Hello to all. I'm new on here so I thought I would introduce myself and maybe ask a question or two.

My name is Stephen and I live in Mackay, Qld (moved from Sydney 4 years ago). I dont have a massive collection and probably never will, but I do purchase the models I really like (which will probably include every EB model about to be released).

What has really got the old noggin churning lately is my discovery of the code 3 models kicking around (hadnt even heard the term code 3 before a few days ago).

I only yesterday bought 2 Colin Bond Caltex Sierra's off ebay with the idea of converting one of them to the Glen Seton PJ Sierra.

While I have built many plastic model kits in my time, stripping down and completely redesigning a die cast metal car is new to me so please forgive any stupid questions I may ask.

So hello to all and thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

AKO, welcome to the forums. Remember there are no dumb questions and we are all willing to help someone out or point you in the right direction.

Post up some pics of you collection.

Also dont try to keep up with the jones's as it turns very expensive very quick.
Buy the models you like and it will be more enjoyable.

Cheers

James

Welcome to the forum bud. If you havn't already do a search on code 3. It is bound to keep you busy for a few daysI already have and some of them just blow my mind. A greens Tuf BA and Tru-Blu FG? They look awesome but I just dont have the imagination to come up with something like that (nor the talent to achieve that level of finish). I will be doing a lot more searching on code 3's when I get home from work on Saturday night (at the moment I can only steal a few minutes here and there when the boss sneaks out). And I'll post up some pics of my small collection when I get home. They've been stored in boxes since we moved 4 years ago but I need to get them out and check them over as we have had a bit of mold in that area of the house recently. The only model I own that I suspect may be worth more than I paid is my Johnson XD (the one that came with the miniature rock).

Any way guys, thanks for the warm welcome.

Thanks again for the welcome guys. As I said earlier, I have unpacked my collection after 4 years stored in boxes and the story is not at all good. Most of the boxes have either discoloured or have water damage, but worse still my 84 Johnson Bathurst XE had a buckle in the bonnet. I took it out of the box for a close look and as I tried to raise the bonnet the bloody thing snapped in two. Has this ever happend to any one else? Any way I'll take a photo of my collection later but for now here is a list of all my 1:18 cars.

- Dick Johnson XC Falcon Coupe.
- Dick Johnson XD 1980 Bathurst car (the rock).
- Dick Johnson XD 1981 Bathurst car.
- Dick Johnson XE 1984 Bathurst car (what's left of it).
- Dick Johnson 1988 ATCC Sierra.
- Johnson / Johnson AU 1999 Bathurst car.
- Brock 1989 Sierra Bathurst car.
- Brock / Perkins VK Bathurst Winner.
- Lowndes / Crompton AU Queensland 500 car.
- Lowndes / Crompton AU 2001 Bathurst car.
- 2 x Bond Caltex Sierras in transit.

I also have a bunch of 1/43 Biante and CC cars (mostly EF/EL's and AU's) but couldnt be bothered listing them all.

While I never bought these as an investment, and all were bought to display, it is still upsetting to see the damage to the boxes and the XE.

Does anyone have any ideas on salvaging the XE?

Try looking on ebay. There are sellers on there who sell model parts. You might be lucky to find an XE bonnet but no harm in looking or asking the seller if you find one.

hey AKO... bad luck bout the XE...i myself brought my cars to display and not to become an investment but hey each to their own...

anyways there are a couple of blokes on ebay that sell parts...type in 1.18 parts and have a look and ask if they have the bonnet ur after...i tend to deal with 2 or 3 blokes that sell parts

im not too keen on doing "code 3's" because i have next to no skill in that department but i do like to modify em...like take parts from another car and put em on another...

all the best in finding a bonnet to fix ur car...
