View Full Version : Jaguar XJ-13
I just ordered the last one off biantes site (temp out of stock now). Anyone have one, it seems they are very hard to come by. Heard its a great model though. Wonderful detail? Are they right?

Hello Odin ,
I have this model in my collection and it is fantastic !
You can see some detail pictures at this site :
http://www.scale18.com/cgi-bin/search18?func=detail&item=aa73541
Not shown in the pictures are the grilles behind the doors which open to reveal the fuel filler cap and battery ( they hinge at the top - by the way ) . This model is almost equal to Exoto standards - it is so good that I keep mine in a proper separate display case - the only model out of the 550+ in my 1/18 collection that I do this with - the rest still sit on shelves in their boxes !!
Hope this helps Odin ,
Regards , Terry

The reason that this model is hard to come by is that it still remains probably the best AutoArt model to date. Considering, that this is a model of "one off", not so famous car, most collectors bought just for the level of detail. There is no hint of AutoArt usual propensity toward "plasticky" feel. It's not an EXOTO or CMC, but it's pretty darn close. You'll be extremely happy as nothing have been overlooked. Also, you'll have to buy AA E-type Jag to keep it company. I've posted many times on other boards that AutoArt Milennium Edition modela have all the details that I need at a price I can live with.

Yep, it's a stunning model, with that "something extra" - an indefinable added quality feel. And parked next to my AutoArt shortnose D-Type and XK-SS it looks fantastic! Roll on the longnose....

Odin....
Yep I'm with Nick!
I have over 50 Jaguars of varying sizes and by far, my favourites
are XJ-13, Le Mans C-Type, and Le Mans D-type. All in BRG, they are a formidable sight. Remember, like the C & D Types, the XJ-13
was created for the sole purpose of winning races, so all three of these models, creates a great history lesson.
Go on, - I dare you......get the others too!!
Cheers

Great model of such a pretty car. What a pity it was never developed for competition.....

If anyone wants a 1:1, Lynx make them for a mere £100000 or so. Handbeaten aluminium bodies, perfect in every detail! They will also build you a D Type or XK-SS if you have the cash....I'm sure they have a website.
And the history of the car is interesting too - Norman Dewis, Jag's test driver, managed to roll it off a banked track in 1971 while making a film, and destroyed it. Took a long time to restore....

Yes, there are a few companies that make them, but many are of fibreglass with Ford mechanicals etc, with a few of aluminium. Lynx are generally regarded as the best of the lot, with aluminium bodies handmade over wooden formers, XK engines with authentic bolt-on period hardware etc. Quality reflected in price of course, but stunning cars in their own right, and oddly not really regarded as replicas anymore! A bit like the Safir "Mk.V" GT40s - very expensive nut and bolt recreations of the original, with JWA permission to continue the serial numbering from the original line-up.

The footage of this car on my Goodwood 10 years double DVD set is amongst my favourite cars (BRM V16 wins hands down). One day I hope to see it in the flesh.
