Now this thread will be interesting to sit back and watch...
In the 70's and 80's, car crafting and street machining had just started to emerge from hotrodding, where anything goes...many street machiners were mix and matching bits from different cars/makes to build what the owner thought was a better car...things like commodore fronts on Hq-HZ panos, HQ wagon taillights on EH's, pointy nosed panels on XB Coupes, the list goes on...
At the F1 GP there was a Corvette, with 57 Chevy nose and Impala tail...from most angles it "worked"
But never before have I seen a car so daring as this one, crossing the boundaries of what many would call sacrilege...but there is something that just sems to work with this car (although I think it would look better with a chop top)...if not anything else, it will be a talking point!

Neither do I  :laugh4:
I don't like it lookswise. The Mustang nose doesn't gell too well with the Monaro bits of the car.

Not a monaro rear :p
I was thinking a similar thought.....when I first saw this monstrosity on the original thread, I thought the rear 3/4's was a Belmont !

Not my cup of tea, but the coin will be for a good cause. It is being auctioned.

This HQ Ford thingo looks ugly. Where the front end meets the gaurds just doesn't look right IMO.
Plus it probably cost him more money to make it than buying the 2 cars seperately.
Ah well, each to their own I guess.....

Nice doorhandles.
I rather like it. Nice job. It was their time and money, good luck to them.
Not like it was the last HQ on the planet, right?

Could well be, given the amount of Q's that have found their way onto racetracks across Australia over the last 20 odd years. :D

An interesting combination of 'donor' vehicles!. Great effort by the design and fabrication teams on that project!

And not a lot of them are all that safe imo, should be scrapped.
I would love to own it, just need to take it to a good body shop who could remove that $h!t on the front & fit a HQ clip to it.

As a car builder, i like the idea of doing something different (one of the local mechanics has a XY GT replica with a gen III in it).
If it makes you happy then go for it. Don't build things to impress others, doing things out of the ordinary is what hot rodding is all about. Taste is a personal thing and i wonder if people would be so critical if it was a Nissan front on an old Toyota.
I dont mind it and even if i hated it i appreciate the workmanship that has gone into it.

I like it the hq is a classic shape especially when lowered with a wide set of wheels and tyres. The mustang front looks good on it but they also looked allright with a chromed one tonner grill a mod which would of cost much less and taken less time lol.

Well its different ill give it that.Amazing workmanship and at least they put the right engine in it.

Having used a what appears to be the front from a 67/69 Mustang..is this car the same width or smaller than the Monaro?
dont really like it but others may differ

Im not too crazy about it.I think the HQ was about the most ordinary looking car ever made and i used to own one but im probably in the minority.

I suppose if you win it you can just put on a HQ front end and you have a ready restored cruiser.

Well:eek: wash my first reaction but looking at it a bit closer can see how much work has gone into it.
They have even used buy the looks of it mustang front suspension?? not 100% sure but you can see mustang inner gaurds/with out the famous HQ control arms poking through.
Would look a lot better in a different colour IMHO.
Congratulations on daring to be different, not my cup of tea but done for a good cause.
