I was answered in a previous post (thanks stonee) advising us that 10,500 1:18scale Lowndes 2001 Bathurst Cars have been built. What do people think about this number relative to the likely collectability/desirability of this model? I know there is a fine line between wanting easy access to a model and also wishing for it to become collectable but I'm a bit concerned it may turn out to be similar to the Brock 28C model of which Biante made 12,000 and it hung around for quite a while in shops until it sold out.
I cannot help but imagine how the prices would have soared had Biante only released between 5000-6000.
As my user name suggests, my brand loyalty is obviously directed towards Holden yet I am always bemused how the values of Fords always seem to out do Holden (both in models and real cars). Many people believe the 00 car will be the model of 2002, so I am interested to hear from others if you think this high build quantity will be a help or hindrance to fulfil this expectation.
Cheers.........Bob.

I think it is far too many however I attended several races last year and people were screaming out for them. All comes down to supply and demand I suppose. No good for the collector who wants the models as an investment but these guys are running a business.
Look good displayed in the cabinet if nothing else.

I also think from a collectors point of view that 10.500 units is too many, but this particular car is very well known, unlike the toranas and xb's etc etc, it has already sold out on the site, that is a fast as the greens tuf sold out. I dont think there will be any loitering around stores for long. It also gets a lot more people involved in our hobby.

I too think that 10500 is a lot. However, this particular model seems to have a lot more interest than some other models and appears to be selling quite quickly.
U could always buy two and say that u have one in every 5025.?
Cheers
:D
My local hobby shop had a lot of pre-orders, they couldn't even guarantee that I can get one (00 Falcon that is). So I ordered one directly from Biante. Someone said it's a matter of demand. I think 10500 is not much if everybody is hangin on to their models, rather then try selling it ( as some people already do in the swap/sell/buy section). No amount is too much if there is none available once they are sold out.

I dont care how many are out there. I collect models cause I want one to display, not for an investment. The pricing should prevent any Biante models becoming like those whale pictures a few years back, looked nice but every house had at least one.
If Biante can release cars of this quality and as popularity of V8 supercars still grows, in a couple of years people who dont collect now will be after one, just as I was when I got the 28c Torana last year.

If there was no certificate no one whould know how many there were.
At least Biante has the collector at heart and numbers them all. How would you feel if all of a sudden there was another run of Track Red XY Falcons made after you had you just bought one for a huge price to fill your collection?
How about buying the model instead of the Certificate?
Have a good look at it. This is the best model yet and is sure to be a top contender for year 2002 model!

I think alot of people do care.......
Part of the fun of collecting these models is seeing your investment appreciate over time. I'm not talking about people that buy numerous quantities of each model and then try to make a quick buck 2 days later.
For anything to be a worthwhile collectable their needs to be potential buyers somewhere down the track.
Hypothetically, if Biante would hold stock of all models all the time by topping up their stock I for one would own (as opposed to collect) maybe a handful and not the 33 that I actually do own. Each model would be worth approximately half of what you pay for it. Whilst some would find that appealing, I personally do not.
I see little value in collecting something that every Tom Dick and Harry can go out and buy, think about that.
It is my belief that the long-term desirability of a product is closely linked to the availability. Take a look at most things that people collect such as stamps, coins, art, jewellery, even bubble gum cards...... the thrill is getting hold of something special is what make it fun. If anybody can get it, it no longer has the same buzz.
