I do know that Graeme has a full set of the Bathurst and ATCC anual books that have been issued.
I have been trying to get the full set together, but am stuck at the issues from before 1982.
are there any available other than the BILL Tuckey one that deals with the beginning and goes through till 1980.
I also have managed to score the Motor racing year's of 1965-66 and1966-1967 and International motor racing book #4 (1970) but these do not have any info on Bathurst ,they deal with the F1 and Euro racing in that year.
This book collecting is a very specialiced field indeed.
Bill Tuckey did the first book in 1980 - "Australia's Greatest Motor Race". This covered 1960 -1980. The first annual was done after the 1981 race, so your collection is pretty close to complete (closer than mine, in fact and I've written bits of it since 1999).
I saw the 1981 book on Ebay not long ago - you'll just have to keep watching.
There were also the Garry Sparke books that were done for seven years during the 80s - nowhere near as comprehensive - I DO have all of those.

I have been collecting these books also (see below), I have a list FF if you want I can email you a copy.
Basically you have:
James Hardie/Great Race annuals from 1981 upto 2003 but before that there was the Australia's Greatest Motor Race which has been released three times.
You have Aust. Greatest Motor Race - The Complete History 1960 -1980 and the seond edition 1960 -1989 and then the third edition 1960 - 1999 which cost $165 and is available from Chevron.
There are the thinner versions as Moxo said and they went only from 1982 - 1988.
There are also the Australian Competition/Racing Yearbooks which went from 1971 to 1995. These books cover all forms of motorsport including F1.
I only started myself not that long ago and still searching and finding new things.

Got the full set:D
There are two others that I think have not been covered the V8 Bathurst books by chevron for 1997 & 98 when the super tourers took the October long weekend race.
There was two book published for each year 1 V8 & 1 Two litre.

The V8 Bathurst book for 1997 also came in a soft cover version as well as hardcover.
The 1987/88 James Hardie book came out in a different version also that was issued to drivers, officials etc. It had a different cover plus 13 extra pages.
The 1960 - 1999 Australia's Greatest Motor Race book came out with a special TRAX / TOP GEAR edition limited to 500 copies.
The Garry Sparked BATHURST books from 1982 TO 1988 has quite a few different covers on those books also. For example the 1988 book which usually had the Longhusrt Sierra came out with a DULUX cover showing a car being repaired.
So if you are a completist then you would need all these variations.

Which cover is the 'different version'? I picked up a copy with the photo of the race start on the cover while I have also seen copies with the Brock Commodore.
I never knew that there was a difference otherwise.

The 1987/88 James Hardie book with the Brock Commodore is the standard release, the other version (James Hardie 20th Anniversary edition) with the dust jacket with the photo of the start is the one that was given to drivers, officials etc.
The other difference is that the 20th anniversary edition has 13 extra pages that are not numbered between pages 17 & 18.
A copy of this book sold on ebay last week for $25.00.
I believe this edition came in a plain cardboard box with a letter to the recipients.
I have both versions but would like to get a copy of the letter that came with this book.

Barra,
The extra chapter between pages 17 & 18 is called THE NAMES BEHIND THE NAMES.
The 20th Anniversary edition would be much rarer in my opinion and was surprised that a copy sold for only $25. This one was listed twice with no bidders the first time around.

This sounds a lot like some of the battles I've had recently on TradeMe trying to fill in the empty spaces in my collection of 'World Rallying' books. The highest I paid was $150 for the first in this series, and I gave up trying to get the '78 book which finally went for $250+. I now have most of the series from 1-26, except volumes 9, 10, 12 and the earlier '78 book. Anyone out there want to sell them to me?
(Apologies if this post is a bit off topic)

Thats it FF. i dont know why those two are so hard to get. you can find most of the rest in second hand shops.

IIRC, the reason the 90 books (AMRY and The Great Race) are so hard to come by is that they were produced in smaller numbers, then a warehouse fire (or was it a flood?) reduced that number even further! That's why, if you see one, grab it straight away! Or rather, let me grab it straight away and you can have the next one :D
BTW, on the 87 book, I have a feeling there were two different versions of the Brock cover; the main one (predominantly dark blue, entitled 'The Great Race 1987/88') and another lighter blue one entitled 'James Hardie 1000' with larger photos. IIRC, the GP Productions book had about three different covers that year, didn't it?

