Hi guys (and gals)
My wife asked me the other day how many models will I get (I think she really meant how many will I let you get!), and I thought to myself "how many is too many", this of course begged a responsible reply (something like.... hmmm hide two models for every one I have on display, and rotate them - nar) "oh just the Kiwi drivers of course" I replied, he he.
Anyhow to get to the point I'm interested in how many you all have, at the moment I only have two Biante models (The Rat DJR 2002 1:18 and Murph K-mart 2002 1:18) way back when I was a wee lad in Kiwi land I use to make my own, bought basic models like the Ford Serria, then painted it in David Oxtons colours (bet most of you don't know David), thought that was great, but having seen the Biante range WOW - when I look back they (mine) were pretty crappy!
Anyhow - how many have you got (last count)?
Cheers and happy racing.

So far, only 31, all 1/43. Road cars ranging from '49 to '80. Racers from '62 to '02.
I haven't bought my January or Febuary cars yet, though. Waiting for 05 '02 to appear in the shops to compare it with Team Brock #54 & decide between the 2.

Thanks Steve.
Quick question about the 1:43 size do they have opening parts like the bigger brother 1:18's - I'm yet to collect one, do they have the same detail inside and out?
Thanks and happy collecting

Nope, none of mine have anything that opens, though I have seen the odd one on the net with opening doors etc.
The detail varies tremendously, from non-existent to astoundingly good, as in Biante & CC (ONLY the '02 cars, before that, CC are rubbish) down to tiny coil springs, very accurate dashes, etc.
Interestingly, some of my '70's Matchbox cars have opening doors & bonnets, complete with interiors & motors, in 1/64!

i have 27 1:18 and only 6 biante 1:43, 2 trax 1:43 and god knows how many CC 1:43.
also the biante 1:43 doors bonnet etc dont open but the interior detail is awsome. i have pulled a few apart and there is detail in there that there is no way you can see it unless you pull it appart but just knowing its there is satisfying.
Thankfully my G/F doesnt get a say in my financial matters so i get what cars i want and dont have to hide them from anyone. but my 1:1 car is starting to slow my collection down, i might sell it and get a $200 corolla so i can keep my collection going. Ive been waiting 2 years for the Cop car and it looks like i might miss it :( oh well theres always the 2nd hand market in 6 months.

I have 18 1:18 Biante, with 2 more en route and 2 more to be purchased within a few days.
Chups, how do you display 27 1:18 cars? I know someone out here still has them all in a closet. Do most of you with a large number of cars have them all on display?
Zorak used some excellent wall cabinets, which allow free placement of his cars, but, until I finish my basement , they aren't an option for me. I already have too much stuff on the walls upstairs.
I have a glass top coffee table (approx 104x104 cm) with a 15cm- high shelf just below the glass. I'm working on an acrylic box to slide underneath the glass to hold some of them. It'll take up most of the shelf (71x104), leaving a little space for remote controls and a few books.
Have any of you made your own acrylic boxes for display?

Hmm, well, lets see - one, two, three... altogether 22, most in 1/43. There's other racing related stuff aswell, but these didn't cost me anything, so they don't count... right? ;)

Mate of mine has 95 1/18 & about 30 1/43 they line the walls of his very small loungeroom in shelving along with framed prints, it's more of a motor racing shrine, i think his wife is about to go nuts if anymore adorn the loungeroom

Hi fellow Kiwi,
Get your wife to read the thread entitled 'The Biante Name', and the reply thread from Bev (Mrs Admin).
Bev seems to have absolutely no problem with Trevors 20,000+ models.
So....if you have less than 20,000 models, you wife shouldn't have a problem......:D

I have about 100 1/18 and about 10 1/43rd.
I tell my family that they are an investment. Not that I would ever sell them.

Ive got 63 1:18 and six 1:43. I am going to cull my collection, and sell off about 20 of them (1:18). Only the ones that i feel are "double ups" like the 6 VX HRT cars, four valvolines, etc. They might be different drivers, etc, but they look the same from a metre away.
But, when i was working out what they are worth, my missus was stoked to realise they have all gone up in value. So, i havent been getting any agro lately when i bring home a new model!!
4 Kiwis on one thread. Must be a record!! Last count was 56 models. 53 of which are Commodores. In process of getting 6 more Biante 2002 1:43rd Commodores. All in boxes as I don't have a cabinet. They have their own room though!!

Hi there,
....to be honest...i dont know the exact number of model cars i have....must be around 120 1:18 and about 80 1:43.This are the good ones...all still in their boxes.
Just recieved another 3 (Minichamps,McLaren Fittipaldi,McLaren Hunt,Jordan 191 Schumacher) in germany ,2 are on their way(CMC, W196 Fangio,W154 von Brauchitsch) and got about 15 (1:18) on my list to be ordered as soon as they will be released.
I have heaps of old cars i played with when i was a kid and collected over the years... Matchbox,Dinky,Siku,Bburago,Maisto,Hotwheels,Whizz wheels.....
i hope i'll be able to display them all during the next year. We'll be moving into a big house till the end of the yaer and both,my wife and me will have our own room(the kids will be living in the garage next to the car)......cheers Marty
PS:Too many? Huh..what do you mean with too many???? ;)

How many is too many?
Well, when you run out of cupboard, cabinet and shelf space I suppose.
But with 85 1:43rd Holdens, 62 Fords in 43rd & 17 Valiants aswell, mainly road vehicles.
8 1:24ths and 10 1:18ths and still going. When the dream sheet is complete, then it's time to say enough is a enough.

