Hey all.
Just wondering if anyone can point me in a direction to a decent display case?
See my friend brought an awesome one from a phone shop which was closing down for $250. They werent selling it but he asked and wallah, did a deal. It was a phone display case so its huge and fits in without a word of a lie about 40 or 50 1:18th at least, which you can see in the attached picture (he has something like 30 in the case pictured)
I am trying to get something like that, as I dont want to resort to building my own (it'd be more like a wreck then a case).
I was wondering if any of you collecters out there may know where I can go to get a case similar in size to the one pictured, or even for the interim until I can find one where I can get cases to fit 1:18th scales?
Its just I have them now in an old TV cabinet but it only fits 4 1:18 squashed side by side so you can see them and now I go to add more to the collection there is literally no room.
Maybe even a TV cabinet might suit, I am sure you guys know the sort of thing I would be after especially if you collect many 1:18 scale
Thank you guys and I hope to hang around here more often and make some friends who enjoy collecting Biante's (no serious lol)

Thats a real nice display case. I have been also looking around for something, might try that approach. Give this mob a try, I havent been there yet but they are advertising on tv. www.majorcreations.com.au you may have to drop the S off the end, try both

Thats a really neat display case. Might have to hunt around for something similar!
A lot of large department stores have display cases like that and before I got my one, I often thought about asking if they had any damaged ones that they wanted to get rid of. They are ideal for models and a lot of the time are lockable as well.
It might pay to ask around. $250-00 sounds like a good deal too.

Check out 'shopfitters' in the yellow pages. They often have second hand display cases like the one shown.

I don't know about any display cases like that but your collection looks awesome. What have you got in your collection.

Spot the Holden! A very nice collection, and a good case, but isn't there still a problem with dust getting in? had an IKEA case for my mineral collection, and dust was a real problem. Is there such a thing as a dust-proof glass case? There must be! Otherwise that case would be exactly what I would be after.

the link is good they have a great range of cases hope the prices are in the affordable range.have a cabinet of 2100w 800d 2750h purchased from a jewler shop that was doing a refit came with down lights and fluro's top half will hold 45 to 55 1/18 cars + 20to 30 1/43 cars still working out how many i can fit in bottom section. cabinet only cost $400 would have cost a couple of grand when new.:D

Geoff - thanks ive bookmarked them and will have a proper look later on
V8SS - yes, I reckon $250 is alright for it. Apparently the shop brought it new for just over a grand or something but because they were going out of business the owner was more then happy to make a few bucks on something that would be otherwise useless (unless he collected models but obviously not)
Terrine - thanks, although I'm a Holden man I still have to say he has a nice collection

Jager - thanks, thats an awesome idea! I would never had thought of that to tell you the truth and yes, they would have damaged ones (easy to fix) or they would at least have contacts that could help. I'll investigate that on the weekend
Y2Joel - its not my collection, its my mates. I can ask him for a complete list if you really wanted although as you can see a whole heap of fords!
Nick - the only dust proof cabinet I can think of is one that would have a rubber seal similar to a fridge door around the door to completely seal it in, otherwise yes a dust proof cabinet is hard to find, and what annoys me is the dust in the Biante 1:18'th scale as they are so hard to clean the interior
James - similar to what my mate did! How did you go about it (did you just walk in and offer $$ or what?). I'd be interested to find out how you obtained it as that is something that I'd love to buy (especially if it held 50 odd 1:18 - that'd keep me going for ages)

I was with my mum in a jewelry store, while she was looking at whatever **** they had, i was eyeing off their display cabinets for my models. At the top of the cabinet was a bit of tubing going into the roof, which was connected to a vent in the cabinet. Dust extractor. Theres a way to stop dust problems.

the refit was done by a sydnry firm so the "old" cases were left tobe disposed of by the shop owner .living in a small town you know lots of poeple so was easy to talk to owner of shop paid cash and loaded onto ute in 2 pieces delivered home, base of unit is used for storage of empty model boxes.they hade several units but was only able to buy the one.will post pick when i can get hold of decent camera.

re: dust
nice cabinet by the way
the display cabinet i have was made by my old man of jarrah so the top etc.. is designed in a way that falling dust cannot really get in. the only area that would get dust coming through would be the doors but thin felt that around the closing edges would fix that, you could not see it when doors are closed. however, I have not got around to doing this as hardly any dust gets in, probably only need to dust the cars/shelf about once every 3-5 months depending on how often i open the doors.
best to have a look at the design and make sure is solid with good joins so as to be well enclosed: hard to explain but yeah... could be expensive but...
main point: felt!

Mux - thats true, I have seen similar tubing in cases before but it didnt even cross my mind
James - Ok cool, I thought you may have done that :D
Paranoid - Felt, thats an excellent idea. I was on the right track lol
I suppose with such cabinets they dont collect much dust (as they are designed not too) but without the addition of felt or the like dust would still creep in through the gaps between door and case.
Thanks for all your suggestions and ideas guys
