I was wondering who has camped before in the paddock? How far are the power poles from the sites?

From memory none of the sites have power, we certainly never took anything that couldn't run off a gas cylinder or car battery. That's how we're planning to do things this time as well, but there may well be power available these days...

We had power when we camped in the paddock in 97, which was the last time I stayed down the bottom. I think there was one pole for roughly four sites. I think we had to run an extension card for about 15 meters.

I stand much corrected then, I haven't been for a few years :D

It depends on what part of the paddock campgrounds you are staying if you have access to mains power or not.
Down the bottom it is no problem but once you go past the sealed road from to support paddock their are very few.
We used 240 tonne dumptruck batteries last year with an inverter it worked well.

I have seen sites with small fires but I think it would depend on fire restrictions.
A couple of years ago security was making sure that camp fires were not in areas where they could get out of control or near other flammable objects.
best bet is to check wiht the guys at security when you arrive

I'm not sure about fires, although I'd doubt the lighting of fires are alowed for a few reasons, 1 being I think the bushfire period begins in September which requires all fires to have a permit otherwise their put out by the fire brigade and a fine issued, even on private property and 2 it has been pretty dry lately plus 3 would be insurance issues, I'm sure if your camp gear or even you yourself was burnt due to someone elses camp fire you'd want to take action against that person to pay for your stuff, or your medical bills!
this said it hasnt stopped more then a camp fire in the past
I dont know what was lit in 2001 but from pit lane on the saturday we could see a massive smoke column from the redi park / sulman area!
there is power down the bottom because i know guys that go there regularly and last year they setup "camp" where there was mains power (for the TV of course lol) but i like the idea of the dump truck batteries!
