19th however, apparently the cars have to have side intrusion protection added before they hit the track and the cars are still sitting in a shed in London.
And, Brisbane airport hasn't recieved a booking for the plane that will be carriyng the cars...Yeah, they aint coming.

V8 Supercars to replace scrapped event as A1GP cars fail to show
EXCLUSIVE: NEXT week's Gold Coast Super GP has been stripped of its showcase event, with red-faced organisers to confirm this afternoon that the A1GP race will be scrapped.
It is understood that the A1GP cars still remain locked up in London, forcing Gold Coast organisers to abandon the category and turn the event into a V8 Supercar only show.
Instead of the planned two 200km races, the V8 series will instead stage four 150km races - two on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Acting Premier Andrew Fraser said yesterday the State Government would take legal action against the A1GP organisers for "tarnishing the event".

no big loss for A1 GP.
it was always a joke.... now its confirmed....
stoopid QLD govt should have played ball with the IRL series cos everyone loved the event....
Tumbo
17-10-2009, 03:49 PM
Qld gov tried to play ball w/ the IRL but due to agreements in place w/ V8SC and the requirement to shift the date it just wasn't possible for an arrangement to be sorted. End of the day IRL shafted Aust because it was easier to do that and because it became a question of contracts on both sides precluding anything other than a split occurring.
Chev_350
17-10-2009, 05:09 PM
It has been nothing short of a utter joke.
Last year they said they had an extension for the IRL cars.....Turns out they didn't.
They signed Nitro to sponsor the event, Nitro didn't pay a cent.
And this whole deal with the A1GP,
Heads should roll for this, and hopefully the event does still have a future.
Tony George doesn't control the IRL, they should try and negotiate with them again.
i remember the heydays at the Gold Coast Indy when there were Champ Cars and V8SCs.
The yanks loved the tintop cars.
Slowly it has declined....
Never know ,with QR being in danger of getting the boot and the future of the Indy track, QLD may only have Townsville left.
In my view, if it was QR or Indy, I would take Indy anyday!!!
I wonder where this leaves Alan Jones because I think he invested pretty heavily in the concept of A1 GP?

Heres the latest replacement for the A1's next week what a replacement is all i got to say
THE show must go on – and what a hell of a show it will be!
Not content on letting an A1GP-no show spoil the party at next week’s Nikon SuperGP on the Gold Coast, Queensland Minister for Sport, Phil Reeves, has headed a task force to create what will be an amazing celebration of Australian motorsport.
Some of Australia’s motorsport greats and the owners of some of Australia’s most prized motoring possessions have agreed to come together to mark the next phase of one of the world’s most spectacular motorsport festivals.
Some of the great names will include Dick Johnson, Kevin Bartlett, John “Rusty” French, Glenn Seton and Colin Bond and more will be announced in the coming days.
They will thrill the crowd at close to race speeds in machines that have been a part of Australian motorsport folklore for generations – loud, fast and sideways!
They will be driving a host of former championship and Bathurst-winning cars including Allan Moffat’s famous Coca-Cola Mustang, Norm Beechey’s Monaro, Ian “Pete” Geoghegan’s Super Falcon, Bartlett’s famous Channel 9 Camaro, Peter Brock’s A9X Torana, Iim Richard’s JPS 635 BMW, Glenn and Bo Seton’s Ford Capri and Johnson’s Tru Blue Falcon XD – all valued well in excess of $1 million each.
Johnson will be joined by his son Steve, who will also be competing in the four 150km V8 Supercar events on the streets of the Gold Coast, and will get the chance to have a drive of a couple of the cars that made his dad a household name in Australia.
On top of the new Muscle Car line-up, the event will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first of Sir Jack Brabham’s three Formula 1 world titles.
Brabham, his Le Mans-winning son Geoff and talented grandson Matthew, who are the number 1-2-3 ticket holders for the event, will join the group of legend drivers for special Saturday and Sunday afternoon parade laps.
A couple of Sir Jack’s open-wheel racers will cut a few laps and Matthew will be involved in a special re-enactment of his grandfathers inaugural 1959 championship victory in which he pushed his car over the line at Sebring in Florida to clinch the title.
The group of legendary touring cars and drivers will be on constant display in a free public pit area and there will be at least two autograph sessions during the weekend.
The entire group will share stories and swap tales during the gala ball at Conrad Jupiters on Friday night.
“We need to put the A1GP situation behind us, re-group and put on the best show possible for the fans and television viewers,” said Minister Reeves.
“In a very short period of time we have managed to secure some of the greatest names and cars in Australian motorsport history to compete on the streets of the Gold Coast next weekend.
“With some of these legendary cars and the magical V8 Supercars we have an amazing celebration of Australian motorsport.
“To have names like Johnson, Bartlett, Seton and Bond sitting in pit lane beside modern day heroes like Whincup, Tander, Lowndes and Ingall is going to be fantastic and more than a suitable replacement for the former category.
“When you add the tribute to Sir Jack and the involvement of the Brabham family you have something pretty special.”
Queensland motorsport legend Dick Johnson, said the “party must go on” and he could not think of a better way to add to his “home” event.
Johnson and his V8 Supercar driving son, Steve, have also been named joint grand marshals as part of today’s announcement.
“It is un-Australian to sit back and ***** and moan, we need to get on with it,” said Johnson.
“I think the Minister and his group needs to be congratulated for acting so fast to pull this fantastic group together after A1GP left the event in a very difficult situation.
“So many fans will have only seen pictures of some of these cars. For them to be able to see them in action and get up close to them will be something special and I cannot wait to get out there and have a blast around.”
The program has been put in place with the help of well-known Queensland-based car collector David Bowden and his sons Dan and Chris from Bowden’s own Car Care products, who will supply 10 of the proposed 12-car field.
“The Muscle Car era of Australian motorsport is something that runs deep with every Australian motorsport fan and we are delighted that the crowd on the Gold Coast will have the opportunity to get up close to some of these cars,” said David Bowden.
“As a Queensland family we are delighted to be in a position where we can work with the Minister and the event organisers to pull this together at short notice.
“They say everything is meant for a reason and hopefully this is the beginning of something special at the Gold Coast.”
Nikon SuperGP General Manager, Greg Hooton, said the newly announced four 150km V8 Supercar race format and the injection of the Australian Legends category would see the Gold Coast event keep its status as one of the world’s great celebrations of motorsport.

