"Bathurst 2003 is a memory and a disappointment that I shall remember for a long time.

To win any V8 Supercar race today is difficult as our business as you are well aware is extremely competitive.

The 34 car was clearly quick enough to win. Whilst being driven by Garth Tander, it set a new lap record around Bathurst with a lap time of 2.08.6726 on lap 90. This was achieved after the GRM team had carried out some makeshift repairs to get the car back on the track after Jamie Whincup hit the wall on lap 64.

To see the Bathurst 1000 sail out the window caused by driver error is a huge belt in the belly for all the team and their supporters.

For the past two years, I have been investing substantial amounts of money in people, equipment and, very importantly, today's and tomorrow's technology so as to produce cars for the GRM team to race and be competitive against the best.

We got started on the Project Blueprint cars in 2002 in order to be at the front of the pack early on. This season we have had substantial setbacks and mechanical problems and have increased our significant investment. We have continued to test and develop and have shown quite good car speed even with our first Project Blueprint car.

Our second car, completed and tested six weeks ago, left no doubt that we have really produced the goods.

It came as no surprise to the team and myself from the moment that we rolled the 34 car on to the track at Bathurst, it was in the top handful of cars on the timesheets.

On Saturday in the Shootout with Garth at the wheel, he produced a conservative lap bearing in mind the race was on the following day and yet still positioned the car on the second row of the grid.

I'm totally responsible for the driver pairings and I made a decision that I thought gave us the best opportunity for an outright win.

I consider that I researched all the necessary information; previous lap times from all circuits (not just Bathurst), drivers race history including crashes and DNF's (Did Not Finish) and whilst history will show I was wrong, I believe that at the time it was the correct decision.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement."

are whincups days at GRM numbered?

Rogers and Tander deserve each other! Was Garry Rogers watching the same race as me? It was only PURE LUCK that Tander did not damage the #34 in his first stint, first with the hit on Jones, then upon entering the pits.
The team is an embarrasment to Holden on all levels.

add to the mix is also apparently GT's contract to GRM is up at the end of the year with teams from both sides of the fence fully aware of the fact..

I don't really like Garry Rogers that much, he should be ashamed of what he said. How would that make Whincup feel? If I was Jamie I'd tell the old **** to **** off.

With or without this uttering by Whingecup the result will be the same; sex and travel for "nappy san"

Maybe if GRM kept Tander and Pretty together they wouldn't have had the problems they had on race day.

What are YOU on about ferrari fan?! To berate one's young driver and then say 'it was my fault he was in the car in the first place' is disgraceful!!! Tander banged up the car when bashing into Larry in EXACTLY the same spot in '98. As I said before, it was PURE LUCK this didn't happen again this year when he and Brad Jones came together. Then you've got the same Donkey losing it as he comes into the pit lane!
If Rogers has a genuine gripe with Whincup then these first two incidents were enough to keep these grievances in-house. It's just amatuer hour over at GRM obviously.

Not that Jamie Whincup was the only driver to make an error at Bathurst this year ....got to wonder how Garry Rogers would have behaved had Jason Bargwanna still been on board with the Repco / Valvoline team ??

I'd also like to see a new livery from GRM, very boring at the moment.

Have to agree on the livery, something new would be nice.
Also have to agree on Rogers. That's what you call a 12 inch knife in the back. Jeez, but any driver can make a mistake & if you're unlucky enough, that's your race. Happens every year. Personally, I'd like my Boss to stick by me should I make an error out on the road.

Just reading these posts I get the idea that things could be very sedate next year.

There are a few level 1 & 2 teams that have struggled all year just to stay competitive and to even afford to run all cars at all races.

If there are also going to be drivers out of contract this year, I would be thinking that they would have to performing very well for other teams to consider them for a drive.

I wonder how many will pull the pin on the program if funds are tight or if they (the drivers) have just lost the drive to compete at the top level.

I dont think that well see alot of the top level teams pulling the plug.. maybe the smaller teams if they have had enough... but I do think we are gonna have another very interesting silly season with driver changes and teams still preparing cars and such...

to say a repeat of the last silly season might be an understatment.. only time will tell.

I too would like to see a new livery from the GRM Team.

Back to the issue originally raised. It was a very interesting think for a Team Boss to say. However Gary Rogers comes up with some strange things.

Tander#34 - No doubt you've figured out I'm no Garth Tander fan!!! But good luck to you and your team of choice - you're going to need it.
It'd be better for the sport to see Tander up there again, no doubt about it. But I've got a feeling he'll need to move camps to do it.

There might be some truth in it, but some things are better left unsaid, Mr Rogers....

GRM strikes me as a dying team...

I would find it a little surprising if they are still racing in a couple of years after the last few bad ones they have had...

Tander has the chance to get up there again.. but I agree that he probably needs to move teams to do it...Whincup. no comment... add him to the Thexton, Morris column for me.. right where bargs is gonna end up considering his lack of performance in the last few rounds..
