To get back on the track it would have had to make itsway back to the pits under its own steam and have an engine change! It sounds like it broke the crank from what Fiore was saying so it couldnt make it to the pits under its oen steam.

We were listening to the team radio and apparently the computer shut it down due to no oil pressure. Must say it was rattling quite nicely when we hooked him up. Dean turned it off then was trying to fire t up again as we dragged him away.

Q1 Any value purchasing a reserved stand seat, albeit only an extra $30? Will use all Sat & Sun. I see from the photos that people seem to to move around a bit anyway & I don't think there is a crowd crush.
Q2 Where is the stand(s) S2 I think is what's available. Am I correct in that they are outside of track at start/finish?

Yep and they have actually taken the wall back a few metres also. There are also other run-off area works going on in the near future to suit the requirements that have been put forward by the Bikes. One of those is to increase the run-off area at the top of Lukey Heights (from the Hayshed) and as Mike mentioned earlier there are a few mounds under construction as well (outside of track between Turns 6 & 7.
There is a new shed that has been erected up behind the scruiteneering area (near the dam) for BMW, I am led to believe.
This is a good thing for motorsport in Victoria especially with the new works going on at Sandown at present as well. They are making the garages bigger (putting internal sliding doors in), extending the mound at the back of the pits by 12m (IIRC) and that is stage one at present.
Cheers
Sean

From what I have herd this is true sean and the area behind the pits is where they are going to put new garages. There is a lot of sound walls going up around the track for residents in nearby areas.

ok ill be the honest voice here
as far as the "grandstand" goes DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY from previous years ive seen the max height youll have sitting is an average persons veiw fully standing next to the stand besides there is far far better spots on the track than seeing about 500m of straight and also you have to contend with the pedestrian bridge to the pits being right next to the stand which depending what level your sitting at can completly obstruct your veiw anything past the start finish line also it is fully exposed to the elements and really looks pretty slapped together tbh
if you are driving down and will have the car you have your own movable grandstand as there are many places to park and sit in the car or be out of the car close to the action (some spots you can even see cars going about 3-4 diff directions on diff parts of the track
if you dont have your car there USUALLY there is a shuttle to and from various spots around the track but.... RING AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE RUNNING IT!!! its a long walk otherwise IVE DONE IT!!
overall your best to put that extra $30 into a pit pass use the car to ferry yourself around to diff locations and come join us usually located down at siberia
hope this helps

ps only take note of the oppisite side of the track the people closest to you in that picture are on the pit garage roofs (this is usually all coproate at supercar events)
Thanks heaps smokey dj. Have gone & bought a couple of stand tix anyway. They come with free paddock passes & a pit walk (if we're up early), hence even if we only spend a little while in them, no real loss. Hopefully an OK view of some pit stops and a big screen for a little while.
Got some Hotel accommodation on the Island that comes with a shuttle bus and looking forward to paying top $ for mid strength sponsors product, hence no car.

Are we likely to see any hybrid liveries this year?
Considering that in previous years the naming rights sponsors were on the driver as much as the car and the team; hence the main drivers sharing cars needed to have both sponsors on the one car.

Probably not, as the "main drivers" are not permitted to pair-up in the enduros this year. But a few teams may do livery variations - eg, FPR for the Falcon birthday ?

Saw on another thread that there are few heading down for this.
Got accommodation booked at the Continental Hotel on the Island, I understand that with the pub burning down, the proprietors are running the Pub from an area within the Hotel that we are staying at, so that's handy.. Close is 1am each morning, i.e. trouble, especially after a couple of long days. Understand that a few of the race teams also stay here, so never know who we might bump into.
Got some stand tix that we'll use part of the time, & plan on getting around as much of the track as possible. They came with a pit walk walk, so that could be something.
If there is a Biante forum member meet-up planned, please post details here.

But bear in mind that is Owen on a good day in a very good car, remember last years 500, he caused the terrible crash with Cam McConville. He and Whincup will be hard to beat tomorrow but I think Skaife/Lowndes will still be the team to beat come Bathurst
Any of the top 6 cars could win tomorrow and any of the top 15 could probably make the podium as well

When you say "for the history", I ask you. Where was the 1st 500 race run?
After being out on family duties this morning, I'm now watching this on delay and if someone at the track and could go and remove Matthew White from the cometary box, it would be very much appreciated...he's a ****ing tool !!!
Got to love his comment early in the race "Bargwanna's moving across the track looking for clean air" Um, no! He was slip streaming that car in front and his looking for clean air was a pass for position

Goes to show how well he can still go when he hasn't got a thousand knives in his back, and conversely how well Will Davison goes when he is the one receiving the knife treatment. HRT is looking more and more like Garth Racing Team by the minute.
J Richo did good, whats with Whincup and car failures?
Great win for Lowndes and Skaife. How weird was it though to see Skaifey in Team Vodafone overalls and hugging all the team? Haha. Who would have foreseen that a few years ago.
Shame about Whincup. This year he has either won or come absolutely nowhere. No middle ground.

