Judging the quality and sharpness of Inter's photo's I would look at one of them.
He uses a Nikon D80.

Have a look at a shop in Sydney NSW, called Ryda.com.au very good prices, all Australian warrenty (this is a must) and $15 freight.
Have a look at at Harvey Normans at camera in person, then buy online at Ryda and save about $200
Just dont buy a camera off evilbay, as most of these are grey import and have no Aust. factory warrenty, only return to shop warrenty.
The Canon SLR's come with the Image Stabilising lenses now which are great for long zoom photos and eliminates camera shake.

To be honest after my previous experiences with an Australian camera which required warranty work, I would have no trouble what so ever in buying a grey import (in fact my latest one is!). You're going to save a lot of $$$ and really the only thing is that it may take longer to get it repaired if it fails within the warranty period, otherwise you can just get it repaired in Oz at your own expense, which you would do with an Oz camera once it's warranty expires.
As for lens if you go for professional quality then I would see no problem in having them posted to you either. That said if you are choosing to buy a grey camera, just make sure you get one which has been imported into the country. That way you don't have to worry about the chance that customs might open your package and then charge you GST on your item/s.

If you are going to buy from overseas you can't go past B&H Photo Video (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/) for price and with the strength of the Aussie dollar at the moment you could probably save a bit of money
I bought a lens last year when the dollar was almost even for AU$1000 delivered which retails here for around $1600
