Was Watching the V8'S over the weekend at Adelaide and wondered what the hell an Audi Pacecar had to do with V8 racing??
Can anyone tell me why?
I was dissapointed not to see a holden or ford pace car.

But what the hell is an Audi doing pacing the V8's........
Why not a GTP Ford Falcon or even better the new 427 monaro!!!!!!
Now that would be impressive:)

It all comes down to $$$$$$'s & greed.
Ford & Holden were prepared to suppily cars for free to be used for these duties, however it simply wasn't good enought.
No why would we want Australian cars in front of our Australian racing series ???
So it was Audi who decided to give Tony C & avesco a blank cheque so that they could suppily vehicles for them to use.
Doesn't make any real sence, to me.
I suppose it's like most things in life, greed overcomes everything & avesco is certaintly very greedy.
Look what they did to Shell & its' sponsorship of the series. Apparently 1 million per season was not enought to be a championship sponsor anymore. Avesco reportedly wanted to up the ante to 3 million per season for the new contract & hense, why Shell are no longer the naming sponsor. That's why up untill this year there has been no naming sponsor since.
I just wonder how much VB have had to pay to take their place & they're not event calling it the VB series. Rather the V8, presented by VB. It's sounding more & more like nascar every day.
Well, time to get down from my soap box.
Hope this round about answer, answers your question.
cheers.

Greed, or good commercial sense? Whatever else you can say about AVESCO it's been a roaring success promoting AUSTRALIAN (NOT "Supertourers") Touring cars - as far from road cars as they are these days. If Audi is silly enough to give money AND cars to AVESCO to cover the Safety Cars, then so be it. Besides, look at it this way: what better to hold up the Holdens & Fords than an Audi? They certainly couldn't get ahead of them any other way!

I have a friend overseas who is a big Audi fan (why I don't know ?). Does anyone have a good picture or link to one of the Audi Safety Car ?
I'm sure someone will ask the following question, so it may as well be me. Given Minichamps already model the Audi A6 will we see Biante commission a model of the safety car ?

ROB SAID EARLIER THAT THE PACE CAR WILL BE WEARING IT'S OFFICAL PAINT AT THE PI ROUND DUE TO THE DEAL BEING DONE SO CLOSE TO THE ADELIADE ROUND. FROM MEMORY IT WAS A PLAIN SILVER WITH THE 4 RINGS - REMEMBER THE BJ SUPERTOURER TO GET AN IDEA OF WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE.
CHEERS.
