I'm surprised no one has suggested that Ambrose could possibly return for the Super Carnivale to partner Russell Ingall (no way in hell he would partner Greg Murphy!!!!)

Since Ambrose is now in a different code. Or is he somehow prohibited from contesting?

I think Ambrose will want a car that he can choose the sponsors for not a pre-arranged sponsor, that is if he ever races here again. According to his book he is not ever going in to F1 or over to the USA to race.

Marcos will be busy racing in Martinsville Speedway on the Gold Coast weekend.
But I'm not sure V8's would allow him as a 'foreign driver' because Enduro specialist, Dane Allan Simonsen wasn't classified as an 'international' due to him being 'highly experianced'.

NASCAR races at Auto Club Speedway on the Bathurst weekend and at Richmond International Raceway on the Phillip Island 500 weekend.

So only weekend that Marcos has available to race V8's is Homebush, if he doesn't make the Top 12 in NASCAR points (and we'll know that after the PI 500 because that is the final Non-Chase event), as all Chase drivers are required to attend an end of season dinner that is held on the Homebush weekend.

And with V8's offering teams a 'guest drive' license now, I'd say there'd be a good chance Marcos would be joining us again in December in an SBR prepared FG Falcon with a NASCAR style livery.

I think Simonsen was rejected because he wasn't "high profile" enough for the QLD Govt.
Don't think it had anything to do with his talent. If the Qld Govt are to continue to fund the
event they have stipulated that they want high profile internationals competing.

Pretty sure they would have had no dramas with Ambrose competing.
Briscoe, Power etc are all "Foreign Aussies" and have been given the green light.

As for the "guest drive" license, I am pretty sure it's only been
discussed as a possible idea and has not yet formally been agreed to???

Yes, V8SA didn't have a licence for him to use - that was the main problem.
They didn't have it in their rules to allow the 30th licence to be used in a 1-off capacity.

A driver was prepared to lend him a car/licence but Ambrose wanted the whole car
dedicated to his sponsors - meaning the existing sponsors would have been out in the cold.

The mini series has a "superstar" car. Perhaps it might be good for V8's to allow
a wildcard entry for special events only??? There's pro and cons for the idea.

Just what they need on the final event with a championship up for grabs, some bozo who either hasn't any time in the cars or has been out of the series for years potentially ruining the show.

The Mustang would nearly be legal, 5000cc RWD, heavily modified body, sounds like a V8SC to me.

I still dont understand how the pints will work in this race?
according to the v8 Supercar site there will be 2 x 200km races,
Will these overseas drivers drive both races?????
are the points going to be similar to Bathurst/Phillip island?

Like I said, there's pro's and cons to allowing that to happen.
Obviously someone like Ambrose wouldn't have too much of a problem
but I think there's enough "bozo's" running around on a regular basis to
cause trouble just as much.

As for the "Supercarnivale" the info on the V8 site says "2 x 300km races (Sat and Sun)
with each team required to field 1 international driver in their stable, with the internationals
required to complete 30% of each race distance".

Does that mean that they only need one driver per team, If Whincup is leading the championship, they can put the international in with Lowndes???

Rob
16-04-2010, 08:23 AM
No. It's a 2 driver event for both cars. The international driver has to drive
with one of the regular drivers. Although I have seen it written that the
international must drive both cars......so who knows??

I guess all will be revealed when they do the launch for the event soon.

Sounds like another crock of crap to me....Going by the "Internationals" running order for 95% who have run at Bathurst, give 'em a concrete canyon & the only car left running will be the winner....Should be a grouse weekend for spectacular wrecks....Get your cameras ready !!! :D
