Seems Loeb is out where we all expected him to be on tarmac after stage four. Duvall is second with Sainz third and Solberg fourth. Poor old Gronholm in the 307 has retired already! I think the title chase could be over very early in the WRC this year which is a shame after the epic battle we had last year.

Duval has dropped back to 3rd behind Sainz, apparently due to gearbox problems.....i hope someone other than loeb wins tho, its starting to get boring- bit like back in 2002 w/ Gronholm and makinen w/ his 4 straight titles.......loeb is a champion and all credit to him w/ his speed and consistancy but its starting to get boring......so far the pug's have died a painful death, ford haven't really put up a fight and subaru- well don't get me started on the new front wing degisn......

if loeb wins that will be 5 wins in the season, loeb stands a good chance of beating Auriol's record of 6 wins in a season

Luckily Panizzi not hurt as much as first thought.

Official: Panizzi brothers given all clear.
Mitsubishi Motors Motor Sports has revealed that both Gilles and Herve Panizzi escaped injury during their accident in special stage 9 this morning.

Both crew members were driven to a local hospital by medical personnel in the stage, however, after x-rays, the team can confirm that Gilles is bruised and sore, but has no broken bones. Brother Herve is also fine

got nothing to do w/ the garage.....there have only been 3 retirements, albeit in a row- one of those is down to the front wing, doesn't cope w/ water splashes. also accounts for some of the bad results......plus hte car has never been good on tarmac, was interesting to see them win tour de corse last yr

Add to that the fact that mikko hirvonen is young and in his first full season, and didn't have the time to learn the car- member that he did have to stand in for burns who has his brain tumour.........at the end of the day Subaru has 3 world drivers championships and 3 wmanufacturers titles, they dont have to prove anything, peugeot is the same- 6 titles, however many driver's titles, looks like ford and citroen are the ones w/ a point to prove.....

what bout Markko- he was a title favourite

Did anyone catch the footage of Solberg's crash? It was a monster!

Channel Ten news showed some in-car footage which was a bit hard to follow, but the external after-crash shots showed the car was absolutely wrecked!

Luckily the co-driver sits so low in the car, because Phil Mills is a big boy and the rear end, right-hand side of the car, and the roof above where he sits, was totally stoved in.

By the way, after 'retiring' early in the rally Gronholm won the last two stages, while Loeb won overall.

Not yet - I'm just a little bit behind in watching my motorsport videos...but I did see photos of the car afterwards in various mags and yeah, it also looked pretty "understatement" secondhand.

I only caught a brief glimpse of the Solberg one on the news, and it looked totally destroyed. I tried to find some actual photos of it on various sites but was unsuccessful.

well im very dissapointed .
i just cant wait untill a ford screws up.
but it is highly unlikely as fords dont have much speed in other words no speed at all.:D

Tell me about it. There's a photo in the current Auto Action that shows how badly he tore the car up.
