View Full Version : Ba Gtho
In our NZ Herald this morning, in a special lift-out motoring special it had an article about the forth coming BA GTHO. It was mainly about the Motor that they are going to use, so all you Holden Fans better start shaking in your boots because the New GTHO is going to use the same motor that the yanks put in their F-150 Lightning Pick-up, a TURBOed V8. The Yank version pumps out 373Kw but they are going to De-Tune the Aussie version to around 330-350Kw. Eat our Dust Holden Followers and I do mean Followers as that is all the HSV's will be able to do!!

thats a wonderful story and fits in with previous rumours, but to detune that motor from 373 to 350 kwt for our BA might be a problem......
now i am not a rocket scientist, and i hope there is one there that can explain this to me, but traditionaly KWT power is far less than HP produced.
..the F150 lightning is quoted at 380 HP....
my source...my car is 250 HP but only 185 kwt.
rocket scientist please explain this to me..

Hey Drof,
Three simple numbers, 427.

As much as I like the sound of a return of the GTHO, I seem to recall that the Gen III is detuned to 300kw.
Now I love Ford (don't get me wrong) but if the Gen III's are detuned to 300kw for the GTS then I think Ford would need much more than 330kw to be a force with a 'tuned' Gen III if output numbers are you cup of tea.
For me anything can go fast in a straight line but for me, something that 'stops on a dime' & 'corners on rails' are far more improtant than just pure kw's
cheers.:D
Fords GT40 phase 4 that won le mans 1967 had a 427 engine!!!
It was up against a upgraded GT40 phase 2(with 289 engine)at the start.
Bring on the GTHO Barra.
In the early 1980's a XD GTHO phase 6 was released so the Barra GTHO should be the phase 7.
Both FPV GT and GT-P have 290kw engines.

Terrine, you are correct!
1kW = 1.34HP or 1HP = 0.75kW
This makes your 185kW = 248HP (rounded to 250).
According to the link above (to SVT) the F150 Lightning has 380HP (NOT kW) meaning it has 285kW...no threat to the General if we are talking power output.
Just for arguements sake, lets say the Lightning did have 373kW. This equates to a massive 500HP!!
Would be pretty good for a "Production" vehicle!

thanks lcfp2297 (or is that rocket scientist)
didnt quite sound right to me, but why let the truth get in the way of a good story hey?

Monaro just remember the 427 is a Supercar and is not in the same catagory as the GTHO. The 427 is going to cost about $250000, so it is in a league with Porsche and Ferrari etc.

I read in the Sunday Mail newspaper (Brisbane) that the Monaro 427 will have it's 7 litre motor detuned to 350kw. Holden are only building 50 at a price tag of $215,000.00. No air conditioning, No back seat, light weight panels and there are a few other luxuries not available , all to save on weight.
More along the lines of race car specs .
Mind you , I only read this in the newspaper, and yes I know that some of you don't believe anything you read in the newspapers- motor mags, so we'll all just have to wait and see.
Bring on the BA GTHO, ( if you can believe its going to happen). :p

When they and if they bring out a GT-HO in the BA series Falcon, what would be a great idea is to have a shaker sticking out the bonnet simular to the XY GT .
They could do away with the buldge in the bonnet ,this would destinguish them from a BA GT.
They could put a few stripes along the bottom side of the doors like the XR GT with the words GT- HO printed in it.
I should do a sketch to see what one would look like !

I believe the 427 monaro is a production race car just like the GTHO and XU1 where.
Jamie
The HRT 427 is meant to be the ULTAMITE Club spec racer usefull for Rallying(etc Targa Tassie-Brock may use a HRT 427 as his 2003 Targa Monaro),race tracks(etc Nations cup group 2) and club level racing.

After viewing the 427 in the flesh for the 1st time at the motorsport show yesterday, I've got to say just how good this vehicle looks.
While it does share (what appears anyway) body pannels with a regurlar CV8.
However the engine work & interia roll cage looks awesome !!!
Now if can find a way to get $215k to get 1, I would be in heaven !!!
Otherwise, I'll just have to wait until the Biante version is released.
cheers.
