I just met Mark Webber, as part of the Challenge he is doing here in Tassie. He was knackered, the poor bugger, but still had time to pose for photos and sign and autographs. I got my Webber First points Minardi signed (never to be sold) and another leaflet/flyer, and a message to me personally. And a photo take with him. Despite being so tired (after cycling over 100km that day), he was very nice and patient and pleasant.

Someone asked him if he knew what was happening next season at Jaguar, and he said he hadn't spoken to the factory for 2 weeks, and that he didn't know who his team mate was going to be for next year.

Would you rate this as a vote of no-confidence in Justin Wilson?

I dont think there is any doubt that
Wilson wont be there next season.

I would have called this honesty, rather than a vote of no-confidence in Wilson.

From memory, Webber has openly said he likes the guy along the lines of ....having a deasent #2 will help the team move foward.... when asked about how he rates Wilson, not long after he joined Jaguar earlier in the year.

Just my opinion...........

cheers. :)

If anybody has a good chance of filling the boots of Worldchampion ,when Michael Schumacher hangs up his helmet is the very same person you just met.
A truely, professional koolheaded professional.
And a nice guy to boot.

I'm not a bit fan of Wilson, but don't write him off just yet. From the ITV-F1 website last week :

Justin Wilson has been given six weeks to prove himself to Jaguar. The team have extended his contract so that he can carry out a test alongside team-mate Mark Webber next month.

Following the test the team will then make a decision on their driver line-up for 2004. A source close to the team told The Sun: “Justin has fitted in well but we have to be convinced he can match the pace of Mark.

Wilson was plagued with a string of retirements in his five races with the team and failed to outqualify Webber, the man he beat in the F3000 championship in 2001.

The Briton now has to prove that the promise he showed earlier in the season at Minardi is still there.

Although this would be your dream pairing(I think)=It just doesnt sound right....An Australian in a Ferrari.......besides,he has stiff competition from Massa and maybe Fisichella, not to mention Alonso,if they can get their grubby mits on him.

Yer must be an imposter and not the real ELVIS, as in his time a certain Tim Schenken drove for FERRARI in several different racing classes , succesfully!.
He has also been linning up in Formula 1 although not in a FERRARI F1.
An Australian in a Williams ,hows about that for a sound?
An Australian on a Honda 500 cc worldchampion times 2 ,howsabout this assa sound? or hitrecord?
Sounds to me as a Numbero uno classic sound, that has already been played many a time

Maybe I wasnt around when Tim Schenken was doing his thang.
Australian in a Williams.....yeah 20 something years ago.
Australian MotoGp=Dont like either rider, and MotoGp is not F1.

Most Aussies will go for Webber if hes a good driver, good guy or not........If he was Brittish,no-one on here would care about him.......I only collect his models because hes Aussie,if he was Brittish or whatever I wouldnt have 1 model of his.
Mark Webber is Aussie=Aussies dont have a big name in F1=Most teams would rather choose a Finnish driver over an Aussie, look how many Europeans are in the field, how many South Americans..........He will have a hard time in F1 because of his country.........Webber is quick, but im not totally fooled just yet.........so far,hes flogged a Malaysian who PAYED his way in,he flogged a ROOKIE Brazilian TEST DRIVER and a ROOKIE Brit who had about 5,6 races...............When Webber is teamate to Ralph Schumacher and flogging him, then ill be impressed, but for now,I wont get to far ahead of myself.

A certain MONTY (not the full:p ) is a teammate:( to Ralf and yer cannot be impressed by his nonflogging performance, so How far ahead of yourself are you on this?

He,He,He......Montoya may not be the full Monty, but who is????You show me a person thats normal.

Montoyas performance is great enough for me,beat Ralf 2 seasons out of 3 times, won a race in his rookie year(How many people have done that)=He may not have been WC yet,but neither has the little bald man at Ferrari,or anyone else apart from Michael in the last 4 years.
Theres only a couple of people who will 'hopefully' take it up to Michael next year and Ralfs name isnt on the list.

