visitors at Bathurst who also brought there own rules with them, Dick was embarresed to say the least, so he went to get them back at there own track he Qualified on pole By over 2 seconds. He was Smashing them untill the water pump.

So a 1m35.4 to 1m35.8 is a 2 second gap ;)

Must admit I always thought it was something around the 3/4 of a second mark, but I'm more than happy to remember it as 2 seconds, as we all know daylight was 2nd to Dick and JB that day :D !!!

Do you always have to use facts to spoil a good fishing story :p lmao !!!
Yeh correct. 2 seconds sounds much better though :)

As it gets closer to launch time they will upload a picture of a preproduction model to replace this fuzzy photo.

Surely it wouldnt be too hard for Biante to commission Minichamps to make this car in 1:18?
Possibly be included in the Johnson Collection?
brchi17
29-08-2009, 06:25 AM
no possibilities Craig....this car HAS to be included in the DJ collection!
With all the obscure and 1 off race cars Biante have released for other drivers in the past, this car seriously needs to be made, along with a lot of Dick's other Ford race cars that are yet to see the light of day!

I agree with you Brchi and would happily buy this in 1:18 for my DJ collection (come on Biante!)
I feel like the DJ collection is really being overlooked of late......

Step one Brad. Provide Biante with clear photos of all sides of the car. Without that, they would be just guessing. We then would complain. Not fair saying it must be made unless the above is addressed.

Obviously Trofeu haven't had any problems finding clear photos of the car. :)

Trofeu don't get a lot of things spot on. Being 1/43 they seem to gloss over some things believing that most collectors in their price range will accept it. 1/18 being bigger requires more accuracy.
And Brad, the reason the Skaife Adelaide Grand Prix Skyline was made was due in part to the photos I posted in the old race car thread. I have also been asked for photos of another car as well since a certain angle I took was the only shot they had seen of that side of the car. So, any help we can give may just be the info Biante require to progress.

Mal and I for one thank you for posting the photo so in the end Biante could make the car!
As some time there is never a photo of a side of a car you want & out of the blue (Like Mals) one turns up!

The rear end has "Dunlop" on the upper black lip, "Redcote" on the rear bootlid same height as the fuel filler, "Steel Tubing" in between the rear tail lights. and "Welded Tube Company of America" on the lower rear bar approx same position as the "Dunlop" on the pic above.

Plenty of DJ's Fords can be made....starting with the Mustangs
