holy @(#$%& I paid $440 back in November 2003. I thought that was expensive at the time, guess not. I guess it has become sought after as the 65E got out of some peoples league but that is surpassing the 65E price tag - strange. Watch those #1Ds start going up.

the exception rather than the rule i think

check this buyers feedback
50 buys in the last 3 months, the last 23 from this same seller
this buyer is also the top bid on the same sellers DJRXC at $355 with 3 days to run.

where do you find woodducks like this?

50 buys in the last 3 months, the last 23 from this same seller

Buyer is the Seller ? ? ?

Is someone trying to manipulate the market. ie Sell the 64E for a dummy price, then relist the car a week later and hope that people will pay more because a new 'record' has been set ?

Plus, it took two bidders to get it to that level. Someone had to bid just under him to raise it. Man, oh man. What a windfall for yourmodelcars.

Hmmm. I wonder if, in the near future, the 61D will pass the 1D in value? There are two 1Ds at $345 and $300, neither of which has a bid.

I agree the 1D is a nice-looking model, but what is its significance in racing history? The other three are no-brainers, but this one leaves me mystified.

This guy/person certainly has too much money or doesn't understand the pricing of cars or possibly both .What price is this guy prepared to pay to have cars of interest in his collection. Surely this type of purchase is well and trully out of the reach of the average collector. Just my opinion , but I'm definately not in the same league.

That's gotta be an anomaly or someone not up to speed on current values. Even on DMC's website, you can buy it $400 (and that's STILL out of line, market-wise).

It is possible that DMC have that car undervalued on their website. I advised them of such a possibility yesterday. It will be interesting to see what happens.

But there really is no doubt, the price will climb as time goes on.

Seen the twin mirror currently sitting at $1500.00 on Biante Auctions???

Hi all :) ,
The value of all of our (collective models) is of great interest to us all, but the more important question we all have to ask ourselves is:

"Would we sell our models?"

At one point in time I had to sell 98% of my collection. The decision was a "No brainer" for me aas my family's needs come first & foremost.

Even at what I consider to be ridiculous sums, I would NOT sell my models unless something dire happenned to my family. My Wife & Son are of paramount importance to me and worth far more than any model. So if it came to a decision to sell my models again or the welfareof my family, family win hands down all the time.

I have seen on ebay a couple of weeks back that the '69 Moffat XY went for $305.00 At the moment they tend to go for between $205 and $260 The most expensive I have seen the 65e is $800 last year and if you can pick up the 64e for less than $600 bucks, then you have been charmed for sure. This collection of cars along with the 1D are the most sought after pricewise. Wonder how quick the '73 Moffat Bathurst winner will climb after it gets released?

It is a wonderfull model, and the yellow lime colour does set it off very well.
It also does not have these awfull front panlids on the wheels and therefore does show the wheels in all it'ds glory, unlike the kermit ones of DJR.

I have to agree Kenseth. I'm looking at consolidating my collection in selling 'second' issue cars such as Moffat's 61D (along with a few others) to fund prior releases such as 64E. The closest to under $600 I've seen on ebay for the 64E has been $591.

There have been a few earlier ones on Biante's auctions that went for around $500. You do have to be careful of dreamers though. Currently on Biante there is a 64E at $620, 65E at $720 & (get this!) 1D at $760 all not reached reserve EXCLUDING buyers premium. I tell you what, if someone wants my 1D for $760 you can take it off my hands no worries!!

Yeah I was playing catch up with the DJR 89 Sierra paid $468.00 including postage, 84 XE paid $402.00 including postage, Moffs 70 Bathurst Winner paid about $650 including postage and all I need now is the 71 Bathurst Winner. As you say, selling some cars here and there just to get this rare 71 Winner is the only way I could afford one.At least they do come up from time to time I guess.

This shows how scary Biante Auctions are. By the time you add commissions etc, the 64E would cost $688.20 plus post, 65E would cost $799.20 plus post and the 1D would cost $843.60 plus post.

I'm thinking these prices are for the elite, not the rest of us. And with bid increments at $55.50 including, you wonder why these don't end up getting sold. To think they might only be $10.00 off hitting reserve, and an actual sale.