Two things, 1. I think they have pulled the cat out of the bag, they will probably get a better spectator turn up for this than the A-1s.
2. I hope Channel 7 show the historic stuff & not ignore it because they haven't paid to be broadcast.
Channel 7 will have already commited to there programing (showing A1GP) (probably asked to be paid upfront as well) They will have to reschedule to fit in the 4 V8 races, but they should be left with air time for the historics.
Saturday 24th 11am - 5 pm
Sunday 25th 10am - 5pm

It'd be awesome if channel 7 did show it, but i reckon they'll probably just go to a filler of 3hrs of continous ads!;)
See that the amended time table is out.
Saturday has Top 10 shoot out followed by 2 X 150km races. Have to assume that there is 75 max points for each? Sunday there is qualifying followed by 2 X 150km races.
Can anyone confirm that there will be a CPS in each race? By my maths, they sould be able to do each race on a tank, yet will the cars have to take on fuel/tyres as a rule?
Also note that on TV we will be watching qual & race 1 & 3 delayed (if they in fact show us Sunday's qualifying) whilst races 2 & 4 should be live.
Lastly, will there be 4 podium presentations (12 surfboards) or just 1 for each day? Back to last years' possibilities I guess where a race winner may not end up on the podium.
Thanks for any info.

The IndyCars were great - a highly professional outfit, fast, had a few succesful australian drivers and teams. They were and are a HUGE (and unncessary) loss.

Anything other than the real deal would be mickey mouse stuff. NASCAR are to busy to get to Aus & Surfers is not really a good track for them anyway.

lol.
Saturday - qualyfing via top 10 shoot out. There cars line up on the grid and race 150km. The winner gets 75 points. few hours later the cars line up on the grid again in the same position they finished and race for 150km. That winner gets 75 points.
Say Davison finishes 1st in the first part = 75 points
Whincup 2nd = 70? (making that number up)
2nd race:
Davison - 3rd = 65? (making that up)
Whincup - 1st = 75
Whincup wins the first day's racing on 145 points/150. - he wins "Race 1"
Next day - sunday, regular qualyifing - cars line up on grid, race 150km. start again in the afternoon from where they finished. Combine points from those 2 segments.
In the case of a tie of points (davison 1st, 2nd and whincup 2nd, 1st = 145 each (making that number up) - i assume the winner of the 2nd race is the overall winner like in previous years.

The second Clipsal they had the same thing. Matched the cars with the drivers. Moffat absolutely caned the Phase 3 on the first day but he was the only one. After that they were more in cruise mode, but it was worth being there for that one day.

Your partly right HRT-222 . Points from both A and B races are added together to get a winner of the round of that day so to speak(race 19 and race 20) Results of the A races also deterine the grid for the B races. That what I have heard anyway

If they had "first race" and "second race" but not 3rd and 4th, i think you may have got yourself some diecast money.
GT is classed as the winner despite ending on equal points with frosty as he won the final leg.
Its like the old days when they had round winners and the winner of the round if there was a tie, was the winner of the final race.

