Who is going to win the Melbourne Grand Prix 2004?
With a week to go and the cars/equipment/teammembers and drivers winging their way to our lucky country, the above Question could be asked and provide some interesting points of view.
In my ,humble, oppinion Ferrari will be succesful with the Renault not far behind.
McLaren seem to have dropped the proverbial ball, but hopefully I will be wrong
I am trying to post a poll, but am not sure how to do even this

I chose Ferrari, but if BAR's times in testing are on large fuel loads, then they could be a good dark horse for a podium finish.

I think it would also be interesting to do a poll on which team you think will be the first to retire in the race & for that I would be chosing Jordan.

cheers. :)

FOr the first race of the season i think its an educated guess. I'm going for team Williams.

But i want it to be a great race, probably with Ferrari close behind.

I'm actually looking forward to the Bahrain race as this will be a new track to everybody, probably in trying conditions too!.

Cheers,

Timbo.

My old man's on his way driving across the Nullarbor now as we speak to make the GP and then back through Adelaide for the 500.
I chose Jaguar cause I figure (in all high hope) that it's early in the season, teams are still not 100% ready, the race is a toll taker and a bit of a mixed bag.Add some inspiration and hopefully Mark Webber can pull it off.I think he will, but it will more likely be in a Williams in a couple of years.

I chose McLaren, but think they will be handicapped by having only one driver with a realistic chance of winning it.
I think the Williams will be strong as will the ever present Ferrari.
However, the two teams I am most looking forward to seeing if they improve is BAR and Jaguar.

I've got a feeling Alonso will be going all out this year. He has proven he's got what it takes and I reckon the top teams will self destruct and a Renault will sneek through to take a first up win.

How come Stone Brothers racing arnt on the list?

i reckon that during the F1 race, russell will come speeding on to the track via pit lane, with a angry skaife running behind him! depending on skaifes stamina, and if he can make 60 or so laps of albert park at about 150kph i reckon ingalls in with a chance!!!

A 1930ish pushrod design heritage limmited to 6500rpm is no match to 2000ish desigh with 18500rpm.
That is why.
By the way the "first win Malaysia, Kimmy" 1/18 is coming to a shop near you and the total L/E is 2220 ex.
If this chap winns this year this will go nuts like the "Alesi taxi"
very nice model with a separate figurine.

Will get one, only problem is I seem to remember this car being'West' branded! :(

ferrari fan
27-02-2004, 06:57 PM
No ,no "WEST " brandname on it ,just Kimmi.
Minichamps #530 031 826.
Got it,through the Australian Importer and the retail shop from heaven.:D

wayno
27-02-2004, 07:28 PM
On the model maybe, but all the shots of the car on that day on sutton motorsport images have 'West' branding. Unless I've got the wrong file.

ferrari fan
27-02-2004, 07:42 PM
Well, the rest of the Minichamps F1 collectors in the world are after this one as it has been sold out instantly and bidding for this model has started in earnest, so.

It is still a very desireable model, it just would be nice to have such a historic car represented as it actually raced. Excuse me for being pedantic!

I chose McLaren, my first gp I seen on tv was a win by prost in the Malbrough colours, same as Brocks VK. So thats how I became a Big Mac fan ........mmmmm

Do you all collect the Minichamps/hw F1 cars as well?
if you do what do you collect like ; 1/43 or 1/18? ,only McLaren or only Jordan?
There is another forummember that is into the McLaren camp
He has treatened to come over and have a beer with me but so far no beer;)

For me personally it's 1/18 and World Champions only as I am trying to preserve some space to actually LIVE in the house. Must admit to just breaking that rule with the Webber Minichamps Jag. And for some reason I have a Coulthard MP 4/12D Mc Laren that I don't remember buying.

The cars have arrived .and the pits are being stocked.
The exitment is getting there and even the V8 racecars are nearly ready to do their bit.
Maybe an other poll should be attached to this one re the likely winner of the V8 Supportrace
I personaly do not know who to go for!
I prefer a smaller team to get the limelight.

What is a McLaren MP4-12D? is this the orange testcar? or the "west" racecar? the D ,I cannot recal as a code.

wayno

Normal season colours. As I said, I don't even remember buying it. Number is 530 971810 McLaren Mercedes MP4/12.
I have just realised the D is before Coulthard. The space is huge and the D looks like it's attatched to the car designation. Don't I feel like an idiot!
I don't know what to do with it as it really has no place in my collection.
Also noticed in the city that a certain model retailer is back in town. Went in for a look today and lo and behold, there was a Minichamps '93 Prost. Then I saw the price ..... $800.00!!!!! I actually thought about buying it as this gap in my collection is killing me, but 800 big ones is a lot of beer at the GP, even at on track prices!!!!!

ferrari fan
01-03-2004, 09:15 AM
Maybe it does fit in your collection as this one came second to his teammate the GP in Melbourne 1998 a very staged win/race that was predetermined at Qualifying or first corner drag.
Not that easy to get anymore and you would not have difficulties selling it

wayno
01-03-2004, 09:44 AM
Maybe I can sell it to raise some funds towards that $800 '93 Prost! :D Geez, I want that model!

ferrari fan
01-03-2004, 01:45 PM
$800 for a prost#2 Williams FW 15 is a bit steep in my book, but who am I to argue.
You should be able to find this at a more realistic $
Then again $800 in beer is a waist.
Stay home sell your ticket buy a slab and voila there is the model!

Knowing myself as I do, if I drink the beer the model will come home with me as well! ;)

Thanks kiwi, looks like I'm going on the wrong day as there is only going to be one race on Friday - 2hr of F1 practice is good but more V8's would be better :) !!!

What i do know is that the F1's hit the track for the 1st in 2004 at 11am, so if your going Friday, you've just got to be there before 11.

cheers. :)

2 Laps in first practice and a new lap record!!
What an awsome display of meistershaft!!
Not voting for FERRARI seems to be out of the Quesation.
Melbourne is definatly the place to be!
The V8's looking and sounding great as well and even the Formula FORD's are great.

Jozz The Bozz in real terms or Mark Webber!
Jack Villeneuve if it was possible ,for history reliving itself.

Jos never had a good car to realy prove the masses on the wrong side of the fence,
He is VERY highly regarded in the inner circle of F1.
In the ARROWS and Tyrrell he did wring the very best out of it.
Ken Tyrrell saw in him another champion!
Sadly Holland is like Australia; not big enough in marketshare worldwide.
