...has anyone ever bought a model that they already had, in the same scale and packaging? I almost did the other day, and nearly bought the 1/43 Bright 2003 Commodore until I remembered I already had it! Silly me :D

Mmmm.....
Not sure if I'd have admitted to that one Dingo!!!!!
Can't say I've done that. I guess it may come down to how often you buy a die-cast and if you have them all on display.

Not yet................been close once or twice. Could have bought 2 CC AMBROSE falcons (2002) and didn't:(
Worth a fair bit now though.
Only by choice though........not by accident.

Red 1:18 XW, kind of commited my self to buying one from 2 different people. However, one went back. The only other one is Moffat's 65E. One is for display and the other is MIB at a price too good to knock back.

I must admin, I've had a seniors moment & purchased a car I already owned !!!
I bought another Craig Biard Pirtek Falcon back a few years ago, thinking it was a new one, not realising that I already had it on my shelf at home.
At least it was only a 1:64 scale so it wasn;t such an expensive mistake.
cheers. :D

I had a bit of a no brainer moment the other day when I pre-ordered the CCs 1:18 Ambrose Pirtek BA Falcon which is apparently due out in March 2004..
I bought two identical models once, but that was a deliberate choice.

like he said, he had a no-brainer moment where his brain had temporarily packed up and gone home leaving him to make wild decisions without considering the concequenses. (happens quite often) so i spose i could forgive him on the ambrose car. and besides, ill be getting a sierra next year. and ive been known to have bought a couple of XT GTs and an XC cobra. (all to be modded)

Aaarrgghh! What are you going to do to the Cobra? If it's just lowering it a bit, maybe you can tell me how it's done! If it's spraying it gold and adding extra spoilers then don't tell me how it's done....:D
As for buying more than one model, I ended up with 2 of a hard to find car - I'd bid for one on ebay, but had ordered one from a dealer, thinking the ebay one was going to go for silly money. It didn't, and I got both! As for accidentally doing it, I haven't with models but I have with driving 80km to photograph an 11th century building I forgot I'd already done, and I mapped an igneous outcrop twice because I approached it from different sides on different days in a big mountainous area. Thought I'd share that one, as I expect you've all done it.....

Merry Christmas mate, look forward to some interesting reading from you next year!

You should be able to buy a couple great Holden models with the money when you sell it. When I buy 2 of the same model it's usually on purpose. I bought 2 Donut King Utes in 1:64, because there are 2 real ones. I will be buying 3 more Stormrider utes soon, because there are 4 real ones!!!

Speaking of Ambrose '02 AU's, was there only 1000 of those made? If so, amazing. There will be a lot more BA's, that is a given.
I read the other day that CC are only doing the LMS cars in numbers of 500 each in 1/18. Will that make them more collectable? They struggled to get rid of 1000 of Larko's 2002 AU. It was the best looking car though I reckon.
Most of the new CC 1:18ths were only made in numbers of 1000 so I'll be surprised if they do make more than 1000 BA's. Maybe with the demand for Ambroses car, they might.

I'd say so - I read that on their discussion forum from memory.

The 2003 BA PIRTEK - Ambrose car should be available around March 2004 according to CC.
Although when i asked what numbers they were making there was the response of "were not sure yet".
Regardless i have my pre-order with Stanbridges as i'm sure the car will prove to be very popular once again.
Cheers,
Timbo.

My model retailer told me yesterday that C:C's were waiting to see how many orders there were before they were made....I guess with the popularity of the 2002.....it makes sense, and he also reckons they won't be out before March

So does this mean 1500 or 5000 cars :D ???
Would it be interesting to know, as I'm sure there are a lot of people who are wishing for a small number so that they can make a fortune out of them & those who wish there are a heap of the so that everyone can get one.
cheers.

I heard the run of Ambrose BA's is gonna be around the 1200 to 1500 mark....
CCs are trying to make their cars more valuable by having low production numbers (look how hard the VU SS red hot ute is to get already and its only been out a month) apparently most stores in Eastern states are already sold out of them...

But CC's only sell the car once. If it becomes more valuable due to its rarity and demand, then its only the people who buy up bulk and sell on later that are going to make any money from them.
Why only make 1000 of a certain model when they know they could quite easily sell 2-3000 and make more money from it.

Ahhh, two ways to skin a cat...
Build more and sell more....(but have the occasional model that just won't shift 5000) OR
Build less, sell out and boost the after-market price...this creates a "false" market where people buy the model the day it is released so that they don't miss out or so that they can make more money...
What is better advertising? We sell out in under a week, OR we sell 5000 eventually...
Luckily for us, Biante have chosen the model that benefits the collector more...(although they still don't make enough sometimes...)
Cheers

They're a pretty good company really, because I would rather be able to purchase it retail than have to pay an over infleated price on the 2nd market, just because someone want to take an extreamly cautions route & only build a thousand units.
For campany that does not have to, they (Biante) sure do a lot for it's collecters, which is more than what I can say for a lot of other companies & I'm not just talking about the diecast industry.
While I think the days of extreamly high build numbers (like 12,000 for the 1st Brock Torrana) are over, I still belive that building only 1000 units could in the long turn be harmful to a company. It then makes those 1000 units aweful expensive as they try to re-coup all the associated building cost over such a limited run of models.
cheers. :)

Mind you, that 1st Brock Torana is still a fairly sought after model despite the fact that there were 12,000 made. You can probably pick up most of the recent Bathurst winners at prices cheaper than a 28c.

I guess its the mentality that gives the avid CC fans the idea that their precious CC models are better and worth more then the biante ones given there are less CC ones floating around on the aftermarket for inflated prices..
pity though it seems that to date the only CC model that is that highly sought after is the ambrose AU falcon from 2002... hence why I think this years is gonna go well also..
btw. for those collecting the SANDMAN.. its now a run of 3000 and not the original 6000 quoted (found out today from local model shop)