Why are we calling these road circuit events "races"?????
The definition of race is "a contest of speed"
How can you have a genuine contest of speed when the only way to overtake another car is to dive up the inside of a kink in the road and hope the other guy gets out of your way.
On television, (when I wasn't asleep) I saw more overtaking on the highway outside the track than I did on the race track.

There was a traffic jam parallel to the main straight. And does any one know why its so hard to grab reverse gear?
Minh427, i was actually asking myself the same question a few weeks back and sent V8 supercars and email and this is the response i got:
"If Drivers are still using the H pattern gearbox (all cars in the Fujitsu Series do) the Teams will often set up the gearing to allow for the best gear changes when going forward. This is turn does make it difficult to select reveres, which is used very little. However the rules do require that the driver must be able to select reverse when required to do so."
Hopefully this answers your question.

Thanks for that. Because earlier James Courtney was trying to grab reverse and all you hear is grinding. And I think Crompo said so either roll the car forward or switch the engine off to grab reverse. Why do you need to switch the engine off?

Of course its hard to grab reverse, its so they dont slip it into reverse accidently, also making the tolerances of the reverse gear close and a limited space inside the gearbox and the limited use of reverse the teams make them a real low ratio to reduce size and weight of the boxes.

So he don't get any points then, Well what was skaife talking about then, When he said whincup did 75% of the race and he still gets points then ;)

Lee Holdsworth was fined $2000 (but suspended till the end of the year) for wearing "inappropriate clothing"!
during the drivers introduction (not shown on tv) he was seen with his racegear taped to him!! - lol!

He should he finished 2 laps ahead of Davison But he didn't actually finish and thats the thing. Will Davison went across the finish line on the last lap where as Whincup didn't.
Sounds stupid but I reckon that might be why.

To finish, you have to cross the start/finish line...
malscar
25-10-2009, 12:24 PM
Here are your regs as per the V8 manual
D 13 FINISHING AND RESULTS
D 13.2 Classification
13.2.1 To be classified as a finisher, a Car must cross the finishing line on the Race Track
under its own power; either:
13.2.1.1 as the winner of the Race; or
13.2.1.2 after the winner has crossed the finishing line; and
13.2.1.3 must have covered at least seventy-five (75%) of the distance covered
by the winner.
13.2.2 If a Car, in traversing its last lap, takes more than twice the time of the winner’s
fastest lap time for the race, the Car will not be classified as a finisher.
Reading 13.2.1 , Jamie did not cross the finish line and therefore can not be classified as a finisher. Also if you then read 13.2.2 it would be questionable it Holdsworth would also be classified as he was slower than my daughter on her pushbike (which is slower than walking pace).

So Lowndes could get a bad start, punt someone at the first chicane and then get pole back when the grid is re-established?

They should make a boxing ring out back for after the race. Let bargwana at whincup. Risky move and ruined 2 guys races (bargwana for second weekend in a row) while whincup got no damage.

Lets see if Whincup is penalised this time because he definately deserves to be. It was a stupid passing move and he caused two cars to get wrecked.
888 won't be popular among other teams over the next few weeks for sure (loved Paul Morris' comments:D).
BTW, that race start was a huge mess. Absolutely stupid rule!

Whincup needs to be penalised for that inncident with bargwanna and s.richards. He was the one that hit bargwanna to then hit richards. He was the one who caused the accident so he needs some sort of penalty.

What a friggin joke dcup should have got a drive through but it seems he can do what he wants.. I heard the incident will be investigated after the race which usually means he will get a slap on the wrist..

considering Kelly got a drive through for a bit of fuel leaking which would of stopped on its own, Whincup gets nothing...so far... for wrecking 2 cars. Make sence of that!!!!

Seems that the car with the number1 plate does not have the same penalty book as the rest of the field ,same yesterday with loose bodywork.hope bargs gets the chance to do the same before the end of the year.
For next years event, to make it up to race fans for the QLD Governments stuff-up with A1 GP (didn't they know about the $$$ problems when they signed them up?), the 2010 Event should have the FIA World Touring Car Champion & GP2 Asia Series to have a "Triple Billing" for the event.
WTCC's have thier Macau event in a few weeks time, so the timing of the event makes sense, and GP2 Asia Series would fill the 'open wheeler' hole in the programme, and bring along with it a "F1 feel".
If GP2 Asia Series were on the bill, I'd bet $1000 that Red Bull would enter Daniel Riccardo in the race.
Now THAT'S an Surfers Street Race that I WOULD attend.
