Guys,

We have just loaded up some images of the 1986 Grice/Bailey ETCC VkCommodore into the New Model Showroom

http://www.biante.com.au/new-model-showroom_179.htm

Take a look at it, and the Brock/Moffat HDT Car (http://www.biante.com.au/new-model-showroom_175.htm) thats also in the showroom and look at the vast tooling differences between the two.

Not surprisingly, I'm happy to see these Grice and Brock cars come to light.

The funny thing about the #27 car is that it looks like a typical replica model of a high-profile 1980s touring car, highly detailed but for the obligatory missing tobacco sponsor logos ... except in this particular instance, nothing is missing !

Hmmm ... but I'm not sure about the scale of that chain pitched under the exhaust ... it kind of reminds me of something from my long-ago childhood ... something that hanged from a water tank in a small room out back of my late grandmother's house.

I thought we had seen the end of those ugly looking things coming out of the firewall that hold the bonnet. No harm in some constructive critiscism.

What other options are there?

What other options are there?Um maybe go into your local model shop and have a look around, classics have quite a few models with realistic hinges and from pics ive seen the biante sandman has hinges that look a little bit more realistic. Im dissapointed in you richard i thought you would know your product a little better than you do.

The VK Commodore didn't have sprung hinges like on the Sandman. They have doglegs on the real cars so therefore sprung hinges would be incorrect.

And it hasn't been my product for a long time. I try and stay out of this sort of thing as it's not my place to comment anymore but I've seen for a long time people asking for high detail sprung hinges (that look great) on cars that didn't have sprung hinges in the first place.

It seems Biante is damned if they do and damned if they don't???
Much prefer authenticity over practicality.

The only thing, I think there was an option of the small bonnet struts around that time, maybe that was an after market fitment.

Definetly none on a race car though.

As with most new technology, gas struts were an expensive item in the 1980s. It was much cheaper to use a metal stay rod ... but not so easy to work on anything around the front of the engine bay.

I don't see how one could faithfully replicate VB-VL bonnet hinges in 1:18 scale without the damn things breaking away ... the earlier spring style of hinge (reference 1970s Holdens and Fords) when replicated in 1:18 scale allows for a combination of multiple arms and rivets to provide strength to the unit as a whole.

maybe I am mad,
I as a model owner prefer the older thru the firewall original model type hinge,
I have both types in my collection however I feel safer with the stronger style hinge.

just my 2 bobs worth

I concur.

I also have a pet hate for moving parts, 'sun visors, 'windup windows', 'opening glove box’s and centre consoles' and 'handbrake levers', just to mention a few. All these moving parts invite people will little care, to try them out.
Many a model has been damaged by people with BIG fingers and LITTLE brains.

That's my shilling's worth.

Looking at the pics, IMO Biante could've made their dog-leg bonnet hinges a touch smaller, and have them mounted a bit closer to the edge of the engine-bay. The rest of the model looks quite nice though.

Accuracy should be a higher priority than everything else in a model. 'Detail-for-details-sake' is a slight pet hate of mine. Although I do like functional parts. If you break these things, you probably aren't fit for the hobby :laugh4:

I'm over the moon with the ride height on both of these models, a massive improvement over the Grice Bathurst Winner, couldn't care less about the hinges.

I love the differences between the 2 models. A for effort. I'm down for the Brock edition & considering the Grice, yet really want his as raced at Spa.

Not going to turn this in a Classics bash, yet when comparing my 2007 VE Tander Champ winner, vs 2009 VE Bathurst winner, I dont think there is 1 tooling difference. I find it hard to believe that would have been the case with the 1:1's. In this regard, congrats again Biante with the VK Grp A's.

The only difference between the VE's is the switchboard unit is removed on the Bathurst Winner just like the real cars but yes there isn't any other difference and they still haven't gotten rid of those stupid window vents that are from the 2007 Clipsal 500.