He retired too early. Without the pressures of owning a team and various other HRT pressures he could stay in the top 5 easily. I'd love to see 888 move to 3 cars and recruit skaifey.
Bathurst is 1000km so anything can happen, but if they have no mechanical issues they should win.
I feel for davison. There was no chance for him today to turn his season around. He's constantly had car troubles all season.
PI is a decent track. Wish every state had one like it
Ive been saying it for yrs-I can't stand matt white. He knows nothing about v8s and don't get me started on today tonight. Lol. The only bad thing about skaifey racing is that matt white gets to do more commentary.

Very happy for Lowndes and Snoz,I'm not surprised at how good Mark was as I got a good glimpse of it at Bathurst last year when he was a absolute star.
I see Steve Owen has brought his usual 'good fortune' to car 1
Big well done to a lot of the so-called lesser drivers today particularly Andy Jones,Jack Perkins, Tim Slade and Owen Kelly.
It's a shame Ricko didn't get a podium as he drove the wheels of car 15 today and was more than backed up by a great drive by his teammate.
Not a bad race all up but a few showers would have made it more interesting.
Solid drive from the duo in car 51 and hope my man goes nuts at Bathurst again;)

Do we even know how the front splitter was broken on car 1 yet? Assuming if the two items are related, it would be very, very interesting to know which nut was behind the wheel when the damage was created, rather than simply blaming the co-driver....I thought Steve drove a good controlled race and there didn't seem to be any of his angry driver syndrome which he'd had since he stopped being a regular in the main series.

Pretty easy actually, drove to San Remo then caught the bus in, and at the end, they let the buses go 1st, so as soon as the race finished, I hopped on the bus at 5.10pm, at san Remo at 5.30pm and was back home at Cranbourne at 6.20pm, much quicker than driving to the track.

Some really interesting results once you start to look below the podium. 5th place for Slade/Perkins in the 3rd SBR car was a stunning result, so too was the #19 Webb/Russell which finished 6th and lead home the DJR team  !!! You'd almost have to include the Dumbrell/Canto car in that list until their late race racing incident with Webby they too were the leading car for their team.
Also as interesting to note as the successes are the failures, HRT being the biggest of them all, with both cars which looked lost all race long. Perhaps this year their livery change might improve their chances, as currently it looks like something needs to be changed to fire them up!

I was down at the track today and what a great day it was and the right car definetly won, was also good (but kinda new) to see Mark give most of the credit to Craig for the win, but good on him for it. Also when Andy Jones dropped the champagne to the crew it got droppd and smashed on the ground, much to the amusement of everyone. The whole race I really wondered where HRT was, while the 2 T8 cars, #15, #55 and #5 were fighting it out for the lead HRT were nowhere just ads to the dismal season they are having. On other notes drive of the race has to go to the BJR car, to have that trouble at the start and come back and get on the podium was a awesome result:cool:

Although Garth, and Cam didn't have race winning pace they brought the car home in one piece which sometimes is better than ending up in the garage with a hefty repair bill. Garth knew the car wasn't up to the task, so he just made do with what he had. 9th is better than a DNF.
Anyway I think they'll do much, much better at Bathurst.

Jamie was in the car when it broke. The way Steve was driving down the bottom of the track, he was very controlled.
As to the mud Brad, we managed to get a Manatou bogged on Friday and a worked 4wd on Saturday. They did open parts of the back straight parking inside the track on Sunday, however when we were leaving, PIMs staff were still pulling people out.

I'm with brchi & bortall - my money would be on it being between Turns 11 & 12, just a smidge before Pit In (so taken from roughly the vicinity of somewhere near the caretakers house)
To me all the clues are in the background. Admittedly it's been a couple of years since I was last at the Island, but to me that background looks like the spectator area between MG & Turn 11
If it was taken from the front straight looking back I more would expect to see the tea-trees lining the fenceline on Back Beach Road behind a much smaller spectator area (remembering an access road between the spectator bank and the trees/fence)
Plus from memory the gravel trap runs almost all the way from 11 round to the beginning of the main straight, but there's no gravel trap in the background (in front of the tyre & earth bank) of the photo, and I don't remember there being one between MG & 11 when I was last there either

Glad to see I have made you all think!!!!!
It wasn't the caretakers house (crappy spot there) but between 11 and 12 - closer to 12 and looking back up the track- almost opposite pit entry. Looking at the at the pic, MG and the MTAA bridge thing is to the right - and I know that corner a little too well.....
Ohh BTW- was taken on Saturday not raceday.......................

One of the many overshoots at turn 4. You should have the Mother car as that went down the return road that many times.

That is one ugly mother of a paint scheme, odds on then we'll see it made in scale...:sick2:
Is it just me, or were there really not very many people there?

Not just you Bruce.
A lot of the crowd who normally drive down from Melbourne for the day kept away. Being as wet as it was inside the grounds, lots did not come since they could not park against the fence etc. The blue line ceased very early this event.

I actually don't think that looks too bad, not the nicest livery but not the worst, better than the new DJR liver IMO.

Wasn't working from the bridge onwards after 7.10 as that was when we got out of the caravan park. Leaving the track about 30 minutes after the end of day, the only jam we were in was getting out of the track. Plain sailing with most not bothering to use the blue line.

Not as good as the other one that its had for the rest of the year but still better than a few other teams.

Last year I think it extended to about Bass, around the point of where the roadworks are being done.
