It was certanly a great event and it looks good for WEBBER and JAGUAR . Plus Minardi was a bit more visible
That whinger from KMart should expect the rule what goes around comes around and his comments after the Bargs incident at Phillip island are still VERY much in my memory!
The commentating from Neil Crompton was exelent and Billycart woodduck was clearly showing he hasnot got a clue
Great to see a senasational race with so many different teams battling!:)

WHAT A RACE...one of the best in years...would of like more rain thou, and had more passing than all of last year. These new rules will make racing very interesting this year.
yeah certainly looks like it'll be a good year in F1. Especially when they take away traction and launch control when the UK GP comes around. They tractional control on most cars seemed to be working overtime.

looking good alright and with McClarens new car due out later in the year things could become very interesting indeed. Will be watching more from now on.
What happened with the super cars this morning. The only thing i have heard were murphys comments about drivers perhaps not performing as they should in the wet.Was the race televised?

vt2envy,
The supercar race was televised.
At the start of lap 3 Dumbrell lost it at the end of Pit striaght, came back onto the track, then Paul Morris just clipped him and went off into the wall and wrote off his car... both left wheels on Morris' car were ripped off and his front was 2 foot shorter. Dumbrell had damage to the right front, both cars blocked the track. The race was red flagged and stopped, It was declared a "No race' because the race had only completed 2 full laps.
Russell was clearly in front at that stage.

Frosty you make it sound like Morris was at fault.
From what I saw Dumbrell pull out into Morris .
It looks like the entertainment has come back to F1 & hopfully
the V8 Supercar Series.

I saw it, & I think that it was 33% Dumbrell, 33% Morris, 34% visibility. Dumbrell obviously had less than full control & was VERY close to the wall, Morris either didn't see him or couldn't react quick enough to get another 10cm to the right & miss him. His comment afterwards was along the lines of:"some a-hole pulled out right in front of me" which wasn't the case at all. Dumbrell entering the track (he only just got to the edge of it) & Morris clipping him were virtually simultaneous. I'd call it a "Racing Incident". Shame it happened to Morris, though.

I was disappointed though with the broadcast. Woods and Crompton compared to James Allen and Martin Brundle of ITV. They r official commentators and crew and all drivers come into contact with em after they retire. They r more professional.

many thanks frosty...i have just seen some vision on the race and i take my hat of to the boys for havin a crack at it.Comments made about driver attitudes out there are a little strong, just keeping the cars in a straight line would have been a effort in it self.
cheers

They talk of the Finnish F1 and WRC drivers being cool characters, but I reckon the "Joe Cool" award must go to long-suffering David Coulthard who put in a fine effort when everyone around him made at least one significant error.
I reckon the Scot should be mighty pleased with his not-so-sunny autumn Sunday drive.
Plaudits to Webber too; roll on the F1 2003 season !!

Just a thought. Does anyone know how many times a F1 engine would fire in 1 second at high level revs? Any maths people out there.

Neil 'Crumb tin' was good I especially like the part where he shut down the other D%$*head, Bill who? and told him to shut up and be quiet for a minute and listen to the in car sounds of the Ferrari doing 12,000 rpm around the circuit......
That was a highlight for me!
Not too many commentators have done that!!!!! Outstanding :)

I think the F1 engines are rev limited to 18,000 RPM, hence 300 revolutions per second at full revs. Amazing !
I though 'Cromley' did a good job of commentating, but would like to have heard Martin Brundles views on some of the possible strategies early in the race. Does anyone know what Channel Ten's plans are for the rest of the F1 season - will we get local commentary or will they pick up the ITV commentary ?
It was great to see Webber running so strongly (albeit briefly). I don't think we'll see Mark getting a winners laurel this season, but the odd podium might be possible especially given the way the new rules have shaken things up a bit.

Sorry Guys, if I gave the impression that Morris was in the wrong.
I tried to report it as it happened.
I agree with Steve, I think it was a ''Racing Incident'.
Just plain bad luck.
New rules and some different weather conditions for Melbourne.
Has taken until the 8th GP in Melb. to produce rain!!!! Still it was nice looking at it as it heated up here in Perth. Big TV and air con was the way to go on the weekend.
DC would have thought he was at home in Scotland with the weather.
Well done DC.

The firing in one second at 18000 revs a min is 150 times
Piston goes up 300 times stops 300 times down 300 times stops 300 times and every second revolution it gets a godalmighty whack by (slowly!) exploding? fuel/air mixture
I think from memory that the stroke is 40mm or less or 240 meters of distance 14.4 km /minute!
800 HP that is roughly 80 hp per cil which is about 300 cc
The torgue figures are not that great at anything below 11000revs! :D
This is why these sort of figures are the top of technology

Funny you should say that as I thought the same thing of that insident, however after spending some time with the Murph in the K-Mart garage at the island last year, I wouldn't have gone as far as to call him a winger, but its your opinion & your intitled to it.
For a group that were taking things easy what a insident packed V8 race.
I can't wait for Adeliade, when they start to take things seriously.
cheers.

It was funny to see David Coulthard hiding behind his West/McLaren umbrella on the drivers parade. Doing the PR thing no doubt!
David deserved his win BUT watch out for Kimi. He had a drive through penalty while in the lead and on the lead lap remember. He is a future w/c for sure.

aLSO ,DO NOT FORGET THAT MARK WEBBER was more than keeping up with the frontrunners ,was fuelled for 1 stop and was IN FRONT of COULTHARD!!. We will know sometime in the future what could have happened if not one of these bits broke on his bolide. I have worked it out and so can everybody else!
The future is looking good