And did anyone happen to see the 65E on Biante Auctions last Saturday night?

I logged in with 15 minutes to go, and the car wasn't there. There was a 1D, but the 65E had vanished. It wasn't in recent sales, and shouldn't have been anyway, as the hammer wasn't supposed to fall for another 15 minutes.

Obviously there is a bug in there somewhere.

I wonder how many other cars have dissappeared before the hammer drops, to the detriment of the seller, and buyers.

I had a similar problem yesterday.

Auction was meant to finish at 10pm, i checked at 8:30 and it was nowhere to be seen.

Its not in my winning or losing auctions, or anywhere else in my user history, but I have a receipt.

I've sent an email to auctionadmin and am awaiting a response.

Its just disappeared too....

I had been thinking along these lines to come to the conclusion that the price will never come back down, so got mine six weeks ago at $740 after it passed in on Biante Auctions.

While I wasn't happy with the price back then, having passed up one for the sake of $20 at $620.00 a month or two earlier, I am starting to smile now.

Although to have the complete Moffat collection I am smiling big time. (Even though the 65E isn't part of the official Biante Moffat collection, I still regard it as part of the Moffat collection. - Collection number 0)

Somewhat, because Tony has done an EXTREMELY good job on the car. If he tried to pass it off as real, he might fool someone.

But, no matter how good of a job one might perform, there are certain VF XY facts that would make it hard to pass as a true 65E : (1) the twin mirrors (2) different bonnet striping (3) different engine wiring (you could tear out the extra wires, I suppose) and (4) a little notch at the base of the hole where the bonnet hinge fits.

I will grant you, though, as the value of this car continues to climb, more people might be tempted to fleece the unaware.

Haven't some Minichamps collectors put together a document to help prospective buyers spot fakes?

Additionally, what do you think Tony's car would be worth if he tried to sell it honestly as a clone? It's VERY nice... and he invested his time, decals and major parts of a Goss XY and VF XY in the process.

Great job Tony,

I am thinking i may end up doing this to get a 65e as well.

The problem here is that with the price of that car getting up to crazy levels, anyone who wants a complete Bathurst Winners or Moffat collection will have to find one or make one out of other cars.

Im not really concerned about the box or the certificate, I just want the winner from that year represented so making one myself is the perfect option.

I guess its always going to be difficult to fool someone when you use water slide decals too.

The price of this car, plus some others, will probably tempt some 'professionals' to create the cars, create the coa's, boxes etc, and flog them off. And if they number the COA's above the 6000 mark for the 65E for example, it may not be noticed by the uninformed. Duplicate COA's probably wouldn't be picked up anyway, even by us.

Now here's a thought. How many people here can say that Biante have replicated the 65E EXACTLY as it was in the 1971 race, with font sizes scaled exactly, all sponsor decals etc, stripes, tyre tread (start of race maybe) interior details etc.

How do we know we haven't been duped by Biante? :D

thanks troy, the only reason i put this 65e up was to let some of the members know there is and alternative. rather than paying crazy money for a real 65e with a certificate. if most of you are like me you just want the car to display with the rest of the collection. if you do decide to make one be sure to use clear coat enamel paint or clear fast dry finger nail polish over the decals. you want have to worry about them peeling up or discoloring in the future. i do have a real 65e in my collection at home. i made this one for my girl friend. she likes the aussie falcons also but shes on a tight budjet. i was really pleased with the way it turned out. but i have been building models for 30 years, experiance help's. i havent sold any of my models nor do i intend to, god willing. im in the diecast colleting for the cars only. not to make a quick buck. i dont see anything wrong with making a model that looks like a 65e for your own private enjoyment. specially if you truly just love the cars as i do. you are correct brett about the differances between the vermillion fire xy gtho and the 65e. but there was one more you forgot about. the vermillion fire had rear window louvers also. i left them in my girl friends model just so it would be different. im not trying to fool anyone with it. i just like the way it looks with the rest of the moffat cars. someone trying to make a buck would remove them in a heart beat. but to anyone here that really wants a 65e i would try this method first. specially if the model is all your after.:D

How it is that this model is SO expensive ,beats me
There are 6000 of them arround!
Some of the other models do have a LOT smaller issued # and where will they end up?
Only a true collector/enthusiast can tell the difference between the 1969 and the as yet to be released #9 1972 model as they are all orange all have decals on them, and do look very simmilar.

