Hey mate, they look great but shouldn't the Moffat XY have XY stripes that go down to the grille, unlike the XW type which yours appears to have. And should also be a number 1 in a black circle on the bonnet. Also the Moffat 72 XY Bathurst car didn't have a spoiler..

You've possibly looked at these, however the Bathurst Photographic Series of books by Stephen Stathis have heaps of shot of the older cars, sadly most are in B&W, however it may help be a starting point.

Definately no spoliers on the '72 Falcons.

You're right, that XY has XW bonnet stripes and the XU-1 appears to have widened wheel rims. In 1972 they ran standard wheels. Otherwise, utterly top work! :)

The Moffat car should also have silver tape on the headlights, and what's the deal with those number plates? Great work though.

The number plates are for the mod group... In the game there is an option to run number plates or not..the cars that ran plates will also have the plates done

Thats great work on those cars.Just a couple of discrepancies that i've noticed.By the time the phase 3 came out they had done away with the spoilers front and rear and the john french car had ford painted in white on the grille.I hope that is of some help to you.

thanks for that...I never noticed the front spolier missing.

Ford is painted white on the radiator behind the grill(this is not 100% accurate but the grill section cannot be painted on this model)

The car has the Ford logo on the RHS and Falcon on the left as per how the car raced at Bathurst

In the book Bathurst XU-1 Toranas by Stephan Stathis on page 154 there is this banner on the window.. It does appear to be ripping off from the wipers so throughout the day it probably completely flew off

I will try and take a pic from the book with my camera

Mate - I was there way back in 1972 & all I remember was two legends being born;-

Peter Brock's first win at Bathurst & also my first visit - still going each year since.

Torana - Little car - big heart.

In fact you could have either. It just depended on what parts were on the production line at the time.

Have had 2 LJ's built 3wks apart (going by the Nos) 1 had Clear lenses the other had orange.

I doubt any Toranas at Bathurst 72 had orange lenses as the ADR requiring them only came in from some time in (early?) '73. Colour pics of Brock, McPhee, Forbes, Holland and Moore all show white lenses at '72 race. The change of lenses may have happened towards the end of '72 if they ran out of the white ones but the bigger change was in the wiring as the parking lights changed from the indicators to the headlights (or vice versa).

I tend to agree Peter ... ADR #6 effective January 1973 ... same goes for the HQ Holdens, where amber indicator lenses went into the bumper and the parking light was incorporated into the headlight sealed beam unit.

Peter, I didn't say at Bathurst. :)

My Father bought his LJ XU1's one in Dec 72 & the other toward the end of Jan 73, following a series of LC XU1's.

Graeme you are correct in the ADRs being a Factor, as am I when I stated you could have either depending on which Day they were being built as GMH were preparing for the Changover:)

After his Torana experiences, he then went to Gulson's Canberra Speed Shop & bought an Alfa Romeo Guilia 1300. A beautiful Vehicle with a propensity to snap Clutch Cables on a regular basis (weekly My Father's rather heavy use of the clutch dropping it at High Revs)

I'm curious as to why your father bought two XU-1s at essentially the same time ... I mean, everyone has heard the line about Jaguars whereby you need two of them, one to drive whilst the other one is in the workshop ...

To answer that one I'd have to be a mind reader:D.

However I'll attempt to answer by saying that , my Dad believes that he has the skill of the Great Juan Manual Fangio & doesn't (to the point where my Son won't ride in a Vehicle of any type when he is the driver) so your analogy with Jags isn't to far from the mark;)

BTW before the Torries he had numerous Jags:rolleyes:
