With the price of petrol going steadily up, I thought that this would be relevant, notwithstanding that most Forum Members seem to Petrol-Heads.:)
What is more important to you, Power, Economy or a balance of the two?
Also, what is the best figure you've managed to record, real world, no cheating. Our current car, an EF 4.0 litre Auto has a best of 29.45 mpg set a couple of weeks ago going to the snow. My best ever is 54 mpg in a twin-carby 998 Mini-Van.

I've no idea how to equate my numbers into mpg, but I've been averaging 12.1Lt/100km in the SV8 over the past 5000km.
That a smig over 8km/Lt.
Personally, I love having plenty of power under my right foot & if it mean, that at the moment, I'm a little cautious with when I use it, you still can't beat the sound of a big V8 :D !!!
I vote for POWER !!!
cheers.:)

Brchi, that comes out at 22.52 mpg. Not bad for a huge V8. To convert to mpg, first divide 100 km by your 12.1 = 8.26 kmpl. Then multiply that figure by 2.725 = your mpg.

Thanks Steve ;)
Considering the Suby did 41mpg with an engine that's about a 3rd of the size of the SV8, to do about 1/2 it's mpg is not that bad really, I love it :D !!!
I'm going to do a 5000km run on PULP soon (when the prices goes down a bit) to see if there is any differences between the two fuels & if it's worth using instead of ULP.
cheers.

Yikes!!
My weekend cruiser 351 ute is getting 11.847826086956521739130434782609 mpg.............
(Go the scientific calculator...)
Might be time for a tune up!
Ed :)
I haven't done any proper comparisons but I'm sure my 5.0 VN SS is more economical than our 3.8 Ecotec V6 VT S which is weird considering the VT is bog standard and the VN is not exactly standard:( so I voted for a balance of both. Compared to the VT though, I get power and economy out of the SS.

I'm in the 'Don't Give A Toss' category as i am lucky enough that all my fuel is paid for by my company. So is the Tickford Falcon that i drive around on a daily basis..................:D
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh........company cars are a wonderful thing!

My 2 cars - 5.8 Cobra and 1.0 (or 900-odd cc) Suzuki Swift. On a Sunday morning with quiet roads I'm less likely to pick the Suzuki, and I'd be an idiot to commute in the Cobra! So a bit of both, and this is in a country where the $3 litre is almost a reality (well, $2.50, anyway)!

What  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds like you need to get it re-tuned, that is aweful !!!
Dad's got a couple of customers with 351's on lpg & they get closer to 5km/Lt
My old XF (which ran lgp) was heavy on the juice & it still averaged 6's, with plenty of power.
It wasn't a cheap conversion kit was it....???
cheers. :)

Used to get 15mpg out of the old 350 Monaro, but it was hard to resist opening those second barrells on the 650 double pumper.
Man what a rush..!
At least it used less petrol then the E-49 Charger, best that ever got was 9-12 mpg...!!!!!

I seem to remember that US Gallons are a little smaller than Imperial Gallons? That would make your figures a little better, in our terms. Speaking of your Plymouth 340, I saw a pristine, stock-standard Valiant Charger the other day, just a little red badge on the side - 340 - which I think makes it an E55? Valiant experts?

My one & only V8 - a 307 in a SWB Landcruiser - used to get 16 mpg around town & 19 mpg highway, usually towing a trailer. That was a 4-speed manual with Fairey Overdrive attatched, which gave me 8 gears in high & low range, a total of 16 different ratios to play with. On Fraser Island, however, we "achieved" 9 mpg. SOFT sand. In a mate's 302 XB, I managed both 7 mpg & 19 mpg, both around town.:D You guess the throttle settings.:)

im not sure about the 340 valiant charger. i have seen one here in the states with a 318 v8 in it. my 1973 plymouth duster has a 340 cubic inch v8. it has 10.5 to 1
compression pistons. the heads have been ported and polished with a three angle valve job. it has a purple shaft 484 lift cam, mopar m1 intake with a holley 750 dualine double pumper feeding it. i had to play with the jets in the carb until i found the right mixture to make it run smooth in traffic. right now i geard it up to 323 ring an pinion for better gas milage. it gets about 13mpg around town. if i put the 391 gear in it it drops to 8mpg.
click this link to see a picture of my duster.

Nice car 11500. Am I right in assuming that it's "related" to the Dodge Charger? As in "Dukes Of Hazzard"?
Valiant Charger V8's. As far as I'm aware, they came with the 318, the (very rare) 340 & even the big ol' 360. My favourite Valiant V8 is either the AP6 or VC V8 with the 273. NICE motor, very similar to the Ford 289 to drive. The VC V8 had ELEVEN V8 badges inside & out, believe it or not.
