After seeing GT40's track in another thread, I wouldn't mind buying a set and giving it a go.:)I'm mainly interested in all the model train like dio kinda work and making it look fancy but the racing would be really fun if you got a few friends around and use the whole lap timing gear.

I have a set from 1972, it still works and has the Fittipaldi Lotus 72D and March Ford 721 with the front wing still attached! I also have James Hunt's 1976 Mclaren M23. The artwork on the old boxes is incredible.....I'm amazed I still have it in working condition!

http://melbournemodelraceway.com.au/slxc3030x.jpgO ld thread i know but i just almost finished my attic and set the scalextric up i bought the brock 75 bathurst winner a few months back and decided to get it out today the only other scalextric cars i have are the v8s cars that came with the 2 sets i have and i find them a bit slippery and the auto art stick a lot better but i was suprised by the torana it sticks better than the auto art ones i may have to purchase the 76 winner as well so i have 2 cars hopefully even in lap times. The detail on these toranas is quite good my son sent me an ebay link showing me one and i said to him i already have it lol its been in a cabinet with diecast models for ages and he didnt know it was a slot car lol.

I recently got to play with a Carrera Digital 1:24 scale circuit upon which you can run up to six cars at a time, and which can also happily accommodate 1:32 scale digital cars.
Lane changing sections makes it all the more interesting for carrying out blocking and passing manoeuvres.
Carrera is a German brand manufactured in China ... no surprises there I guess ... and, here's a link to the history page of the Carrera website :

I have the 75 Brock and 76 Morris Torana's put away, never used them, just bought them to collect dust.
Also got a few of the 1/43ish size VE GTS's from Carrera.

If you are into Scalextric perhaps you should check out the Australian Scalextric Racing and Collecting Club http://www.scalextricaustralia.com/ I was a founding member when we started the club some 20 years ago or so. It grew to more than 100 members in short time and had members from around the world. Sadly time constraints meant I had to choose from the 1:32 scale or the 1:1. Yep, 1:1 won out and I sold my collection of approx 140 cars 2 years ago.

With the 76 Brock car, they were going to do a Marlboro Torana (#1) which appeared in a catalog but they changed it to the one picture above because people may put the Marlboro stickers on it and let the kids play with it .
Which is a bummer, world gone crazy again.
Anyway, I've got the Brock/Sampson one, don't have a track or race them. Only got it because it's a Brock car.

This is probably a really stupid question, but I picked up a carrera Hsv set from super cheap 2 years ago and I was wondering if it can be updated or extended with scaletrix stuff?

May be cheaper to buy a couple more sets when they are on special, that way you get some spare cars and controllers.

Thanks HDT337, one day I'll set up a track permanently but at the moment it comes out about once a year. Be nice to have some old touring cars to run, not just ve Hsvs

You will find that Carrera set is 1/43 scale, and you probably need to just buy that track to extend yours.
Scalextric, SCX, are compatable and in 1/32 scale, then there is Ninco a bit wider than Scalextric and you can get conversion strights to add scalextric and Ninco together.
Then there is Carrera 1/24 scale track for 1/32 and 1/24 scale cars, wider again than Ninco track.
All the 1/32 scale cars can be used on each track.
Armchairracer is a good place to see what you can get.

I bought the brock 75 bathurst winner awhile back and it runs rings around the v8sc ones i have, it sticks to the track like the proverbial whilst the supercars slip and slide everywhere. The autoart ones i have are ok as well.

The 76 team brock bathurst torana is out now. The detail on these scalextric slot cars is amazing compared to the slot cars of old although the little sticker on the back of the case with the description is wrong , it says 1974 bathurst winner brock sampson, someone in the research dept there needs a good kicking.