You could try going to some swap meets, I have found many of the old Bathurst/ATCC books there.

In my limited experience the Racing Yearbook of 1990/91 is very hard to find, I got mine for $20.00. Out of all the Great Race and Racing Yearbooks I would say this is the rarest beast of all. I can't recall ever seeing one on ebay and the only copy I've seen in the flesh is the one i have..

I heard it was fire in 1990 and a flood in 1982 whcih made the 1982 Bathurst book a bit harder to find, yet these pop up a lot.
But basically anything published by Chevron around 1990 is hard to find and this includes FORD- The Racing History.

AUSTRALIAN COMPETITION/RACING YEARBOOKS.
1 Australian Competition Yearbook 1971 159 pages
2 Australian Motoring Yearbook 1973 216 pages
3 Australian Competition Yearbook 1974 232 pages
4 Australian Competition Yearbook 1975 194 pages
5 Australian Competition Yearbook 1976 194 pages
6 Australian Competition Yearbook 1977 177 pages
7 Australian Competition Yearbook 1978 162 pages
8 Australian Competition Yearbook 1979 192 pages
9 Australian Motor Racing Yearbook 1979/80 216 pages
10 Australian Motor Racing Yearbook 1980/81 240 pages
11 Australian Motor Racing Yearbook 1981/82 255 pages
12 Australian Motor Racing Yearbook 1982/83 272 pages
13 Australian Motor Racing Yearbook 1983/84 320 pages
14 Australian Motor Racing Year 1984/85 320 pages
15 Australian Motor Racing Year 1985/86 320 pages
16 Australian Motor Racing Year 1986/87 320 pages
17 Australian Motor Racing Year 1987/88 320 pages
18 Australian Motor Racing Year 1988/89 318 pages
19 Australian Motor Racing Year 1989/90 304 pgs
20 Australian Motor Racing Year 1990/91 288 pages
21 Australian Motor Racing Year 1991/92 304 pages
22 Australian Motor Racing Year 1992/93 304 pages
23 Australian Motor Racing Year 1993/94 304 pages
24 Australian Motor Racing Year 1994/95 288 pages
25 Australian Motor Racing Year 1995 287 pg
The first issues 1-7 are softcovers and the rest are hardcovers. You'll notice that in 1973 it is called the Motoring Yearbook as it incorporates the Competition Yearbook. For some reason they combined the Motoring & Competition Yearbook together that year.
Editions 1-7 cover the PREVIOUS years racing, for example the 1974 Competition Yearbook covers the racing of 1973. The only one I'm not sure about is the 1971 Yearbook as I don't have that one, it may cover racing from 1971 as the 1973 Motoring Yearbook covers racing in 1972. Otherwise if the 1971 Yearbook covers racing from 1970 then 1971 would not have been covered - confusing I know.
The others they cover the racing of the first year in the title, for example the 1981/82 Yearbook covers the racing of 1981.
Around 1990 the publisher combined the Yearbooks from 1971 - 1979 in two binded volumes (four editions in each) for a reprint. I don't have these but I understand they were copied from the actual books themselves as the original materials were lost.

I have actually asked Australian Muscle Car magazine to see if they could do any article on these books but I had no reply.
It would be nice to know the history behind these publications.
I am missing a few myself and the above is only what I know from my limited experience.
My view is that is that the pick of the bunch of the books I've listed, not because of their rarity or value would be:
1. Australian Touring Championship The 1st 30 Years
2. Australia's Greatest Motor Race - The first 40 Years
3. Ford - The Racing History
4. Holden - The Official Racing History
5. Dick Johnson - The Real Story Of A Folk Hero (Brilliant pics).
6. Peter Brock Story.
7. Allan Moffat Scrapbook.

I'll be glad to finish collecting them so I will have more money for the models.
It all started for me when a mate was moving house and he gave me a few books and that started it all off.
I usally go to the second hand book shops and charity shops like Lifeline and usually have gotten most books for a good price.
Trouble with ebay is that postage adds around $10 to the book price and in my opinion most books, if you take your time, can be found for an average of $20 in bookshops.
Its the motoring specialist bookshops that are very expensive and you'd be crazy to buy books from them unless your desperate.
