Well,...Girls and Boys it that time of the year again!
What time?
The Model car Expo here in Perth on the 19 of May,and in the same venue as the two years before.
So I have let you all know in time and there is evcen time to join the club to be able to put up a display of YOUR favourite models and even to think of a theme
My theme ,,as per usual, Ferrari with some Formula ones
There will be some seriously interesting displays of from what I have heard plus the chance to buy that long dissired missing model and maybe there will be a display again of Biante with the
Prototypes and the forerunners of what is to be had over the Next 12 months ,But I do not know if Trevor and his team will grace the Expo ,It would be the first time that Trevor and Bev are not there
see you all there

For those of you in Perth I agree this is a great event with about 40 different enthusiasts displaying their collections.
Last year there was something for everyone - displays of Biante cars, collections of Formula 1 cars, rally cars, hot rods, trucks (vintage and new), steam engines, construction equipment, military vehicles, police cars, plus displays of different marques such as Holden, Ford, Chevrolet, Mercedes and Alfa Romeo.
Its great to see these collections which often include models that were released 10, 20 or even 50 years. For those of you who are new to collecting it is a great way to see what else is available and talk to serious collectors who can advise you on how to put your collection together.

Because of the above (other subject about tobacco branding) discussion, nobody will be able to display converted carmodels on this or any other publik accessible show so almost all the coldwheels f1 ferrari's are staying home with exeption of my converted monza 2001 car
The above disscussion has had a big bashing before in the old forum and does not need to be dug up and gone over again
just a reminder ,you are allowed to leave your packet of smokes on the display table together with your mates different brands all day and nothing will be said or done about it ,legaly not covered if it is for personal comsumption but a decal of the same brand on a modelcar that was splattered all over the media including tv in time when every body can watch and with a general rating, this is a crime and a potential 20.000 fine and even more for a corporation;;;; sorry I forgot myself ,where did I put my 1/18 2002 minardi model again.i am getting old!
the law is an ass and full of holes but it is the best we have. we have to live with it for now.

I envy anyone in Perth who has the opportunity to attend a model expo. I only wish there was something similar in Brisbane and if anyone knows of such a thing, please let me know.
Thanks

Hi Ferrari Fan
I had thought to leave the Alfa's at home this year and display my collection of '49 - '01 LeMans winners for something different. Unfortunately 5 of the LeMans winners between 1982 and 1988 carried cigarette advertising which have (suprisingly) been faithfully reproduced by Minichamps, Quartzo & IXO. Is it illegal to display these models in a public place, or just illegal to offer such models for sale ? ? ?
Hey ferrari fan, would this expo be at the Clermont showgrounds? I remember a couple of years ago something like that being held there. I wasn't a model collector then so didn't take much notice of it. The other thing I had in mind, how about a little meeting of forum members for a chat ? I for one would be interested to learn more about model collecting. What do others think ?

Hi there hati and jager .
Jager first ; As far as I am know it is illegat to display in a publik domain tobacco advertising
This include even the original racecars as far as I know
I am a scrutineer at rally australia and they had two (young) not knowing a thing, officials from a department,I think health ) that were there soly to check for any tobacoadvertising on the driverssuits at the scrutineering bay while in the official section open to the public was a stand with a AudiQuatro which had the HB ,and ROTHMANS decals still on it and in full view even where the two were sitting !!!???
so this also includes the modelcarshow Bring on down the alfa's and your very interesting garage display anyway(hope we can have a Italien corner
Hati ; there are a couple of way's to go about this
1 join the model car club and attend the meetings
2 make a time and place to meet in private
I am open to either of them just let me know
regards
ferrarifan
What I had in mind is nothing formal, just at the expo perhaps an "over the counter" chat, or going for a coffee on the showground, or something similar. I wouldn't mind the collector's club idea, but my business takes up a lot of my time, would miss a fair few meetings I think.

Hi Hati (and other Perth collectors)
The model expo will be presented by the West Australian Model Collectors Club and held on Sunday, 19 May at the Canning Agricultural Hall on the Cnr of Station Street and Albany Highway, Cannington.
The show has been held at this venue for the past two years and typically attracts 2 - 3,000 collectors during the day so its a great place to informally meet like-minded people.
Thanks Jager, I'll be there :)

Jager is the man with the interesting garage full of alfa's
and I have a stand with ferrari's and formula 1 and maybe some subaru's !/18 on show
I think that it is safe to say that biante also ,like every year have a stand where they have prototype's of the models that are to be released .,last year I had a chance like everybody attending to admirre the green dick jphnson xwhatever ford and what a great model that is including the backwheels
besides our stands there is an amazing array of models to be admirred.

If i had a collection to display and didnt want to lose a couple because of smoke advertising i would cover the offending word or even modify it, as far as i know, there is no such smoke as mdlbdro. Ive seen this done in cartoons and such. bear in mind im one of those sinners who take my models out of the box and handle them. With a bit of thought some safe way of hiding or modifying an offending decal may be found. If it is kept minimal few people would even notice, such is the power of the subliminal mind. I may be full of poo, but if I was lucky enough to have a unique collection to display/share I would be having a bit of a think......
Personally Martin, I don't think you would have any trouble. Reason #1: model collectors will come to the expo mostly, very unlikely anyone would actually complain. Reason #2: people noticing it would actually have to know what exactly they can do to complain. I would take my cars if I was in you shoes just to show them to people who appreciate it. :)

I am in a lucky circumstance ,because of those many years of collecting that I can easily display other models and not have to use the smoke decalled models.
the only thing that the public will miss out of are the current F1 ferrari's as these,(Realy looking well) due to the decals, are all converted.
this year I wll do Ferrari roadcars and a rally display with some real driverssuits and also some real dress shirts Peugeot and the like
I was going to do the F1 in 1/43 including the Qantas Jordan ,but after being robbed of my wallet with $600 in it at last year's show by some lowlife,I will not risk such a valuable model.
By the way the show is on at the 19 of May and not the other dates that I did mistakenly told you all about
hereby my apologies for this mistake

I hope to be able to meet and talk to as many members on this forum as possible and as long as it is pleasant , hopefully Jager and myself will be not to far away with our display as last year
I will have a coulpe of early Commodores(racecars) with me ,for sale as I do not have the room to display these well ,and I have decided to stick to the Bathurstcars only.

just got my monthly magazine and yes it is open to the publik from 9.30am
saturdayafternoon willbe setup and saturday night I will try to tell you what you could expect to see,
there are armed guards there the whole night and these meanies are only to pleased to get some action and trigger happy
most people set up there stand and bring the valuable cars in the morning
I am looking forward to a great day amidst the models and people that are likeminded.
I believe that Jager already has got the packs of red bricks delivered to the site for the construction of his Alfa Veloce Garagistemento, Bon Appetito, Maestro, Mille Grazie, Ciau!