Hi,
I am new here. Hello to everyone!
I have been collecting for more than 4 years now. Currently, I have about 330 1:18 models in my collection. Sadly, I only have 1 and soon to be 2 Biante Limted Edition Models.
As for how much is too much? Well, I guess it really depends on what you can afford + accommodate. If you can afford to buy more and with space to store/display them, why not? With that in mind, I guess I should really cut down on diecast model purchases. After all, I don't think my tiny apartment can store another 100 pieces of diecast models in 1:18. On top of that, I should save some money for rainy days in this economy... :(
Oh yeah, I just ordered the XA GT. So much for trying to cut down my diecast model purchases.. lol

At last count, 632 1/18, 132 1/43. Been collecting 1/43 since I was a boy(starting with Mebetoys, Mercurys, and Corgi toys in the 60's). My first 1/18 is the Burago Ferrari 250 GTO bought back in 1987. I've got most of the Biante Commodore V8 supercars. The collection has snowballed since. When will it end? Probably when I retire and have to live off of my pension!:D

That was my first as well! Most of my bBuragos are forgettable, but I'll always keep that one and the red and grey 300SL Gullwings. I don't care if there are better ones out there; they definitely hold sentimental value.

hello louis,
wont take long for you to fill up that Australian Collection Page.
.....interestingly i was looking at your Featured Models Page and noticed the Welly 69 mustang and the surprise at its superior presentation to other wellys.
several of us here have that models twin the #9, every bit the same as the #1 you display, that we have bought from USA dealers.
these models were used to produce an australian classic racing car. "the alan moffat boss mustang" that had 101 race victories from 157 starts from 69 to 74 in several liveries....2 of which have been released in australia to date with COA signed by alan moffat.
check it out....
http://www.hotmemorabilia.com.au/intro.htm
unfortunately the website has never been updated since the release of the first moffat car.
but the #9 car i speak of, the moffat coke car (the boss), and the brut 33 example can all be seen on this site...as well as the recently released 65 mustang of australian pete geogehan that won a few touring car titles as well (but thats another story)
http://homepage3.nifty.com/doutome/18scalePage3.ht m
gotta go and check out the rest of your site....

terrine,
Many thanks for the info about Alan's T/A Mustang. After I composed the review, I have a feeling that it will demostrate just how little I know about the racing world plus the possibility of upset fans of Alan Moffat. After all, Alan could be as legendary as Carol Shelby or Dan Gurney. :)
Believe it or not, I have little interest in auto racing. In fact, I don't even know the names of 2002 Le Mans Overall Winning drivers. I guess I am more into the design and history of the "cars" than anything else. Anyway, my apology to the fans of Alan Moffat for the statement(s) I made on my site. :)
I am certainly looking forward to receive the XA GT I ordered. I'll be waiting in line for the XB GT, XC Cobra Option 97, and other Falcons as well. These cars are so well designed and powerful. It's a shame that Ford never introduce any of them in the US.
Happy Collecting!

WOW biante3413 that really blew me away when I read that, thats some huge investment.
Hey fellow Kiwi's go the Kiwi V8 drivers for 2003, what with the Americas Cup results to date, (not that we hear much about it over here) Don't even mention the cricket.
Good to hear from you all - keep it coming and keep collection - I'm gonna, (I hope) wife found forum (not the one under the bed!!) and has a few words for whoever mentioned the purses and shoes;)
......from wife via email to self.. (I think you better set the guys straight. Most of the guys seem to think I have a problem with you collecting cars. Infact I was quite fascinated about the lady who owns Biante etc.And I don't buy heaps of shoes and handbags. One guys seems to lump every women under the same heading (Women=lots of shoes and handbags and has a problem with model cars collections) I'm having a great laugh reading your posts)
Douh a woman scorned - and you buy no more models!!!
Cheers

Hey Kiwiracing, check out Kevin Pickell of Scale18.com's collection.
http://scale18.com/diecast.html . His huge list is of the models he actually owns! Also, a forum member, Allanmodel has a huge collection, too!.http://http://www.allanmodel.com/
Being a GM man I decided to get the HRT 1999 season Commodores. Like peanuts, I couldn't get just one. I'm working on the 2002 season cars(3 more to go!) I get both team cars. I used to collect strictly F1 , but just get the 3 top teams now. I don't have any fancy cabinets to display my models, just shelves. A couple of sections of a barrister are used to display the cream of my collection: Exoto's Ford GT40 MKII's and GMP 1/12 GT40 MKIV's. I know I said I was a GM man but the 1966 Le Mans 24 hour was the first race I attended thus the MKII became my favorite race car. And I DO have several Falcons, XW to AU
My Dad got me infected with the Diecats Bug, he has approx 1500-2000 various model cars (which will be all mine some day!!) and to date mine stands at about 450 1:43 and 1:18 combined. The 1:18 only makes up about 5% of the total.

I have been collecting cars for years.
The more popular ones I have in cabinets with spotlights.........
I have no idea on numbers but there's heaps, mainly 1:43, 1:32 Slot and around 2 dozen 1:18's.
I generally use the 1:18's as a centrepiece as they take up so much precious room in the cabinets.
I have convinced the wife that I need 1 maybe 2 more cabinets.............geez the look she gave me!!!!!!!!!!:o

Gidday Timbo333, I know the look your talking about.
I have added another 1:18 to my collection this weekend, actually it really came about as a bit of a surprise. We (wife, son and I) were shopping in Parramatta Westfield, and of course we just had to go to the HSV shop there, had a look around, stood in front of the glass cabinet drooling for sometime whilst wife looked around store (Yes she actually took notice of what was on offer) she of course wanted to buy a HSV jacket, which being the obliging husband I thought was OK.
Well only OK if we could add the Brock Red machine, (of course driven by a Kiwi (Baird)) to my collection - so she let me, hmmmm I mean I let her get the jacket.:D
Anyone seen the 2002 1:18 Team Kiwi yet, I'm dying to add it to the collection.
Happy collecting.
Cheers
