Don't get too excited Ford boy !!!

As a previous Ford owner (EL Falcon) I can tell you the 1st time my Ford had a ride behind a tow truck it had done 2000kms & was 3 months old !!!

It then got another 3 rides on the back of a tow truck before I got rid of it over the 5 years I owned it !!!!

With the amount of electronics on cars these days just about anything can cause them to need the assistance of a tow truck (flat battery for example - My girlfriends fathers MY98 WRX had to be trucked back to a Subaru dearler because of this problem, as when the battery went flat so to did the battery back up for the alarm).

I'm sure if you went & spoke to a local tow truck operator they could tell you that they have had many new models being towed for one reason or another.

For example, in my home town, we had a Barra break down (unknown mechanical problem) at my local servo just 2 weeks before they were released !!!!

Food for thought,
cheers.

unless it was just a show car or sumthin....

Well around Victoria, espically in the month before the Barra was offically released, there were something like 100 Barra's (# from what I read on the ford forum - can't remember the author, sorry) driving around the roads.

I saw 4 (1 in Dromana - broken down one - & 3 on the Sth Gippsland Hwy - going to & from Phillip Island) in the lead up to the offical release of the Barra.

I suppose they were Barra Series II models as I couldn't believe that Ford would be working on a model which was only 2 weeks away from release !!!

cheers.:D

I had a brand new Ford XD with no problems over the 12 years and 240,000kms I owned it and I have a late 1989 (used 40,000km) Ford EA which now has 280,000kms on it.

The EA auto went at 240,000kms and besides batteries and a alternator everything else has gone ok.

The EL must have been just one of those cars. I drive most modern cars at work and they all have their problems - not many though.

With the BA that was being tested, was it broken down or were they checking components? Thats why they are out there anyway, to be tested.

Bathurstfan,
most of the problem I had with the EL were all related to cheap, unreliable parts that Ford fitted when the vehcile was built. Once I replaced them, with good quality parts those parts never broke again.

Before that I had an XF & it ran like a train. For the 5 years I drove it, it never broke down & was a fantastic vehicle !!!!

It only had 1 ride on a tow truck but that was caused by a VW that turned in front of me !!!!

Gee I hate VW's !!!

With the Barra, they wouldn't expand on as to why it broke, one can only assume that they were either trailing new parts or testing the life of equipment on the car under real world situations.

cheers.

Well I was driving down the pacific highway in south qld about 6 weeks ago and on the side of the road has a VY commodore with smoke billowing out from under the bonnet.. about 2 minutes later I passed the fire brigade... Well I really had to stop myself from pulling over the yelling at him to buy a ford!:D

How many door handel`s and door hinges did you have to replace.I make good money selling and fitting xd to xf door handel`s.You can even buy them in a servo

Pffftt......
Yes the XD-XF door handle was a bit of a dodgy design.
I have killed the odd one as well.
But the majority of the problems come down to a lack of basic maintenance, and that is something that is on the increase with modern cars that are less user friendly........

To be honest I can't remember replacing any door handles on my old XF either.

Door hindges on the other hand are another problem.

But once I changed them over to new ones, I never had to do it again. Problem solved

cheers.
