Cheers.

I always thought if you could drive a 750HP Alfa, a 650HP AU would be a doddle!!
No, seriously, I am glad for Tony and Dick and the DJR gang for such a great result.
The factory has had the graphics for a week, so it wont be long til we get the models.
Who wants one??

Admin, you know what I like.
Of course I'll be getting one of Tony's Falcons (in 1:43).
Admin, do you know how long Tony has signed with DJR for ??
I don't remember reading anywhere where it said how long he had joined the team for.
Can hardly wait,
cheers.

Had a phone link up with Tony today and he is really pleased the way the weekend went.
I didn't realise at the time, but he had never driven that track before and had not even driven the car before!!
The team is delighted and the car didnt have one mark on it which makes a bit of a change for Dicks panel beaters.
The Alfa was not as good with 2 DNF's and no time left to fix it for heat 3, so watch out for a detrmined drive in round 2.
Tony is doing some testing Wednesday to fine tune the car, so here's hoping for another good result at Adelaide, a track he has blasted around in the Alfa on several occassions.
Konica Round 1 results
1st-Mark Winterbottom(SBR)-2001 Ford Rotax(go-kart)champ
2nd-TONY RICCIARDELLO(DJR)-5 time Sports sedan champ
3rd-Owen Kelly(Smiths trucks)VT Commodore
4th-Luke Youlden(Supercheap Auto-Ellery racing)-02 Bathurst Konica champ.
5th-Andrew Jones(Ozemail racing).
Dale Brede in the HRT Young guns car-R1 DNF,R2(reverse grid)4th,R3 16th.
All Ford (big leauge)V8 Supercar teams in Konica series-All in top 5.
HRT's young guns had a bad day.
I want Tonys Konica car done in 1/43 and Minicar.

Was lucky enough to go down to Wakefield on sunday to watch the racing, Great result for Ford and It felt really good to see the Blue oval victorious again. Dale Brede (a good friend of mine) had a bad weekend, qualified 4, got pushed real wide on the 1st coner of the 1st race which pused him right back down the pack, was making strong progression untill a altercation with Wyhoon, caused a broken steering arm, end of race 1. Race 2 saw him go from back of the grid right up into the top 10, was a good drive and great to watch. race three saw him start about 15th and also had a great opening leg making it back into about 6th before he got a flat tyre, put him a lap down and 16 overall for the weekend. He was a tad disappointed at work today but is happy with the car and ready to take them all on at the next round.
On another note, who would like to see some of the Aussie cars and models ??, these things are great to watch.

oldxr, I'm with you on the DJR thing - love em to death !!!!:D
I can't wait to the day when someone releases a replica 1:1 scale of Dick's open face helmet that he used to wear.
It may be a pipe dream but one can dream can't they ???
cheers.

Thanks again, Tony

Well done Tony !!!!
If you can come 2nd at a track you've never driven on, I wonder what you can do on a track you know !!!!!
So Tony, I know your driving for DJR this year, but when you were younger (and growing up) who was your favorite driver ???
Have you always been a Ford man or was a drive with DJR worth changing you allegiance for ???
Also, while I'm asking questions, what made you choose to race an Alfa in sports sedans ???
I hope all goes well with the testing & look foward to seeing your next race in Adeliade.
cheers.

Thanks for your support so early in the season. I actually use to be a John Bowe fan when i was growing up, but also Dick Johnson drove my dads second Alfa Sports sedan in 1985 or sumthing and the alfa i drive is dads 3rd one.

BRCHI17, If my memory serves me correctly somebody did put out a 1:1 of Dicks old bash hat in the mid 90's I think. I remember because I wanted one but couldnt afford it, it would certainly top off my collection of all things DJR. I couldnt tell you much more other than it cost a bomb and was presented in a display case. Bit of a worry news about the rear wing on Max's car and the flex and vibrations in Steves car, good stuff having some inside info from Tony though. If only we could get more drivers to spill some guts, I see Garth Tander and Steve Richards visit Conrod occasionally.