There were alledgedly 6000 of them released.

We know at least one has suffered some unfortunate fate, and there are probably quite a few others that have come agutsa, as this car has been around since 1998.

Who knows how many exist as single car collections, collecting dust in some forgotten corner.

And how many have been thrown out by parents etc, not knowing what they are worth, thinking they are just grown out of toys, etc.

And there are all the Moffat collectors that won't give up their car for anything in the world.

So that doesn't leave too many to be made available for sale. While I can't quote exact figures, it wouldn't be anywhere near 6000.

A little while ago, I would not have been able to tell you which Bathurst the 65E belonged to. But I would have been able to tell you if it were a XW (1969) or a XY (1972), and I'd say, Red at that.

But apart from that, there certainly are similarities between 61D, 64E, 65E and 1D. :)

Tony/KRF -

Hey Tony. I hope you know I wasn't having a go at you. You did a fantastic job!

KRF, I knew about the roll cage and CoA. I think Tony swapped interiors for his. I was trying to mention differences that might be nearly impossible to cover up/modify for the casual person.

A missing CoA was a given as we are talking about someone (not Tony) attempting to pass one off as real who could raise the excuse that they "lost" the CoA.

A true CoA-less 65E should still fetch a decent price. Sheesh, the broken one was at half RRP last time I looked.

An excellent point, Leigh, but would someone halve the value of a car they currently own to take a chance on getting caught selling a fake? Maybe they wouldn't care because they would never sell it.

Consider the broken 65E currently on Ebay. No mention of a CoA with it. Now here is where the unscupulous person could make it work. Sell off a fake with the CoA for market price and buy a real one with the proceeds. You're out the cost of a VF, which still sucks, but a lot less.

Would someone even think to check over a car if it had the CoA? I only checked my 65E for damage.

I think goblues said if it (the broken 65E) had a CoA, it was "potentially worth heaps". I think he's right.

Man, $101 with a few days to go. The thing is beat to hell. Fascinating.

no sweat brett, i know you weren't taking a poke at me. i just wanted to make a point and try to help out some of the collectors here. that they can make a 65e that looks as good as the real one. it should satisfy even hard to please collectors. i really like my girl friends alot, i guess you appreciate it more when you make it yourself. Leigh you made a very good point about an unsrupulous person might sell the fake with a cerficate. dam i hadn't thought of that.LOL!! but on the other hand, you would be stuck with and original with no certificate. that would kill the price of it wouldnt it. i saw the junker on ebay yesterday while i was doing a falcon search. its unbeliveable what some people will pay for a junker. it would make a good diorama piece though. if you had it on a lift with some mechanics rebuilding it. :D

I've spoken to the seller and he has advised me that what you get is what's in the photo. i.e. no box, no COA and no brochure.

If someone else has a damaged genuine 65E, then this may allow them to make one good one out of the two.

We'll just have to wait and see who the winning bidder is, and make a note of that. :(

So........

All those that just want display cars, can sell their COA's, Boxes etc. Nice cash cow!!!

Personally, while I don't intend to sell my collection, other than duplicate cars that I have bought for just that purpose, it's nice to know that my cars are absolutely complete. With Boxes, COA's and Brochures where applicable.

Also, I guess it's easier to take the COA touring, to your mates etc, than take the cars. Makes a nice 'scrap book'. :)

P.S. Anyone got a 1:18 65E box for sale? I'm fair dinkum.

Just food for thought.
These 3 following models have recently been released by biante in 1/18 scale and there is a huge difference in $/value and frequency of sales. ( info gained from ebay sales and biante auctions).