Given the friendship between Weber & Shumi & the fact that Shumi rates Mark so high, I wouldn't rule out that one day Shumi might be behind getting Mark into on of the cars from Mugello ???

I know this is purely spectulation, but considering Mark has been such a popular driver amoungst the whole grid, I wouldn't rule it out sooner, rather than later.

cheers. :)

The Name Mark Webber comes to the fore as in his first race in a MINARDI he did score points here in good olde Australia.
HOow many drivers have done THAT!!!

Yes that was great, and I was hoping that Salo didnt pass him,and he didnt, but your forgetting one thing...................Webber has had his best finnish in a Minardi, not a factory supported Jaguar.

I am still on cloud nine after meeting the great man.
To be honest, I can see Mark driving for either McLaren, Ferrari or Williams before his career is over, as he clearly has the skill to win World Championships. He just has to deal with that kid Raikkonnen...

My money would be on either Ferrari or Williams for a future Webber drive. Frank has said he was impressed by Webber's skill, and of course there is that friendship/admiraton for Mark from Schumi. And we know how much clout Schumi has at Ferrari as their favourite son.

All I know is that Mark can't spend too many more seasons at Jaguar supporting the mid-field battles unless he wants his career to falter. Look at Fisichella - a talented man if ever you have seen one, but forced to drive dogs of cars, thus wasting the best years of his career. Who can forget his brilliant drive at Spa in 2001, or the incredible skill he displayed taking Kimi at Interlagos when the weather was appalling this season for his maiden GP win. That is skill in difficult conditions. Mark has the same potential, but more marketing appeal (he's a modern day James Bond), and he is a genuionly nice person - no ego tantrums or crap.

In a word, Mark is the complete package. And provided he can get his bum into the best cars, then he can go all the way.

But drivers (and riders) like a challenge, and do not like winning to be too easy...think of Schuie when he swapped from Benneton to Ferrari...Ferrari were back-markers at that time as Jaguar were last year...

...and more recently Rossi in the bikes...

Even Skaife thought it good when others started to catch him late last year...

Winning aint everything...

Cheers

Maybe not to you and me, but it is in F1!

MOST OF US FORGET THAT MARK WEBBER only got into F1 due to a deal with Mr. STODDART ,otherwise he would still be standing on the sideline looking in.
The Telemetery that is available to all the teams as in sector times are more than wellknown and all teammanagers do know who IS fast and who is not.
JAGUAR IS A SAD TEAM and stayes that way untill they can put an competative ,reliable car on the grid on a consistent base.
The quicker he moves the better it will be.
WILLIAMS looks the option with MONTY scampering off to OJEE.
Borachello could be a spend horse that might be withdrawn before the start of the next race, here is hoping.

I agree with most of this ff & the problem with Jaguar is that it is owned by Ford. With Ford cutting international motorsport to the bone (re WRC), I can't see anythig but negativies ahead for the boys in green.

Hopefully Mark gets the chance to move onto a better team before it's too late.

The thing I didn't quite agree with was the comments about Rubins, he has had to put up with a lot being #2 to Shumi & it would be good if Ferrari give both drivers equal billing, rather than the definate #1 & #2 driver status quo.

cheers. :)

Rubens has been in F1 for many a year,Jordan,Stewart.
Never looked like a winner, (I know he did win! once or twice)
Michael deserves the #1 status full stop , the other driver is just insurance.
An interesting fact has just surfaced in the list of highest earners in F1 ,with Eddy Irvine in the place directly below Michael Schumacher on that list and he is no longer driving!
Michael is the highest earning DRIVER, but there are a few above him with Bernie topping the list

I wonder how far behind them Jarques was ???

I know Eddie signed the deal of a lifetime when he joined Jaguar, so I wasn't really suprised, but the fact that he is still there is suprising.

cheers. :)

Eddies lucky 2nd in the world championship really made him a packet didn't it! Looking at the big picture, I agree with the majority that Webbers' future lies at Williams. The sooner he gets out of the Jaguar the better.