Thanks for the message donk66.
I've heard that the problem with the end plates (& rear wing) relates back to the company that makes them for FPV & not the actual individual teams.
Why it only happened to DJR & SBR is anyones guess !!!
I just hope it doesn't happen to any of the team while their racing at the AGP or Adeliade, as the results could end up being very expensive - not to mention potentally deadly !!!
I can remember a long while (1995 I think) a go Dick had a wing break on his EF in Caltex Chase at the Bathurst round (while he was leading I might add !!) of the championship while the commentators were talking to him. They (Mike Raymond, etc..) actually thought they had caused the crash - quite funny I thought !!!
It great to see Tony being so honest about his racing & its' a great pitty we don't have more drivers as member of this forum. Considering the popularity of their racecars it's a wonder they don't even check the forum out.
Only time will tell,
cheers.

You never know Brad, as you said, Tony already visits the forum and might be able to
tell some of the other drivers what is
being discussed etc. On the other hand, They might see how many posts you've written and FREAK OUT.
Over 700 Post is pretty impressive.

Well this a supposedly a model collectors forum :p
but conrod.com is a great place for V8 supercar info.

I argee with you bathurstfan, about this forum is for model cars, but its hard to stay away from the V8's, considering Biante are one of the main players in the Australian V8 supercar model car market !!!
I to visit conrod regurally, but seldom contribute because I think the Biante forum is much better one & worth being a part of.
I think the input of drivers like Tony can give us non-racing collectors a good insite to how the racing sceen works.
cheers.

By the time the season starts we should have Rick and Todd Kelly and also Jason Bright as regular contributors .
We will be talking to the other drivers in "our" teams and maybe we can get most of them to join us in a chat room.
Richard has worked out how we can have a special Forum just for talking to the drivers at a certain time, so hopefully, we can make it happen.
brchi, I actually think the incident you are talking about , when the spoiler gave way going down Conrod Straight was in his Sierra, not his Falcon. The commentators were talking to him going down Conrod when all of a sudden he was getting spun around doing 250+ , did some beautiful piroquets and gracefully brought the car under control and still giving a full running commentry as only Dick can.

The sierra spin was a tyre letting go. The Falcon incident occurred during one of the ATCC rounds held at the mountain when the centre of the wing went.

Dave,
The spinning Sierra was in 1988, but what I was refering to was in 1995 when Dick was driving the Shell Fai EF Falcon at Bathrust when it was a round of the ATCC (There were 2 races at Bathurst that year, a sprint round of 2 races & the usual 1000km race).
The spin happen as Dick approached the chase under brakes, braking from 280km+ !!!
At the time 7 were talking to Dick on racecam (7 were talking to Dick about him being at the wheel for the first time for a Bathurst victory, all be it a round victory) & there was a deadly slience for a few seconds as the commentators thought they had caused Dick to crash (rear wing failure was the actual cause) while he was leading. Subsequently, John Bowe went on to win the race as the team were running 1,2 at the time.
cheers.

I remember some choice words from Dick as he spun...just before the deadly silence.
Have you noticed that since 95, commentators don't tend to talk to drivers during a race, unless under yellow's...

I think was also responsible for the end of commetators talking to drivers in the US as well, when during a Nascar race at Watkins Glen it was punted of the track by Richard Pretty & called him a dickhead !!!!(pitty the yanks didn't know what he was talking about !!!!)
Dick then drilled the final nail in the coffin when dropped the magic "F" word on camera as he understeered of the track & hit the wall at another road course while being interviewed by the yanks.
Personally, my favorite is when Dick was at Bathurst driving the Mustang along side Jim Richards (JPS 6 series BMW) in (I think) 1985 & the two appear to be talking to each other through the windows as they raced side by side up Mountain Straight.
cheers:D

Nobody could drive and talk like Dick. Brockie could give tech feedback to commentators, but only Dick could have you in stitches whilst performing an overtaking manouver.

I went to DJR's today (Fri) and the cars look great, Max was looking at his car while it was getting worked on, it just needed the bonnet painted and the rear wing and from the outside looked near complete.
Heres's one for Brchi17, It was the ATCC round at Bathurst 96, friday or saturday morning practice, racecam on DJ as he's going along Pit Straight & ahead was Brock buried in the Hell Corner sandtrap, quick as a flash DJ says " he'll need a shovel to get out of there" and, as his mind was totally on the job, he lost it as well, and while he was sliding into the sandtrap to join Brocky, he said " you better make that two shovels".
Classic DJ humour. He's a legend.