Brock/Richards A9x (Nov 04) = 35 sales total $13,388 ave $382

Richards/Coppins ford ( July 04 ) = 10 sales total $1,545 av. $154

Longh/mezera sierra ( May 04) = 46 sales total $6,313 ave $137

I still can not understand the low turn over of the richards/ coppins falcon. I think it is a great model. are they really not selling or are just people hanging on to these?

Also i can not coprehend the high turnovrer of the brock / richards a9x. If you add up the sales and models listed for selling there are nearly 75. Most of the sellers have faily low seller rating on ebay. How did so many models get to non collectors hand ? ( assumption on my part )

I'm just glad I bought mine when I did , got it 18 mths ago at the Adelaide Toy and Collectable Swapmeet/Fair from a dealer's stall MIMB for $250 , I was rapped with it then but as time has gone on and they are becoming more popular and sought after it's now more of a bonus to have got it at that price .

The plaque is also a very nice addition to the set , the quality is absolutely superb and I'm rather surprised that these haven't gained the popularity they deserve , they really are a first class peice of memorabillia .

One thing to ponder.
If nobody wants to be seen paying more for something than was offered before, the whole world would be a very stale place.
Real estate, paintings stamps/coins, SHARES, etc, etc. are items that change in apreciation constantly.
It seems that this is also the case with certain diecast models of the BIANTE/Minichamps range. plus others.
It is an exeptional compliment to this producer to see that a model like the 65E is able to atract $1000 each.
Sad if you want it , sound if you have a spare or 10!

Inter - do the prices on your scan contain postage?....the only reason i ask is i see the lowest paid for XE '84 is $167 which i think might have been me. I bought this last Jan or Feb with a Buy It Now $150 + $17 for postage. I couldn't believe it, the whole week while waiting for it turn up from QLD i kept thinking there must be something wrong with it, but sure enough when it arivied, she was spot on, and still one the best stand outs in my cabinet :)

Now if only i could find a #1 cobra for good price???? Any chance of a #2 cobra Biante? please, please! :)

Christo, that is a good buy.

No they do not include postage, Did you leave feed back to the seller and vice versa. I no feed back is give i do not mark it as sale ( a biT suss).
If you did then i missed it.

$500 for a cobra is a new record.
One sold 4 days ago for $305 AUS plus postage ( total of about $323aus) That is a cheap as i have seen them lately.

Thanks inter...I didnt think that you would include postage, after all it would be to hard for you to know who's being charged what. It was just i seen that price of $167 and i thought thats spooky thats what i paid. Yeah we both left +feedback for each other, he was a good bloke so there was no worries there.
I was just browsing ebay (as you do) and he had just listed all his Johnson cars (there 7 or 8 of them), all starting with $50 bid or $150 buy it now. My first thought was this guy is mad and then my second thought was this might be a scam and then my third thought was if i sit around thinking about this any longer there all gunna be bloody gone, lol
So i grabed the '84 and then i went to get the '89 Bathurst Winner and be the time i opened the auction page someone had beaten me to it, so i left it at that. Anyway about 2 or 3 hours latter i thought bugger it i'll get the '81 XD but by that time most of them had had bids placed. I watched the '81 pass through for about $250 at the end of the week, lol ;)

This is directed at Inter.

What is the value of moffat federation falcons, both yellow xd and black xc?

What is the slowest selling falcon racing car?

Do you keep records of Holdens?

You must have a lot of time on your hands to keep all these records, can you do insurance values?

Please respond before this evening there are some items on ebay that i am intrested in and they finish tonight.

Ethically maybe, but technically (and legally), once the said item has been given away so to does any right to what can or can not be done with it. Unless a contract was signed by both parties agreeing to certain terms and conditions.

Perhaps it's more about the very limited numbers for one of Australian motorsports most famous racing numbers ???

I know there a quite a lot of collectors out there who would buy it not because it was driven to no success by Steven, but because it's part of the Dick Johnson Racing empire.

i do understand what your saying, and i know he is running a business.

but his prices seem to suck newbies in and often these people stop collecting becuase they are buying stuff at inflated priced?

minimises the amount of people into our hobby and this must have an effect on companies like biante,cc,trax.

