View Full Version : Is paint repair possible?

All -

I was recently sold a Palais White Torana from a shop that advertised it as "mint". Unfortunately, I've found a .3 - .4cm (1/8 inch) long flake of paint ready to come off. This is just above the left-hand tail light (almost covered when the hatch is down).

The flake of paint is still on, but it isn't going to last long.

Is it possible to "fix" this to some degree? I have an airbrush and have painted a number of plastic models. Could I mask off this little bit and paint it?

Unless the shop agrees to take it back and pay for the shipping, returning it is going to cost me.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Try a bit of super glue (water thin) with a tube applicator and just gently squeeze a micro drop out into the gap between the paint and the bodywork. If you have to press down to minimise the gap under the paint chip be very careful not to let whatever you use touch the glue or the whole lot will stick together.
No promises, just my best suggestion for a non paint fix.

zeitgeist how your nails looking? I would maybe try a small amount of clear nail polish under the flake if you can lift it a little. Then press it down and wipe off the excess.

Eliot -

That is exactly what I wanted to try, but I was concerned about the super glue eating through the paint and leaving a mess. We all know what model glue does to paint.

I hadn't thought of that. Actually, my nails are mess because I made Tandori chicken last night. Nail polish has some adhesive properties? I guess it is sticky, right?

Both of those great suggestions!

To glue clear parts in model making I use Clear enamel paint, Tamiya brand, that way it doesn't whiten the area, and sticks quite well.
