V8 team's illegal test probe
By Ray Kershler
August 24, 2004
A PROMINENT V8 Supercar team is under investigation after allegations the team was caught red-handed this week at an illegal test session - one of the cardinal sins of the sport.
It's understood the outfit is said to have been caught secretly testing on an airstrip in South Australia.
If they are found guilty they could be fined up to $250,000 and stripped of competition points.
Each V8 Supercar team is allowed only six test days a season, which must take place at a designated track in their home state.
All testing is strictly monitored by officials from Avesco, the controlling body of the sport.
Private test sessions are not allowed under any circumstances.
Testing, along with tyre control and electronic monitoring, is one of three cornerstone issues of V8 Supercar racing that allows officials to control the equality of the series.
An Avesco official yesterday confirmed an ongoing investigation into the allegations.
The Daily Telegraph understands that a senior official saw at first hand the team personnel with a V8 Supercar.
Avesco officials yesterday refused to name the team.
They would only say there was an investigation taking place to investigate a breach of the testing regulations.
"The matter is serious, but it is not as cut-and-dried as it might first appear," one Avesco official said.
According to V8 Supercar rules, a stewards' inquiry will consider the allegations against the team.
But a tribunal from TEGA, the body that controls the V8 Supercar teams, could also be constituted to examine possible breaches of franchise licensing agreements.

I have heard on another forum that this was Team Dynamik with all sponsorship on their car and transporter covered up... BUT I STRESS..... this was only a rumour. I have no facts about this claim whatsoever.

come on guys, why would HRT, SBR, DJR, KMR or any other interstate team travel to Sth Oz to test there cars on a airstrip the hope of not getting caught?
I'm sure any extra info they could gather, even if it is how fast their car can go in a straight line, is worth the cost of fuel for the truck and the wages for the driver:)
Never know, it might've been someone testing their family SS :p
"ah yes officer thats right we're from a V8 Supercar team and, um, yes we are allowed to test our car on a closed to the public air strip, honest!"

As I read through the posts I thougt, hang on there was a Round of the Konica series last week. Many level one teams were in SA that week.
It took all the way doen to Martyn to get teh Banana.
BTW beats me why, if they want to control costs, they doent ban testing all together and start each race meeting on a Wednesday allowing teams two full days of testing on every track prir to each round.

with the sponsorship covered up with gaffer tape, and a transporter and support crew, also with authentic gaffer tape...:D
Seriously though, they must have been pretty desperate for some testing to resort to these measures...

I'm still sceptical, i mean why risk it for one bloody day ?? Maybe they are still searching for "THE HOLY GRAIL".....

There's always the possibility that some of the boys decided to take the car for a bit of a spin...

True, or maybe it was Biante getting a good "inside out" look at the chasis or maybe it was a hot lap winner or something ?

You never know...it would be a little bit tempting....
I hope someone took photos so that we can all argue later about the correct placement of the gaffer tape on the model...:D

team dynamik is not having the best of years.
EG:
last year jason richards was running 2nd going for his and the teams first podium but guess who just had to stick his nose in.
of course it was skaife.
they both spun but richards came off second best.
also at the last round team dynamik looked like they could bag their first round victory with simon wills qualifing 3rd.
when he came in for his pit stop the weel would not release and he dropped back to 29th.
he fought his way up to about 17th.
in race two he went from 17th to 7th. the car had the best speed all year but went to waste because of a stupied tyre.
and now the team facing a fine i wounder how they cope.
cheers:)

Funny, I thought Jason was extremely optimistic going for that pass on Skaife and was never going to work...

he would of pulled it off if skaife wasent so uptight.
skaife probably knew if he blocked richards they would both spin.
thats exactly what he done but he got what he deserved when bingall took him off not that im a fan of ingall its just what he deserves.
as you saw it didnt go down well with skaife.
he cursed ingall when he went past he also went to the stone brothers garage and took all his anger out on them and after the race was finished skaife was ready to give ingall a blast.
accidents happen in motorsport(but i think ingall planned his one on skaife:D ) and you have to get over it and move on just like jason richards did.
cheers:)

Mate I was at Sandown and saw this incident first hand right in front of me. Jason simply had a rush of blood in torrential conditions. If he had have shown some brains his team would have won the Sandown 500.
Mark is not perfect, but if you blame Skaife for that then you are a bigger tool than I thought.

We all know its Dynamik that are the offending party, the question is what is Tega and Avesco going to do about it, after ther Ambrose and Richards debarkle and them saying they'll be coming down hard on offenders from now on, let see if they have the balls to really nail Dynamic if it is proved that Dynamik are in the wrong.

I wasn't intending to condone your attitude of being above the law.
I'm glad you're a cop(this week anyway) in New Zealand and not in good ol Gozzy....
Has anyone else seen the DVD yet???

I wonder if avesco will throw the book at these guys due to the two big teams getting a slap on the wrist & the bad press this has caused....???
Also, with AVESCO winning the battle with JFR over the Qld 500 deal, it could see them having quite a financial month to two.
With a $250k fine hanging over your head for such a breach (oh & the loss of 100pts), I wonder why anyone would be so bold to even try & cheat.
I’m sure there are plenty of us waiting for the outcome of this one, come the Sandown round where the hearing will be held.
Cheers. :)