If there is a higher turnover of stock at lower prices this would keep the industry going and posiibly introduce new model maker and a bigger variety.
I know this will probably stop models ( slow them ) going up and up like the 64,64 moffat cars or the 28c, #1 XU1 torana but who cares,
We are doing this for fun not investment.

My thoughts ?????

i do understand what your saying, and i know he is running a business.

but his prices seem to suck newbies in and often these people stop collecting becuase they are buying stuff at inflated priced?

from a person who intently keeps records i find this a ( don't get me wrong) strange comment?
why do you keep records then?

Rehau , I don't think it's strange ;) , it's a part of taking interest in the hobby and not only done for Leigh's personal interest but he shares his findings with everyone here for their benifit also .

I have been collecting for a while and although I have no plans to sell my models I also find it interesting and am always researching or keeping an eye on what models are going for , and not only models I have purchased but any model I find appealing or would like to add to my collection .

I visit Ebay and online shops regularly , not to sell or purchase but out of curiousity mainly just to keep tabs on what the diecast market is doing which I find is part and parcel of being an avid collector and showing a general interest in our hobby. :)

Yes, but, my goodness... how much a newbie does one have to be to not even notice other examples going for cheaper ON THE SAME WEBSITE ?!?!?

Where, oh where, are the lazy, cluless people when * I * want to sell something?

I'm keeping an eye out for feedback on this one. (which I know you do as well, Inter) Had I known the fellow's email addy, I would've broken eBay rules and offered him my extra one for $200.

But, like others out here, I don't blame Darcy's. Good on them for getting double market value for the car!

On one occasion, an auction I had for an Ipod shuffle (the 512 model) finished at $130...retail was $99 and that particular week they were on sale at most stores for $80:eek: I gave that person some money back, but had to keep some to cover the extra ebay fees!

This was a 99c no reserve auction...so I hooked two people!

To Inter,

what is the current average price for the 79 a9x sold on ebay, because I have not seen many sold near $300 and I lot of the people who had them at $300 are struggling to sell them at rrp.

This is the problem when you do have an item of great demand and it may well have been sold out on site and in most shops , but if a great number have been sold to people who bought multiple purchases purely for profit then the open market is going to then be flooded by those models from these people .

Then of course the price inevitably falls to a slump because with that many on the open market at once and the prices being high people who still want one are going to wait for a better price , and with 11,000 models made that many that are left on the open market may well exceed the demand required from those that failed to originally secure an order therefore in the end the price will settle to a figure much lower than when people panic bought at a higher price when the fear of missing out was high .

Exactly. Think you will find that the price was up at first due to fact that a lot of people paniced and were trying to get this model.
So now there is probably a few store around that still have stock for sale and therefore the price will come back to where it should be. The panics over - maybe.

Thanks Tumbo .:)

How's this for a nice price for the '79 Brock A9X , My wife and son went to the Auto Salon car show here in Adelaide and they were selling some models there and had one of the Brocky A9X's for $195 but were willing to Knock another $20 off for them making it $175 , what a bargain but the thing is they didn't buy it and didn't tell me till they got home . unbelievable hey!
I've already got one so I'm not too phased about it but I guess I could have used it as a swap though , oh well hopefully another enthusiust managed to snag it for that price .

Bianteking,

I have been watching the sales just out of interest and as at 8pm tonight, 12 have been sold on ebay thus far since the release, there are about 29 to be sold inthe next 8 days, and a few were 'passed in' for not reaching the reserve.

Of the 12 sold the average price is $259.25 with an average of $14.50 postage so the total delivered A9X to your door is $273.75.

i would have to agree with most others it appears that the majority of these 79 a9xs have been snapped up by speculators and seeing as so many were made the price is bound to drop..I didnt even place an order with my retailer and he rung me up and offered me 1 from what i see on ebay the 78 is pulling more money...but in contrast 12 000 28cs were made and they command a fair price... off the topic a bit today i finally got around to reading the last amc and noticed the BIANTE add of wich i can see being a big plus for biante sales and the value of some of the older releases..
